Yeah, there is huge streaming culture difference. I remember one korean progamer before talked about how he much preferred streaming to koreans as he could just interact and chat with his fans a lot more whereas streaming to foreigners he was kind of expected to just grind game after game. Might have been sea idk.
So, for afreecan streams, vods tend to be better as you can just skip to when games are played if that is what you are more interested in.. It's also super easy to skip to games in vods on afreeca too.

sc2unmasked has pretty decent coverage for ladder by now (even though some are still missing or outright wrong) so even with barcodes it's gotten easier to identify players. Plus now that battle net is bugged and battle tags are shown in-game instead of the character names, eventually we'll get them all

The lag is so bad for me I tried installing the Afreeca plugin, but it only allows you to watch the stream at a higher quality and doesn't help with lag at all.
For Twitch we can use livestreamer - is there an equivalent for Afreeca?

Agreed! Do we (you :D) know who the zerg was?
Well, sc2unmasked lists the person as Curious, but obv. you can't be sure it's actually him playing considering all the account sharing going on in Korean GM and the site isn't always accurate. But it looked believable

Hellbat drops + vikings are awesome to deal with doom drops. Way better than any tool a marine/tank would have.
I play mech without any medivacs ^^
Not many I can get, but no medivacs at all seems kinda bad.
4 are at least mandatory imo. Just to deal with drops/pressuring and winning games. If you crush a doom drop you can basically roll in through is army if you can drop 8+ hellbats.

Playing purely tanks/vikings/hellbats is the defensive/turtle-style kind of mech though, inmy experience, which as an infantry player hate playing against the most

getting medivacs is kind of risky if the opponent is building vikings because if you lose air control you can just lose to liberators. you just need the viking fleet to make sure you maintain air control.

I think herO simply outmanoeuvred the Liberators; speaking of which, does anyone find Liberators harder to use on the new maps? I particularly stopped using the Polt TvP standard build for this very reason. The new maps seem to have more space to move about (particularly VRS) which makes Liberators 10x more cumbersome to use

Yeah I'd say liberators aren't as good on this pool. Even for harass, you can't even harass any of the first 4 bases on Newkirk without being in range of every AA unit ever. (Although Echo and Habitation have some silly liberator spots)

I don't think so, TY was checking herO's build after the Echo game. I think disruptors in PvT is like a flavor of the month type deal in Korea atm. Stats used a lot of disruptor play against Maru in IEM for example.
Granted, I wasn't watching herO's stream at the same time to see how viable a colossus transition would have been with his economy and upgrades and such.

The thing is, regardless of the Probes TY killed, herO had, at least, 6 bases that he could count on to remake them (this is not even accounting for the insane bank herO probably accumulated) He was mining off of the gold base and 2 other mineral bases compared to TY's 3rd and fourth.
This is not even considering how TY can never move out with his main army to completely destroy the bases because herO can simply move in a Warp Prism to tear TY's infrastructure up. Mech is simply unviable in TvP

TY had a turret ring, a prism couldn't warp in new units, only drop out the ones it had inside, which newly produced units can deal with. Mech obviously still only works as a one-of snipe surprise build for people who don't expect it. Protoss has all the answers.

After the game when you can see the MMR maybe it's possible to tell. Without at least that it's 100% guessing.
By the way TY posts updates regarding when he streams on his Afreeca page (http://afreecatv.com/sunstar1994). The last one he posted (from today) reads
내일 방송 시작할게요!! 요즘 일이 좀 많아서 방송키는게 쉽지 않네요.. 내일 저녁에 문제없이 할수있도록 노력할게용!...
Which basically means he will stream tomorrow and that he's been pretty busy recently so it's not easy to find the time to stream.
He really has to stream regularly though if the streaming is something he wants to pursue. At least on twitch (aka the west) streaming every day at the same time is one of the biggest reasons for success.

Thanks for the update! Looking forward to his stream tonight.
Agree that the most successful streamers have a regular schedule. A bit OT but I sometimes wonder if anyone (especially someone who knows English) is helping him out in his post-KT Rolster life. He didn't sign up for Nation Wars and we very seldom see him in online tournaments, even the big ones. It's possible that he's not interested but I personally doubt it - seems more likely that he's intimidated by the language barrier?
Hard to say for sure, i would love to see him in more small stuff (and he probably would have made Nationwars tbh) but at the same time we don't really know what he is up to. His stream is rather late in the day so i guess he really is busy
I like how this account in GM TY is streaming on has almost 300 less MMR than the other account TY showed on stream the other day (which might have been an accident because he queued a game but then immediately logged out before he got one) but that one is in Masters.

Agreed. I never got the hate for it.
I would have less of a problem with this if the first 10 minutes of TvT weren't a complete mess. You don't wanna die to reapers, so you better make at least one reaper. Better make cyclones because those are strong too. Don't wanna die to banshees so make a raven. Oh wait, auto turrets 2-shot SCVs so make two ravens instead. But wait, need air control in case they try to drop your main or contain you, better reactor out vikings. Holy crap vikings kill all mech units.
All day long he does these stupid builds with no success and suddenly Protoss players start all-inning into his complete turtle defense setups he uses to get out the BCs.

It's just that certain things seem to be very strong which probably shouldn't be. Like reaper cheese, early cyclone builds, etc If the game gets to the stage where both players try to get positional advantages i like it a lot as well, even though doomdrops are still silly (medivacs...)

TY seems like he's got sky Terran vs Zerg figured out. He beat soO and Dark with it on stream today. Even though you'd think it's a troll build.
I didn't think I'd ever have to say this but TY needs to work on his TvT, in his last 2 streams he lost like 3 games against INnoVation because he was over-aggressive when he didn't have to be. And every time he goes mech in TvT he gets crushed.
Also that song that goes "You are my giiirlfriend~" is the worst thing I've ever heard.

You know I'm still not sure if he's serious with this and experimenting to see if it ends up viable or just trolling people on ladder with the TvP Sky Terran. Because usually with how well his openings go if he just goes into regular bio he'd win. I've seen him beat a bunch of top Toss players with bio but not with this.
He just beat Inno after a pretty serious losing streak against him and fist pumped on stream. He was pretty happy about that one.
The game was really bad though. You know, early game TvT snowballed and after a traitor widow mine killed half of Inno's SCVs it was over in like 4 minutes.

I mean, I was hoping that some semblance of WoL's positional play would return, but instead, we got HotS at it's most cancerous. It's not only the consecutive mass doom drops (INnoVation sure loves those), but it's also the absurdity of the early game as well - in HotS TvT, yes, dying in the early game was fairly common, too, but that element has been magnified manifold in LotV. Ravens with autoturrets that 2-shot SCVs?

It's really completely absurd. You mess up against any unit in the early game, be it reapers, cyclones, ravens or banshees, and you have practically no comeback potential. I mean for god's sake you used to make 1 raven for banshee defense, now you make 2 so you can drop auto turrets in two mineral lines at the same time.
And as you said that's still beside the fact that most of the time it just turns out that simply dropping more and more units in your opponent's main, even if they defend decently, is actually the right move. Being the aggressor in TvT is just too rewarding.
Wow, I am actually starting to think his Ravens-Battlecruisers-Liberators build in TvZ might actually be viable. The thing is, this map pool might be exaggerating how good it actually is since mech turtling is very strong now on these maps

Tbh mech turtling is pretty bad (read: it's hard to get and keep the bases you need) on Whirlwind but I saw him beat Dark on that map in one of his streams with his Sky Terran. I guess we'll have to see how good it is on the next pool, but it's legit on this one - against my expectations.

Makes a lot of sense, big money to win there and it's not like he could make anywhere near as much streaming. When is he streaming btw? Always seem to miss his streams (rather early korean time?)

Usually he starts between 6 and 8 PM KST and goes several hours from then. It's a shame he no longer keeps VODs, otherwise I'd have directed you to him beating Stats with battlecruisers (Stats didn't save the VOD either ).

So i asked if it is allowed to make stream threads for everybody, the answer was that it could be done under "user streams" Not perfect by any means but i guess it is decent enough?!

Afreeca has enabled an english area and usually the streams don't lag for europeans. You have access to the english chat (usually less than 10 people, even on TY, Flash,...).

Wait i missed it, is he playing on na now?
Nah, he was still playing on KR with his TYTY tournament account.
(Vaisravana is a Japanese pro)
Oh i see. Now he is gone again :/ Probably wants to watch csgo
Does Korea even have a CS:GO scene that would draw in people?
Not really no. There are a few teams but not much to talk about tbh. Which is a shame because i think the quality of play could go up quite a bit with kespa involvement (but maybe that's the korean elitist side of me talking :D)

I guess he takes competition very seriously still, only way to not give opponents useful info
Hilariously they immediately ran into each other on ladder afterwards even though TY uses an account with over 1000 less MMR than the one soO is on. soO got +2 MMR from winning with a nydus
Can someone explain what's going on on TY's stream right now? o.O Who's the guy he's with and why are they being filmed walking around and visiting attractions?
Tuned in for the first time and saw TY going around the city with some other guys. Kinda disappointed not to see Starcraft, but I'm glad he seems to be enjoying himself. Guess he's earned it (literally).
Is it feasible for him to do like, regular, short, occasional BW streams? I'm sure if he just plays a few hours each week in total, it won't eat into his SC2 competing too much, but it would probably be a nice source of additional balloons. Big problem is that BW is much harder on the wrists, so 1h of BW might have to trade off for like, 1.5h of SC2 practice. But TY seems also to know not to play too hard in practice on stream, so maybe it'll all be okay. I hope he does what's best for him

up to him man. He might do it again considering he got a lot of viewers. And he's really good. He might get an ASL if he wants to lol
Damn, it's my wet dream to watch how TY can handle BW after so many years of SC2. HIs micro, multitasking and game sense must be godlike although mechanics, strategy and decision making must be behind compared to BW pros.

He was just under 2k mmr, and probably doesn't play it often. Probably just did it for a break after GSL. But, it's probably a sign of what he'll do in retirement.
TY was peaking at 460 APM and destroyed Larva at first game, the current 4th place ASL and one of the best zergs. I rarely remember any terran being this fast. If he comes back to BW I'm certain he's gonna destroy everyone except FlaSh.
His MMR is 2400+ MMR and he's higher on ladder than SoulKey.
By the way, I've seen first time in my life how a terran irradiated his own useless empty dropship to use "eraser" trick to kill drones so he won't throw away his vessel to get hit by scourges.
Don't be surprised by TY streaming BW. I expect that eventually TY, Classic, SoO, Stats, and INnoVation will all end up back playing & streaming BW either casually or full-time.
Hell right now as I type this I'm watching Stats doing BW content on his stream as well

Since he switched back to Afreeca stream he's rarely over 100 when streaming SC2 though. So not sure about that.
I wonder if all the SC2 stars streaming BW is because of blizzard's recent announcement.

not really, his SC2 viewership in Afreeca rarely gets past 100 while he gets 1.7k in BW on a good day (specially if he is playing against another streamer like Larva)

You and Samir are definitely right, he's back at 500. Korea time was just bad for viewers when I posted that, I guess.

It makes sense for AfreecaTV's players to stream BW since there are very few non korean viewers on Afreeca anyway. Have you seen players from other teams streaming BW instead of Sc2?

Edit: He is up against stats right now! <3
Oh man, watching Stats vs TY in BWV on two separate screens, the life <3 thanks for the heads up!
One imagines this MU being a throwback to like, 2007 or something for them, in the KT practice house
Edit: Oh wait, I'm dumb, BaBy played for FOX, not KT in BW haha. Oh well
On November 17 2020 09:05 RKC wrote: So who won the BW legends match - TY or Stats?
TY won the game I watched. I caught something about stats saying 7 o'clock, so I think he meant he was missing gateways at his outside expos. TY won with a standard 3 base mech pushout and stats couldn't break even with like 5k/3k bank because all his gates were in his main.
TY sitting in with FlaSh on FlaSh's stream... BaBy come-back in BW confirmed? Will be interesting to see, if he tries to qualify for the next season of ASL

yeah, they are teammates in BJ Destruction League so they might be practicing together.
I think TY might be able to qualify for ASL tbh, would be quite funny, casting sc2, winning gsls, qualifying for asl. Maybe some lol career at the side as well?
TY: "remember serral FlaSh: yea, a foreigner? TY: he's the best nowadays, something of a genius FlaSh: yea, remember used to not consider foreign pros a serious compeition TY: he's someone Korean pros all fear nowdays.
Damnit, why does the stream gets even more epic when I'm too busy to watch! Do the pros notify in their channel of guest stars in advance? If so, would be good to have a thread which keep tracks of upcoming interesting event on streams...
Also, why do I get even more hyped about this random fun stuff than the actual competitions (both GSL and ASL)? Is it just me, or do others feel the same way? I'm guessing the latter, which is why streaming is such a big business for BW pros...
TY's is just wrecking left and right BW pros and he only started playing like 2 weeks? It's good and sad at the same time because this must be signaling he's going to retire from SC2 shortly. My only wish was him to win a Blizzcon, and damn he's numer 1 spot when there isn't going to be any of them anymore
