In the first semifinal match of the season, Trap fulfilled the Code S tagline of "Renaissance" by defeating Classic 4-3 to advance to the first Code S grand final of his career. Classic—the Code S Season 1 runner-up and Super Tournament 1 champion—had headed into the match as a heavy favorite with a 4-0 all-time series record against Trap, and with TL.net user predictions favoring him by nearly seven to one.
The series initially played out according to popular expectations, with Classic jumping ahead to a 3-1 lead. Only a scrappy comeback victory in game two—where Trap's desperation base-trade caused a disoriented Classic to blow his army advantage—prevented the series from ending in a sweep.
Game four was the low point for Trap, with his sub-two minute GG following a failed Photon Cannon rush putting him down 1-3 and painting him as an outmatched and desperate opponent. However, Trap was able to start his rally from behind in game five, countering Classic's Stargate expansion with a 3-gate Stalker strategy. Similar build orders unfolded in game six, with Trap again able to snowball his early game lead into a victory.
The deciding game seven played out as one of the more conservative sets of the night, with the two players eyeing each other carefully while going up to three bases. When Classic looked to press Trap and force him into a game-deciding fight, Trap patiently waited until Classic over-extended into a disadvantageous position (casters speculated that Classic's mistake of placing his third Nexus one hex away from the mineral line could have caused this rash course of action). Only then did Trap engage Classic in combat, crushing his army and taking the final GG not long after.
"I've always practiced hard as a progamer" said Trap in the post-match interview. "But there were a lot of times when I was hurting inside because it didn't come out [in tournament games]. But because things are going well lately, I feel a lot better and at ease."
Trap advances to face the winner of Hurricane vs Dark in the second semifinal match, which will be played on Saturday, Jun 15 4:00am GMT (GMT+00:00)
Funny games to watch today. I'm feel happy for trap who reach the final but a bit sad for Classic but he's first to kr standing so he'll go to blizzcon no matter what

He'll be qualified for the Global Finals no matter what, but the fact that he couldn't play in IEM Katowice does not bode well for his ability to play in the Finals.
I couldn't be more happy with being wrong. That PvP started looking like everything was coming true and then Trap just comes to his senses after the abysmal cannon rush and makes it a series. I can't wait for the finals^^
I don't see how people keep underestimating Jin-Air players. The guy has sOs as a training partner. That's why his basetrade decision making was so spot on.

he only won that game because Classic messed up big time, no one is underestimating Jin Air players they have all done poorly in this GSL season other than Trap

Trap in game 3 messed up way more than Classic did in game 2. And any progamer would love to have JAGW players as their sparring partner, no matter how atrociously have they performed in this Code S season.
Trap showed amazing resiliency in that series. What a badass for coming back the way he did. I love Classic, but it's great to have fresh blood in the finals. He will definitely show great games in the finals.

Most pros probably have JAGW as practice partners. Most pros seem to play with each other pretty frequently.

It really shouldn't have been. It could have been had Classic not fucked up, but then if you also take away Trap's fuck ups in the first four games, then it definitely isn't a 4-0, especially since Classic's game 2 fuck up came after Trap's.

I wonder if Rogue has been practicing with Hurricane. I imagine the Jin Air team would consider Hurricane to be an easier opponent than Dark even though Trap has done well against Dark in the past. Even if Hurricane loses, the better of a fight he puts up, the more they learn about how Dark views the match up at the moment.
now hurricane ... i know its hard and probable not gonna happen but you need to beat dark
we cant have another zerg in the gsl finals that isnt named sOO please for a glory that is a pvp final you need to beat dark.... even if dark is a far far better player.......

There's a scenario where someone not in top 8 wins GSL Season 3, everyone else in top 8 surpasses Classic in points and Dear manages to tie with Classic so they'll be sharing 8th position. Extremely unlikely to happen but its not 100% locked in and that certainly doesn't help his appeal to the MMA... Time is of the essence and the earliest he can be sure of his spot is if Hurricane loses to Dark on Saturday. If that doesn't happen he needs to qualify for Super Tournament and if that also doesn't work out he needs to not come last in his GSL group.
This is gonna be two villains. Dark vs Jin Air Greenwings. Barring Hurricane pulling a shocking upset. A lot of the fan base really don’t want to see either side win.

I think there's only a handful of 'real' haters out there—Dark and JAG are just easy to root against in a for-fun way, but most ppl respect them at heart.
The true, corrosive hate people hold inside their souls is reserved for Protoss

This is so true it made some of that corrosive hate leak out and hurt me.
Would be great if Dark could finally win a GSL too, he's been a top-tier player for so long that it's a little surprising when I remember he hasn't won one yet.

That is 100% true. I do not hate any group on the planet, except Protoss. There is something infuriating about losing to Protoss that is not there in the other matchups.

It's probably because deep down you know that you are losing to a race which is based on cheating

Its a possibility. You need to keep in mind that soO and Maru are automatically qualified as is the S3 champion. Dear needs 3475 points to tie with Classic (2nd GSL3, 3rd/4th ST2), Stats needs 2850 points (3rd/4th GSL3, 1st/2nd ST2), herO needs 2825 points (3rd/4th GSL3, 1st/2nd ST2), Trap needs 1050 points and Dark needs 825 which can both be done this season. The situation only gets worse if Hurricane beats Dark and/or wins the finals (Hurricane can outright surpass Classic). As much as I don’t want this to be the case, he has yet to ensure he’s qualified for Blizzcon.
I was wrong about him being 100% locked in if Hurricane loses this weekend though. I think the earliest he can be sure is after the Super Tournament qualifiers are over (I somehow completely forgot about the tie with Dear which is why I was worried for Classic in the first place

It is a very low chanche that would require a certain amount of oddly specific results even if Classic would enter a total slump or decide not to compete anymore this year. Anectodally, it has never occurred for the the eight spot in GSL to have more than 6400 points, you shouldn't reasonably worry! I guess you are speaking of Code S season 3 qualifiers?

It is almost impossible for him to not qualify. My main concern is with how the MMA could respond since hes technically not qualified yet. I recall Classic saying the sooner he secures his spot the greater his chances of his trip being approved. Not sure what the situation is now. Really want to see him playing and hopefully winning Blizzcon this year! Super Tournament qualifiers is what I was thinking of (if Hurricane loses to Dark). I think they held them in between the Ro4 and finals last time think so they should be announced fairly soon.

GSL Super Tournament #2 is after GSL season 3, so it will be awhile. (liquipedia says the tournament is September 26th through 29th)
What should be happening soon is info on GSL vs. the World.

Him and soO are so disgustingly deserving of GSL title, it's shocking how they haven't managed to win yet. Maru was in the same position before last year.
On a similar note, if Dark somehow loses on saturday he'll have matched Maru's record for most ro4 finishes in GSL.
Look, you can be a Protoss hater and most of you are I gather; but you have to admit not having arguably the best Protoss in the world at BlizzCon, which Classic very likely is despite last night, would be a massive letdown for everyone who loves StarCraft 2.
