MaSa is on fire right now and he is one of the few can stand toe to toe vs Neeb

It's that time of year, tensions running high and Blizzcon spots being locked down.

Though it is rather unfortunate that WCS Montreal has to start at the same time the GSL semifinals are on. With all due respect to the foreign players, a Bo7 between INnoVation and Dark far outshines any show they can put on.

This event doesn't conflict with GSL at all, you might be confused with WESG?
I used to play random, but for you I play very specifically.

To be clear, GSL will be done a few hours before the 2nd day of Montreal starts.

Challenge and Montreal will overlap, though.

I think all 15 people who watch SSL Challenge will manage coping with this fact.

Exaggeration, INno vs Dark isn't a Cure match, it's good enough, but really predictable considering dark s results and plays.

Scarlett is definitely using Zerg for this tournament? Or is that just liquipedia being liquipedia?

I have no clue. She's flipped between Zerg and Protoss a lot, so I think it's possible she flips between the two at DH too. That being said, he zerg seems to be pretty inconsistent, so maybe going for the hail mary surprise protoss could be a good thing.

Scarlett is probably the second biggest storyline of the event, personally- only behind ShoWTimE and his last chance to really salvage his year. Going to be great to see how she does.

We say this, and then it's a 4-0 slaughter...

In the matches I've watched, I've been far more disappointed with KvK matchups than FvF matchups....though that may be because my expectations are higher.

I think it's because Koreans make fewer mistakes. So whomever makes the first significant mistake just loses outright. On the other hand, foreigners make enough mistakes that a single one doesn't spell instant death and so we get more back-and-forth games.

Just my hypothesis.

Agreed, no one should under estimate MaSa especially on Canadian soil.

Frostbite did a nice summary of his year so far:

She's consistently making ro32 in GSL. I feel like she puts up tremendously good games. With her playing Protoss, im really uncertain as to where she will place. A Masters player can take out a GM offracing with a solid timing attack. I feel like her best chance in a foreign tournament is to stick to Zerg.

The only thing I heard about her switch was that her ZvZ is what she isn't confident about. I dont follow her streams or anything so this is purely hearsay. With all the Zerg presence in this tournament, maybe it would be safer to play Protoss. I'd like to see her get at least to the Semi's. Best of luck to her though, Scarlett is definitely fighting hard.

As always, sending a prayer out for Snute.

It is true that they tend to make less mistakes, but I'm thinking about all the onesided matches that I've watched between two top level players. Or the games where they just make an absurd amount of mistakes and it really seems like a foreigner is playing.

It doesn't really disappoint me when two Koreans are in a tight battle so that whoever makes the first mistake loses, as that really only happens in TvT and ZvZ. I think in PvT, PvZ, and TvZ, there's a lot more volatility, and one mistake does not always spell the end (except for doom drops, oracles, adepts..)

For me it's when a high level player (generally Protoss) just plays abysmally versus someone that I think he should have a good chance against and gets like 3-0ed or something. Though, I have also seen T and Z players occasionally demonstrate this versus each other.

I can't believe people are still in the dark ages. These days, if I'm watching starcraft, it's got to be 2-3 streams going at the same time (unless it's GSL-quality) or I get bored and actually want to play the game myelf.

-> Here in North America, most of us have at minimum three monitors with stereo audio. For those who can listen to two people talking at the same time about different subjects but within a limited context, you have no problem watching 2 games at the same time.

And if you don't, you can run two windows of twitch.tv side by side on the same screen. Even 1600x900 will be enough.

Nevermind. I forgot that half of the people using Battle.net client are running on free wifi.

Umm... hate to be that grammar\vocabulary watchdog, but switch volatility with stabilizing factors and you might have a point that actually makes sense. The diagonals of the matchum matrix have more volatility and this serves to preserve the pressure mechanism which maintains diversity (I wrote an aeons-long post about this somewhere when someone was complaining about seeing more of his race than 33% on ladder - I don't remember where that post went) that would persist even if balance were completely skewed.

The logistics are not the issue. It's more that two simultaneous events is cancer when you have to take notes to do recaps. Saturday morning I'll wake up at 5:00 am, recap gsl, recap ssl, recap wcs. A few breaks would be really nice, but I won't get that. Instead I'll be watching two events at once, which makes it exponentially worse .
