Voting had closed! Winners will be officially announced soon.

An epic showdown is set for August 2nd when eight of South Korea's top StarCraft II progamers will face off against eight of the best players from the WCS Circuit in GSL vs. The World 2018. The 2017 edition of the international extravaganza saw Korea uphold its reputation as StarCraft's adopted homeland, with INnoVation leading a Korean sweep of the top four spots.

The legendary INnoVation has slumped since his 2017 triumph but remarkably, it hasn't put a dent in Korea's strength. Maru and Rogue have emerged as twin pillars holding the Korean scene aloft, and together they have claimed several international trophies for their homeland. With Maru and Rogue backed by six battle-hardened veterans, fans of Korean StarCraft will be confident that 2018's GSL vs. The World will end up just like the last. Tune in on August 2-5 through AfreecaTV or Twitch to find out if Korea will maintain its grip over competitive StarCraft II.

You can read up on the TEAM KOREA candidates below and vote for which players will join an already impressive Korean squad.

Team Korea: Fan Vote

As the top four players in the WCS Korea point standings, Maru (조성주), Classic (김도우), Stats (김대엽), and Rogue (이병렬) have earned automatic spots on team Korea. The remaining four? That's up to you.

Click here to vote for Team World members as well!

The highest vote recipient of each race from the TeamLiquid.net fan vote will earn a spot on team Korea. The fourth and final spot will go to the runner-up from the race-specific polls who received the most total votes after the three, first-place finishers. So even if you know your favorite player is unlikely to win their poll outright, your vote might still help them win the wild card spot.

  • You must login with a valid TeamLiquid.net account to vote. You can register here.
  • Voting will close on Tuesday, Jul 17 7:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00).

Team Korea: Terran

Poll: Team Korea: Terran Representative

This poll is closed.

TY (전태양): The king of nailbiters is an excellent choice to represent Korea—or just StarCraft II in general—as all of his games have the potential to turn into an edge-of-your-seat spectacle. TY keeps games thrilling with his blindingly fast multitasking and decisive moves, which have led him to two major international titles.

GuMiho (고병재): With a playstyle as distinctive as any in the game, GuMiho knocks his opponents off balance with unique strategies and reckless offense. Marching to the beat of his own drum, he brings an exciting element of anarchy to any tournament.

INnoVation (이신형): INnoVation is StarCraft II's king of summer, winning the majority of his numerous championships during the summer months. Among those is the GSL vs. The World title from 2017. What would a tournament be without its defending champ?

ByuN (변현우): Few players can match ByuN in terms of sheer aggression and unit control, which were on full display during his championship run at the 2016 Global Finals. He's slowly worked his way back up after a post-BlizzCon slump, and GSL vs. The World could be the tournament where he shows us he's still got what it takes to lift a trophy.

aLive (한이석): aLive's innocent and modest demeanor masks his true nature as one of progaming's most dangerous archetypes: a player that can beat anyone and lose to anyone. He might knock out a world champion, or he might give a foreigner a signature win. Why not roll the dice with aLive?

Bunny (이재선): Playing in a region that's famous for its transcendent Terran players, Bunny has been unfortunately overshadowed. Still, Bunny is a capable strategist and strong online player, and GSL vs. The World could be his chance to show everyone why the 'Korean Terran' brand has its sterling reputation.

Team Korea: Zerg

Poll: Team Korea: Zerg Representative

This poll is closed.

투표하기 위해 계정을 만들고 로그인해주십시오

Dark (박령우): A champion who also has enough hoarded silver to shame the conquistadors of yore―is there a more fitting choice to represent Korean Zergs than Dark? Known primarily for his fantastic late-game play in recent years, GSL vs. The World would let Dark return to his roots as Korea's premier foreigner-killer.

soO (어윤수): An icon of determination and perseverance, soO enters the summer on a rare cold-streak as he seeks to atone for last year's WCS Global Finals defeat. As things stand, soO's chances of returning to BlizzCon are slim … but a return to form at GSL vs. The World could be the spark that makes that dream a reality.

Solar (강민수): Solar is one of Korea's most consistent players, always lurking around the championship picture with a puncher's chance against any opponent. He has won multiple domestic and international titles on the back of his solid mechanics and cerebral approach to the game, and his connection to the international scene gives him a unique edge in global competition.

Impact (김준혁): A champion of countless online tournaments and mid-size live events, Impact is constantly rated below his skill level. Those who have watched Impact at his best know that he's felled more than his fair share of GSL champions with crafty strategies. All he needs now is to bring that form to the biggest stage.

Leenock (이동녕): Leenock was only sixteen years of age when he played in his first and only GSL final back in 2011. A lengthy slump followed a blazing run of championships, but in 2018, Leenock is showing glimmers of his bygone brilliance. A vote for Leenock is a vote in the belief that class is indeed eternal.

Losira (황강호): A survivor in the truest sense, Losira has seen it all since he debuted in the very first GSL back in 2010. He's graced the Code S finals and has played in some of its most epic games. He's constantly adapted his playstyle over the years and the current version of Losira is a ferocious, all-in force.

Team Korea: Protoss

Poll: Team Korea: Protoss Representative

This poll is closed.

투표하기 위해 계정을 만들고 로그인해주십시오

Zest (주성욱): Zest's mark on StarCraft II goes beyond his two GSL Code S championships—he's also one of the most important drivers of Protoss strategy. Though Zest has struggled to recover his peak form as the world's undisputed best in 2014, he's on the right track with a runner-up finish in the previous GSL.

Dear (백동준): It's been a while since Dear was the #1 player in the world back in 2013, but he's still a force to be reckoned with. Victories against Rogue and soO in the previous GSL proved Dear is more than a match for world championship class players, and he should feel right at home in GSL vs. The World.

sOs (김유진): sOs is StarCraft II's eternal, incomparable enigma. In a game where the 'real-time' often trumps 'strategy,' he has won two Global Finals with a genius that borders on madness. sOs injects every match he plays with his mercurial brand of chaos, making it a must-see event.

Trap (조성호): With top 16 finishes in five straight GSL Code S appearances, Trap is one of Korea's looming threats. Capable of giving any player a run for their money, the one-time MLG winner awaits his chance to step out from under the shadow of other Protosses and become a champion again.

herO (김준호): Known for his clinical all-ins and immaculate micro, herO can make even the best players in the world look helpless with one perfect attack. He already has six major championships in the bag, and GSL vs. The World could be lucky number seven for the Smiling Assassin.

Patience (조지현): Winning HomeStory Cup XIV was supposed to be a turning point in Patience's career, but he's still fighting for the recognition he deserves. It's strange that he finds respect so hard to come by—after all, it was him and Rogue who gave Maru the most trouble in the last season of GSL. Maybe bloodying a few noses at GSL vs. The World will do the job.

Don't forget to vote for Team World members!

I see that the vote is being done through TL this year, instead of Bnet. Kind of narrows the voter base, doesn't it? (although that's not necessarily a bad thing) I guess creating a TL account is not exactly hard, to be fair.

Byun, Inno, Dark, soO, Zest, and sOs are all quite popular, so I'd expect three of them to be the winners. Will be interesting to see who ends up with the wildcard spot.

It's the same poll for both Korea and World. I voted for a Terran in the World thread and I can't vote for the others in that thread or any of them in this thread.

Based on WCS Korea standings, the players should be TY, Dark, Zest, and sOs. While that would be a fine result, I'd selfishly prefer INnoVation over Zest because we don't need more Protoss players and Zest is not nearly as distinct from Stats and Classic as sOs.

(T)GuMiho, because you need a Mech God in there.

(Z)Leenock, because Artosis said he was the best zerg currently.

(P)sOs, because cheese, everyone likes cheese.

I approve of this.

Add (T)ByuN in the 4th spot and it's all good.

I can already feel TY not making it through the Terran poll by a huge margin despite being better than Inno or ByuN who will both beat him by like 20%.

INnoVation, enough said.
soO, because I want to see him at BlizzCon. (Also his ZvZ is god-tier which fits in well with the Zerg-dominant west.)
sOs, he simply puts on an amazing show.

Wildcard: Dark, he makes a lot of roaches lol

That resulted in the reigning GSL champion not being in the tournament last year.

All due respect to Gumiho, but he was GSL champion out of pure bracket luck TvT and soO. His absence from GSL vs the World wasn't missed last year and won't be missed this year.

That resulted in the reigning GSL champion not being in the tournament last year.

All due respect to Gumiho, but he was GSL champion out of pure bracket luck TvT and soO. His absence from GSL vs the World wasn't missed last year and won't be missed this year.

Speak for yourself. ByuN won the Terran poll last year, and he was both a worse and less entertaining player than GuMiho at the time. So yeah, I missed GuMiho.

Like I'm gonna miss TY this year.

I didn't say I liked Byun. it was a shame he was voted in last year and a shame he'll probably be there this year.

Personally I'd prefer qualifiers to this popularity poll.

sOs

Buuut given its a popularity contest, I expect INno, soO, Zest, and ByuN will make it.

Yes, very poor OP indeed. Given the note on the top, I'd expect some voting system to pop up after that time. Might be wrong though.

Voted TY, Dark & Trap. As expected, Inno already doubles the votes of 2nd place of the Terran poll. Looking good for both Dark & soO, strong spot to get the wildcard if they don't get in by 1st.

Tough decisions for Team Korea, I'd like to see Byun play more, soO and Dark were close (went with soO), and a good chunk of me wants to see Patience in it as well.

Good thing Stats and Rogue are already in or I wouldn't have been able to decide on a Z or P.

It's worth noting that herO was a god around that time, while recently he's struggled to even qualify for GSL.

This was easy vote

zerg: soo my favorite player ever give him a chance to shine!

protoss: sos. at that one IEM where first place takes all and he proxy gates hero twice in a row for the lulz and wins

terran: gumiho. there from the start he persisted and won a gsl (sadly at soos expense)

the rest of the players were basically faceless koreans to me so didnt care and maru is already in

I wouldn't read too much into that, he always plays much better at weekend tournaments. At the last super tournament he also had an impressive showing.

Voted TY, Dark, and sOs.

TY is far superior to INnoVation at the moment, so it will be shame if the latter makes it over the former. Leave that kind of B.S. to the WCS Circuit scene where the 7th best non-Korean Zerg will make it because of fan boys.

Ty for terran. I think he is right behind maru.

Zest for protoss. Last year we had SoS now its time for Zest. He is solid all year and is 4th in wcs points. Barely not auto seeded, it wouldnt be fair if he wasnt there this time.

For Zerg i say Dark, despite his fail in GSL i still think he is the second best zerg in the world.

Thats my top 3 based on recent performance.

I think they are close. Inno got unlucky he had to play Rogue twice in the ro16 else he would've advanced further. Also he won HSC.
Ideally they both get in

some tough choices, especially when it comes to zerg. with rogue already being in due to wcs points its kinda hard to choose the next best (pls no 2oO jokes thx). leenock with a nice appearance in gsl, soO and solar both had good showings at hsc and performed similar last gsl season together with dark who has also been a strong force throughout the entirety of lotv... at least i wont be disappointed no matter who gets in :D

Don't worry, one misclick will unlikely change the whole picture. Although it sounds weird, but the only mistery left is who will be the fourth player.

I figured it would be close between Inno and Byun, with TY in third, but right now Inno has two and a half laps on Byun, who is trailing TY. Maybe HSC and his GSL group are giving Inno some momentum? He's got the most votes of any player (except Mana), not just Terran.

I also expected Dark to edge out soO, and granted they aren't that far apart, but soO leads right now. I guess HSC also gives some momentum to him.

sOs is the only one I'm not surprised at. Ironic that he of all people is the most predictably popular.

I am surprised by Inno having so many votes. Not only he's boring in interviews, but I find his gameplay boring, too. It all revolts around mid-game pushes, without any interesting builds, tricks, outsmarting, etc. Gumigod and ByuN would be better, as well.

Been wondering which Terran player to choose but in the end went with TY.

Then sOO since he doesn't have a 2nd place finish in Super Tournaments yet and finally sOs (looks solid and needs points to qualify for Blizzcon).

For Terran, my choices in order of strength are: Innovation, Byun, and TY.

Innovation is sleepwalking and his sleepwalk continued at Home Story Cup, where he lost to PartinG, Snute, and Solar. Innovation got schooled by Solar 3-0 in the first series, but managed to win 3-2 in the rematch against Solar. As you can see at Home Story Cup, Innovation is still capable of winning it all. In the list of Terrans, Innovation has the highest skill ceiling but for whatever reason, he seems to be disinterested this year. Still, if we get the Innovation that is playing well (hard to say with him because he is inconsistent this year), he has the potential to win it all.

Byun had a quieter 2017, and this year has been quiet for him too, but I think he still has the potential to win it all if he hits a hot streak.

TY is frustrating. He had a great run in the beginning of 2017. And that's it. I really dislike TY's decision making. He makes questionable decisions and this showed against Zest in the last GSL (TY should watch Maru and examine Maru's decision making against Zest). Having said that, TY is having a better season than Byun this year. But I prefer to go with Byun because he was considered the best player in the world at a point (something that TY has never achieved), and if Byun hits a hot streak, I think he has better championship instincts than TY.

As for Gumiho ... ... win a GSL without relying on TvsT and I can respect his skills more. The one GSL that Gumiho won, the playoff draw worked out for him in that he played multiple TvsT over and over again to get to the finals. I'd like to see him win a premier tournament with significant Korean participation where he needs to beat Zerg and Protoss, rather than relying on a TvsT bracket draw.

For Zerg, it's a tossup between Dark and Soo. Both are equally good. I guess Dark has won the SSL before so he has gotten 1st place in a premier Korean tournament, something that Soo hasn't yet. But you kind of have to feel for Soo too because he has always been a top Zerg but just comes up 2nd in the finals.

For Protoss, Zest and sOs are close. But Zest is streaming on Twitch these days and interacting with fans. And if sOs is getting a salary from Jinair, then I think Zest needs the money more. So I go with Zest.

Somewhat disappointed soO has more votes than Dark since the latter is objectively the better player right now.
But Dark has a good chance of getting 4th so hopefully both make it.

Then sOO since he doesn't have a 2nd place finish in Super Tournaments yet and finally sOs (looks solid and needs points to qualify for Blizzcon).

This doesn't give WCS points

I just want to let the Inno fans know that he played Alive 5 games in a row on ladder and lost 4:1. Keep that in mind when you cast your votes.

Wow looks like Zest is out of the game despite being GSL runner up and 5th on wcs list. Seems quite unfair. So we are gonna see SoS again who i personally think is the weaker player of the two.

Gumiho never played Stats, he played Trap

And while that isn't a terrible run, Gumiho was never a bad group stage player. The fact that his playoff run was TvT + soO, coupled with the fact that Gumiho never got that far in playoffs before or since, leads me to regard his GSL win as a fluke dependent on, well, TvT and soO. After all, there is a reason why peak Gumiho is not spoken of with the same awe as peak INnoVation or peak Maru.

You might say a GSL trophy is a GSL trophy. But guys like Sniper and Roro won GSL too. Not saying Gumiho is as bad as they were, but winning a GSL is not black-and-white.

TY, Maru, and soO all hold records for most losses in those respective rounds. To say he had bracket luck would be an understatement.

As much as I like Gumiho (he is probably the most entertaining terran), it is his only top 4 finish in four years, so calling it a fluke isn't unreasonable.

Both Dark and soO will probably be there as Zerg winner and wildcard. None of the Terrans are anywhere close (Inno grabbing all the votes) and Zest and sOs are still a couple hundred behind.

Looking like the lineup will be Inno, Dark, soO, and either Zest/sOs.

It's been years since sOs had even the slightest claim to that title. The most entertaining SC2 player is in the Terran poll.

He sold at least a part of the dark magic to herO.

Also obviously Zest overtook sOs because of streaming.

sOs suddenly started streaming once Zest surpassed him in votes
Zest, sOs, PartinG, Dark, and Maru are the real champs. ROOT_herO is overrated. Snute, Serral, and Scarlett are the foreigner GOATs

Pretty sure his road to two GSL runner-ups have been entertaining. I love sOs playing. Also I watch crank's vids and apparently zest has been advertising there as well.

Unlike most koreans who just show up for money with no interaction to the fans & community whatsoever,
I want players that at least respect this community of sc2 (in my standards, that is at least trying to show
passion during the interview).

So that's Byun ,Solar, and HerO.
Byun always tries his best to speak english.
Solar is already quite good.
HerO was always full of passion.

Inno, Dark, soO, and Zest are some solid additions to Team Korea

Last year, Korea let one foreigner (Neeb) slip through the individual tournament and one foreigner (Kelazhur) slip through the team tournament, both in mirror matches. Wonder if they'll fix their oversights this year.

Neither is sOs.

There's very few players on any of the lists that have even one of those traits.

This is cheating, people in this forum are mostly foreigners and they will vote weaker Korean player to compete in the tournament.

Yup, that's right, Dark, Innovation, Zest and soO are getting voted in because they're weak, to play incredibly strong foreigners like Kelazhur, Scarlett and Has. It's been a good ride guys, we've been figured out. What a shame. We can unrig the votes now.

Yeah, Inno, Dark, soO, and Zest are gonna get completely rolled by Kelazhur, Scarlett, and Has.

Rolled, I tell you.

I've got Impact, GuMiho and sOs. They have shown crazy builds and insane micro in the past, hoping to see some fun games besides insane macro and standard plays from Maru, Stats, Classic and Rogue.
