After a a year and a half since joining Axiom, we are sad to announce JunHyuk “Impact” Kim has left Axiom eSports.
Impact, who joined Axiom in October 2013, has chosen to not renew his contract with Axiom in order to seek new opportunities. During his time with Axiom he proved himself a formidable Zerg, both at offline and online events. Just months after joining, the rookie turned heads and took center spotlight at DreamHack Open: Bucharest where he earned 2nd place. Online, Impact continues to be an ambitious contender in many online tournaments such as OlimoLeague and Leifeng Cup since their inception.
The Axiom team house, the place Impact called home during his time on Axiom, and it’s inhabitants are also disappointed to see him leave. “Now we’ll have to divide his chores amongst us. I’ll have to start using less dishes,” stated one team member who wished to remain anonymous, should his or her statements cause the other team members to use an excessive amount of silverware during his or her assigned chore day.
Joking aside, regardless of where Impact may go, Axiom eSports was proud to have him as a part of our team.
"Our time with Impact has been a memorable one,” said team owner TotalBiscuit. “I remember cheering as he achieved the dream he set out to accomplish in the State of Play documentary, defeating his idol Jaedong. I remember watching his streaks in teamleagues and excellent performances, as well as the bad times, when he seemed rough around the edges. Part of being a team owner is sticking by your players through wins and losses, streaks and slumps, giving your players a chance to grow and overcome their obstacles, rather than drop them at the first sign of trouble. I'm proud of what Impact has accomplished while on Axiom and I'm in full support of his decision to seek opportunities in a different kind of training environment. I hope to see him become a champion some day and while I'm sad that while he came close, we couldn't help him achieve that goal while on Axiom, he is a talented player with plenty more years of competition left in him and I hope that he will thrive on whatever team he ends up on. Thanks for all your hard work Impact and thanks for being a member of our family. Best of luck with everything you do in future.”
Impact provided some final parting words to the Axiom community:
“I learned a lot from Axiom during my stay. I will always cheer for Axiom even if I am not there. Please cheer for me as well. Thank you very much for the past year and a half!”
Wow, this is quite unexpected to me. Can't even imagine seeing Impact in game without Axiom tag, or reading TB comments about him "playing like crap" when he does something stupid.
Good luck Impact, hopefully you will be joining another team soon. Axiom needs a good Zerg now, I wonder if they will sign anybody.
Really surprising. I'm not quite sure what seeking new opportunities means in this context. Maybe he wants to play in Proleague? That's the only thing I can think of. Best of luck to Impact and Axiom.

That is the official reason. He was out of contract, requested to leave to pursue other opportunities, so we let him, simple as that.

pretty sure time and effort commitment wise it would take too much and tie their hands too much

Perhaps, but playing in proleague is a big draw for a lot of players as we've seen recently

Considering that the changes to WCS have made Korea an impossibly competitive place which has already resulted in multiple retirements, I think assuming there is another season of Proleague it is very likely that we'll be part of it, if only because there is no other way to get exposure in Korea now unless you are the best of the best (and get a good draw in Code A)

No that was a long time ago when KeSPA were charging entry fees for Proleague. Afaik that practice has now ceased. With the way Prime is going, it looks like they're gonna need an 8th team for next season if they keep dropping players.

maybe he felt his results were stagnating and wanted to try a change of environment to see if he could perform better? or it could be that he just wants to see what's out there
Only the second time Olivia's had to write a goodbye. Axiom has always felt like Liquid - you leave on your terms, never theirs. Axiom back to a 4-man/2-race roster is kind of sad. Best of luck to him in whichever one scoops him up - I'm betting original 5, since he came from the old Kespa in the first place.

Eyy TB, i know you've explained why proleague isn't in your team's interest in the past, so I'm not sure how you're going to make it work if you enter proleague, but that would be bloody awesome.
edit: had impact stayed, your proleague lineup would have looked solid as is, no doubt crank can coach
Hmmm, interesting that he would leave, given that Axiom seems very secure and very good salary-wise and house-wise. He has big dreams in Korea I guess. Good luck to him! Maybe Axiom can pick up another strong zerg (I'm looking at you, DRG).

Shame about losing Impact, but he didn't make a huge ... mark on the competitive scene. Perhaps he could have done a lot more if there were more foreign events since he did do quite well in those.

Luckily, this is some of the best news around SC2 that I've heard in awhile. Are there plans to bolster the roster to get ready for proleague or is the plan to combine with someone else?
hmm dont know what to think about it... on the one hand he is a player who could make it into a top proleague team but on the other hand if not we probably wont see him at all (except korean online tournaments)

As much as I like both DRG and Team Axiom, it seems impossible. When DRG left Invasion, he made a clear statement that what he's looking for is Kespa.
"Today I think the best solution for me is to play the proleague in a high level structure to get back the level I had and only the Kespa can provide this."
This news makes me a little sad, I loved seeing Impact break out from being a KeSPA b-teamer into a cracking player, he might not have won any tournaments but I don't think anyone can deny he's improved a lot. I just hope he's made a good decision and finds a new home soon.

Surprised by this tbh. GL to Impact, he has the potential to succeed and I hope he will. GL to Axiom as well, Impact was a very good addition to the team.

I kinda agree here. I think the only place that would allow him to develop his skills better than Axiom would probably be one of the historical KeSPA teams (CJ.Impact pls^^), but would he get decent playtime in these teams? SKT is pretty much closed with Dark and soO, KT has Life and there's little reason to deviate from the Life/Zest/Stats/[insert B-teamer here] quartet, JinAir is pretty stacked as well... I guess CJ and Khan could be fitting homes?

CJ and Samsung would be nice for him for sure. I'd prefer to see him on Samsung over CJ though, I feel he'd get more opportunities with Samsung. Stork likes to give B-Teamers time in PL. CJ not so much.

The ignorance of the vocal SC2 community is not a surprise after 5 years. I'm just thankful its only the vocal minority, otherwise many of us would have left this game by now in frustration.
Is alicia back full time? Does Axiom-TCM have enough players for Clan Wars? I personally like that series way more than Proleague, love the spoiler free VODs and fresh approach, taking game for what it is, source of much fun, hope Axiom won´t be met with problems because of this . Also, this is just little curiosity on my side, Soulkey, who reinforced Axiom in Clan Wars, is zerg. Was it known in advance that Impact could leave and another zerg may be needed to strengthen Axiom?

Alicia is back full time now, he recently placed second in Olimoleague, he's back to full practice schedule.
As for the Soulkey thing no, we partnered prior to knowing Impacts desire to pursue a spot on a KeSPA team.

Good to hear that Clan Wars line-up is still ready to roll and even thou down to only one zerg, that one zerg being Soulkey makes sure other teams can´t just skip part of their preparation. I wish good luck to all of you .

Evidently not because he chickened out instead of winning that map the first time

Another day, another forumposter getting offended over nothing.
"Other opportunities" means looking for another team. I thought that was obvious, I guess not.
You are right on one thing though, some SC2 fans are a nuisance, because they get offended over nothing and start fights with people for no apparent reason. We are in no position to speak for a player who is not on our team anymore. If you want a more indepth answer as to why he left, ask him yourself, it would be astonishingly unprofessional for us to speak for him now that we no longer manage him. We have absolutely no right to do that anymore, we are not his spokesman. If we start speaking for players that have now left our team, we will very quickly find ourselves in a position where players dont want anything to do with us.

Acer do not pay to house MMA. We house MMA because we were grateful for when MMA housed CranK, Heart and Ryung after SlayerS disbanded and they had nowhere else to go.
Wow these are the first news I hear about Axiom's interest in joining PL, it would be great to have a strong team to actually challenge the sk duo + cj + jagw supremacy

A good move for him. Joining a Kespa team will be a massive step up in training regime, practice partners. Joining a truly professional organisation will be a real kick.
He will probably have to keep the bench warm for a few seasons but i'm sure he will be a useful practice partner for the guys seeing proleague time.
Don't really know if Axiom will pick anyone else up. Maybe an older korean player who is struggling to make it.
On the Proleague topic, it would be cool if u joined with another team, but something really sick would be an Axiom Teamhouse team. Axiom + MMA + True and Patience would be amazing.

It seems straightforward that Impact was poached and it is, of course, professional etiquette not to pre-empt a team's formal announcement. Since half of TB's life is having people who don't know what they're talking about pester him, I think it's entirely reasonable for him to be rather peeved in this matter. I have no doubt I would be as well in his position.
Incidentally, for whoever asked why MMA isn't part of Axiom, TB talked about that way back on Climbing the Ladder - MMA demanded to be paid the amount he was worth, and they could only afford that if they were to pass up on signing Alicia and Heart, and subsequently abandon their goals of joining the GSTL, which was a priority for the players.

pretty sure time and effort commitment wise it would take too much and tie their hands too much
Considering that the changes to WCS have made Korea an impossibly competitive place which has already resulted in multiple retirements, I think assuming there is another season of Proleague it is very likely that we'll be part of it, if only because there is no other way to get exposure in Korea now unless you are the best of the best (and get a good draw in Code A)
That Ryung/Dark draw though... Sad. Was hoping he'd get a TvT and show us the glorious RYUNG-tank-marine of old.

Anyway, sad to see Impact leave Axiom. I hope he lands somewhere safely soon and that Axiom is able to fill the vacant spot with a good fit for the team, maybe with an up and comer who would benefit from a stable team.

That is the official reason. He was out of contract, requested to leave to pursue other opportunities, so we let him, simple as that.
I am a little disappointed that someone who has always been a great "anti-bullshit" exception to bland "correct and official statements" is insisting on this "official reason". C'mon, you know better than "other opportunities".
What's he supposed to say? Impact is not our player anymore, we can't speak for him. He told us he is looking for new opportunities, that's all we can really say. It's not our place to speak for Impact, if Impact wants to tell you what he wants to do, then he can do so.
He could, you know, tell his opinion. We all know that TB is very good at having one
Or arrange with Impact to provide a more direct answer, I don't know, just something a little less standartized. I am really saying that only because TB is one of the few people where I really expect anything better - his usual honesty and openess is really great.
Or y'know, that could actually be the reason instead of there being some bullshit conspiracy involved.

Also that. Professionalism comes before forumusers desires for dirt.
What the fuck, man? Where the hell I was talking about some conspiracy or dirt? Why do you have to instantly have to jump on everyone's throat?
I was genuinely interested about why he left. Axiom has on of the best references as to player conditions, so I wonder what are the interesting opportunities for Impact. Are there any hints as for where are we going to see him next? I don't believe that you can't appreciate how uninformative a phrase "other opportunities" is.
I really don't understand what you want. When people don't give a shit about SC2, you complain that they are ignorant, when people are interested too much, you complain that they should shut up. Sometimes I feel like the fans of SC2 are just one big nuisance to you and you would be much happier if you could run your team and your events for zero viewers. Almost like a public transportation company (our operations are great, but the passengers keep messing us up).
Another day, another forumposter getting offended over nothing.
