Posted on their official Twitter page - it seems that due to the announcement of Blizzard discontinuing HGC for Heroes of the Storm, Scythe lost out on their major sponsors. All pro players are released to explore other opportunities, while NA non-pros will still be personally supported by Toast, Scythe's manager.

Notable players at the time of disbanding:
(P)Zest
(Z)Cham
(Z)eGGz

I used to play random, but for you I play very specifically.

On a serious note, though, they really need to just put everyone in the same region on a team. One or two teams for NA/LA, one or two teams for EU/West Asia, one or two teams for KR/Pacific, and one team for everyone else / whoever wants to join it. Eight teams max. All these small teams are good in the short term but in the long term, look at what's happened? They disappear mere months or after they started. I wish there was a way to get everyone to band together into a small amount of teams max.

I'm a bit confused about comments above. Not sure what is gonna on.

Anyway, a bit sad that another SC2 team goes under. Best of luck to Zest.

Never seen a meme mod before. noiceee.

P.S. Sad to see Zest without a team but I don't think he will stay teamless for that long.

Unfortunately blizzards decision to kill hots

What do they mean by they killed "hots"? Sorry, haven't really followed the scene that closely as of late.

I'm assuming they meant Heroes of the Storm? Maybe Scythe was primarily a Heroes team and got a majority of their funding through that? Other than that I have no idea.

Damn you, Dominos!!!!

On a more serious note, now I'm sad
I imagine France should be able to take this unless Lilbow is busy practicing for Starcraft III. | KadaverBB is my fairy ban mother.

as an investor, Blizzard esports looks like that crazy kid with the destroy an entire esport ecosystem button when the cause of not meeting their standards is unclear; matchmaking, skins, marketing, online pricing, etc, and then their actions seems to blame their esports domain.

Wouldn't be suprised to see Hearthstone, WoW, and maybe even OWL teams lose sponsors as well. Rightfully so.

Working with investors is incredibly hard. I'm sorry they had to go through this. Hopefully ex-players can still thrive. SC2 is the most fun it has ever been to watch and play imo.

This is unfortunate, seeing the HoTS decisions by Blizzard affect their other games' scenes (albeit quite natural).
Good luck to Zest, Cham and eGGz on finding a new team.

That requires money.

The reason the smaller teams exist is because they are sponsoring only a small number of players and MOST of these esports teams also have sponsored players in other games.

You can't just sponsor every single player in a single region, that requires a ton of funding and organization, you'd need a central body like KeSPA to pull that off and nothing like that exists in the West.

Yeah a big pull from our sponsors was our Heroes team and being in the HGC, so without that going forward in 2019 we weren't able to come to terms on a good deal and they decided to pull out.

It's super unfortunate and demotivating but Toast is a great guy and still wants the team to succeed going forward and is going to keep looking for more opportunities.

CS:GO, LoL, and Dota are all fine. It's just Blizzard games that are struggling.
