TY earned a swift win in game one with a tank push that wiped out GuMiho's cyclone/marine force.
TY looked poised for a win more than once in game two, but GuMiho's counterattacks kept him in it. He was eventually reduced to eleven workers, which forced a desperate push that failed to produce results. With only two games completed, TY found himself a game away from the semifinals.
With both players having weathered cloaked banshees, it was GuMiho who went on the offensive. He kept the pressure on TY with drops and auto turrets before closing things out with a push on TY's third. The first wave put GuMiho 50 supply ahead, the second put him on the scoreboard.
GuMiho remained aggressive on Whirlwind. Constant drops were largely ineffective, but they allowed him to expand faster than his opponent. TY's harassment also did minimal damage as GuMiho's supply lead increased. Having assembled a vastly superior army, GuMiho sieged TY's natural with liberators and tanks, sending the match to a fifth game.
GuMiho opted for mech on Newkirk Precinct. TY did his best to avoid GuMiho’s army and managed to kill multiple bases while keeping four of his own alive while GuMiho attacked. Undeterred by the economic disadvantage, GuMiho built a hellbat/thor based composition that walked across the map and cleaned up TY's tankless bio. Having completed the reverse all-kill, GuMiho became the first player through to the semifinals.
Both players struggled to find damage early in game one of the second match. Maru steadily built a lead, though, which became insurmountable when he won a large fight out on the map. The subsequent push towards ByuN's natural ended the game.
ByuN opened with faster stim in game two. This allowed him to limit Maru's economy by dropping and sieging Maru’s expansions. Maru had enough and went across the map, but ByuN defended while eliminating Maru's production, evening out the series.
Maru dominated on Proxima Station despite his proxy reapers being scouted. He constantly found ways to do damage, whether it was with banshees, drops or sieges. Behind on bases, workers and army, ByuN pushed out, only to lose his army outside Maru's fourth, and conceded.
ByuN's two rax reaper killed three workers, but Maru's banshee more than evened the game. Both players got up to three bases safely, but Maru found a hole in ByuN's defenses with a doom drop. ByuN dove into Maru's third, but Maru had enough sieged tanks back at home to hold the attack easily. Down 90 supply, ByuN was forced to tap out, setting up a semifinal between GuMiho and Maru.
