These matches would decide the player who takes the seed from Jaedong.

Again, this has nothing to do with Starcraft and everything to do with the incredible hassle of working with China - let's not forget how long the delays are in live international tournaments held in non-Korean parts of Asia. Gamescom will absolutely have players apply for the full-sized Open Bracket and get denied.
BTW, if anyone's wondering, Seed didn't get his visa and Alicia has been temporarily stranded in another part of China because of flight issues. That's why they're not there.

No players are choosing any groups. It will be random draw, as always. Cyan was never told anything of the sort.

PartinG is so lucky... Group A is actually interesting. Losira should take 1st and all 3 Terrans are pretty good at TvT

Well at least it's still 1 matchup .
The ultimate zvp test is upon you Snute!

WTF? Group A and B are ridiculous and C and D are free wins for herO and PartinG? Seems like black magic.

So, why weren't there any Chinese players in the open brackets? This is just weird.

Because making a international tournament happen in China, either by bigger foreign companys or by chinese ones, is a pain in the ass. I remember what B2W told from their trip to the WCA (or was it WEC ? i dont remember the 3 letters, lol), where there was a hugh convention center for all tournaments, a hugh area for players, everything was giant (even the money, highest prizepool in WC3 history for example) and still, Internet gone down, poweroutage, VISA trouble.
And then things happen, like no chinese players come to the open brackets, top athlets cannot get into the country, flights delayed heavily, more poweroutage.
Last year at least the open bracket wasnt such kind of farce, but still they had over 3 hours of delay due to having no power. 3 hours!

and we now see why letting RNG decide your groups without at least attempting to seed is a bad idea.

Each group has 1 invited/wild card player, 2 qualified player and 1 from the first stage (well, normally. shit went a bit differently apparently) I don't see how you could seed those in a better way.
