The risk of losing a few hundred bucks is outweighing all the potential short term gain so much that in fact, it is a wonder why anyone would go there at all. lmao, that was so lame.

I'm not sure that's entirely fair. If you're not sponsored, then you have to pay for flights + hotels, and because avilo rightfully isn't certain that he can make through to the paying stages, at which point he would really only be breaking even, then you have to weigh that versus keeping that money and potentially streaming for those days. I'm not a fan of avilo by any means, but for lower-level GM players who aren't on teams, it is a decent investment to go to a tournament where you might get knocked in the first round, and you have weigh whether it's worth it.

Yeah, a number of people will go to a tournament and not make a monetary profit from it, if you sum it up over the few days the event lasts. However, there are other gains to be had when going to a bigger event, such as for example the marketing aspect. There is the possibility of promoting yourself to a much larger group of starcraft fans, potential sponsors etc that you'd normally wouldn't be able to reach that easily. On top of that, this is one of the top 4 tournaments for foreigners this year. This is where you have to be if you want to be someone in SC2 in 2017, especially if you are living on the same continent. (Just don't fly United ffs!!!) At least that is what I think and hence I thought the excuses for not going were lame. But yeah, if Avilo prefers to stay at home and do his ordinary streaming, then I don't have a problem with that per se. It proves that you can be below the top, not even bother to try to get a placement in a competitive event, and still make a living out of starcraft. And that is pretty nice. ![]() Anyway gl hf either way.

The real reason is he can't blame people at LAN for maphacking and stream sniping. :D On a serious note, finances makes sense, but I'm sure it's also ego and what I said above. Was avilo ever part of a pro team?

Well, they did reform the system by basically cutting 60% of the WCS action, while Korea has practically had non-stop top-level price pool action since the beginning of the year... yeah, I'm salty ![]()
