GuMiho and Stats advance to Ro8 of Code S

Group A featured the defending champion, (P)Stats, resurgent Zerg, (Z)ByuL, (T)GuMiho, still one of the most underrated Terrans in the field, and (P)Trap, the first choice in group nominations and widely considered weakest player in the tournament.

Trap punished Stats’ nexus first with a pylon rush and oracles on Whirlwind. The move set up a lethal void ray/immortal attack off two bases. Stats shifted from phoenixes to blink when he scouted Trap's phoenixes in game two. Trap kept making them, though, killing 16 workers when Stats went to attack. Trap’s immortal count was high enough to close out the match 2-0.

Game one between GuMiho and ByuL came to an abrupt end when Gumiho's bio/tank drop entrenched itself behind ByuL's third. ByuL appeared to have gained control after weathering GuMiho’s three rax reaper and marine pressure in games two. Having rebuffed ByuL’s mutalisk harass, GuMiho simply moved out and steamrolled ByuL’s defenses to take the match.

GuMiho made good use of tank pushes in the winner's match. A pair of sieges on Trap's third on Odyssey and natural on Abyssal Reef were more than enough to overcome Traps twilight based builds. The 2-0 makes GuMiho the first player through to the Ro16 of Season 2.

Game one between Stats and ByuL got off to a slow start until Stats hit ByuL's third with archons while warping in zealots in the Zerg's main. ByuL held the frontal attack, but could not do the same in the heart of his base. Down a game, ByuL went for a baneling bust on Newkirk Precinct. Stats' oracles were essential to the defense. Once he stabilized it was over and ByuL tapped out.

Trap started the final match off with a win on the back of dark templar, but was unable to close the series out. Stats evened things up in a crazy disruptor war which saw both players reduced to one mining base late in the game. Trap had Stats backed into a corner on Frost, but his control failed him in a carrier against carrier fight, enabling Stats to wipe him out and advance to the Ro16 in second place.

Like I said in the group selection thread idk why stats thought it was a good idea to bring a god into his group. Guess it didn't completely backfire

Should be ro8.

Yeah not sure what Stats was thinking in the group selection. Picking a P when PvP is his weakest match-up atm and gumiho, the sos of terran, instead of someone like rogue. Glad it worked out for him.

Well Stats didn't even play Gumiho and I think he would have beaten Gumiho if they had played.

More curious why he picked P when his PvP isn't that good. He almost dropped out because of that.

I don't think I've ever been more disappointed watching ByuL. To be fair, Gumiho came ready to play but I feel that ByuL could've taken that series. Then with his confidence obviously shattered he went for some weird all-in vs Stats that really was so unlike him that I actually shook my head wondering why he would do that. Sad to see my favorite competitor out so early, time to cheer for inno and dark I guess.

ByuL you were the chosen one.....to save my liquibets. But at least Stats came in clutch for the 1/2.

Looking forward to the Group of Death on Saturday.

Same here on both counts. I think ByuL was very favored to make it out. Just not his day.

Haven't really followed SC2 since WoL but it's awesome to see Gumiho still do well
