It has been a pretty long time since I did the last interview for this series, but I'm finally back with a bit more time and yea, here we go! To get some more balance into the interview series, I talked to a great Terran player for you - I am of course talking about [image loading] Mun 'MMA' Seong Won from Team Acer!

Behind The Nickname #6: Mun 'MMA' Seong Won.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: To begin the interview, please tell us how you live in at the moment.

[image loading] MMA: There aren’t any leagues for a while so I just plan on resting for a bit while waiting for LotV beta to come out, and then I’ll play LotV once it’s out.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: You have been living quite some time in Germany. Can you please give us 5 things that you like and 5 things you find weird about Germany (or foreign countries in general)?

[image loading] MMA: In many ways, I experienced various kinds of cultures so I think it was a good experience. There were times when living alone was lonely and difficult but now that I think about it, it was all a part of the experience and part of the past ^^. I really hated riding on airplanes~ It was so difficult because my ears kept hurting.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: How do you feel about living in Korea again? Do you like it?

[image loading] MMA: I really like it ~ But there are times when I miss Germany too. If I get the chance to, then I’d like to go back one more time.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: Sometimes one has to take a break from work. What do you do when you have a day off? Who do you spend it with?

[image loading] MMA: On days that I have off, I normally stay at home, and I play soccer on the weekends~

[image loading] TrAiDoS: With all the money you have earned over the years as a pro-gamer. How do you spend it? Do you save something for later? What was the most expensive thing you have ever bought?

[image loading] MMA: I’ve been saving up most of my progamer money. I do spend some from time to time for myself. As for the most expensive thing I ever bought… I would say that was when I bought a watch for my older brother as his graduation present.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: Now I want to know more about MMA as a person.

Normally, most people only see you on stream at tournaments, but how is MMA off stream? How would you describe yourself? What does no one knows about you yet?

[image loading] MMA: Normally, when I’m on camera, people see me with a whole bunch of weight on my shoulders, so I think that a lot of people see me as non-energetic and blunt. But if you get to actually meet me and get to know me, I’m a completely different person~. I’m the exact opposite.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: If you had to stop playing as a pro-gamer right now. What other job would you do?

[image loading] MMA: I would have to go to the army…

[image loading] TrAiDoS: What is the most positive and the most negative experience you have made as a pro-gamer so far?

[image loading] MMA: Most positive experience would have to be winning a championship on the finals stage. Most negative experience would have to be grabbing second place on the finals stage.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: How does your pro-gaming life influence or influenced you as a person? What are important things you have learned over the years about life?

[image loading] MMA: It changed everything. I was just a nobody, but after I became a SC2 progamer, as I made results, people all around the world started to know who I was, I experienced excitement, and then from then on, I took the pride I achieved and was able to do my very best.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: Is there anything you believe in, like god or karma or are you superstitious?

[image loading] MMA: I’m a Christian so I believe in God~

[image loading] TrAiDoS: If you had a time machine and you could go to every time and place on earth you want. Where would you go and why? What would you do there?

[image loading] MMA: Mmm… I would want to go back to my innocent elementary school days and play soccer that I like ^^

[image loading] TrAiDoS: What's your bad quality?

[image loading] MMA: I’m sure there’s a lot? For now… In my opinion… My memory is really bad…

[image loading] TrAiDoS: Besides StarCraft II, what are you interested in?

[image loading] MMA: I have a lot of interest in soccer. I also love soccer games. FIFA Online 3, Winning Eleven, and I like all the FIFA games.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: The next part of the interview will be more MMA as a pro-gamer and StarCraft II related. Lets go!

How did you choose the name MMA and when was it?

[image loading] MMA: I did MMA as a sport back in high school. I had so much fun back then that I made the ID MMA because of that.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: When and how did you come up with the idea of being a pro-gamer?

[image loading] MMA: I’ve had thoughts before about being a progamer, but I would always have doubts as to whether or not I could really do it. During those times of doubts, coach Ryu Won, who is now on KT, told me that I had talent and the dexterity to succeed. I think that’s when I started preparing really hard to become a progamer.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: When you started playing as a pro-gamer, what was your goal and what is your goal now?

[image loading] MMA: When I first started off, my goal was to become a progamer who had the power within eSports to bring the world together into one place. My goals now are to win championships.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: Take us through a day in the life of MMA, please.

[image loading] MMA: Wake up, wash up, eat, practice, eat, take a small break, practice, sleep, repeat.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: Is there anything you dislike or even hate about being a pro-gamer? If so, what is it?

[image loading] MMA: Even when you have freedom it’s not actually freedom! Even when you want to rest, you can’t do it in a comfortable fashion (because your hands will get stiff).

[image loading] TrAiDoS: What is/are your goal(s) for this year of StarCraft II? Will you go to foreign events again and try to get points for a spot for BlizzCon?

[image loading] MMA: Of course my goal for this year also is to get into BlizzCon. I want to become the kind of player that can advantageously and constantly make into BlizzCon in the past 11 years during my active progaming career.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: If you have a look at the results between korean and foreign players: What do you think foreign pro-gamers or the foreign scene have to work on to close the gap between korean players or scene?

[image loading] MMA: I think they’ll close the gap if they live the progaming life style in team houses just like Korean players do. The amount of games you play is important and all but I think communication is the real answer.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: Since the last patch big patch, people are not really talking about balance that much anymore. What is your opinion on the current balance? Is there anything you think should be changed?

[image loading] MMA: For HotS, balance wies, I don’t think there’s really anything left to touch on.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: What do you think about the WCS changes, do you like the current system? Why?

[image loading] MMA: Hmm, I can’t really comment on this. I don’t really think about the WCS format.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: What kind of changes would you like to see in Legacy of the Void?

[image loading] MMA: I haven’t tried it yet so I don’t really know, but I am hoping for a lot of new Terran units.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: (Several days after the beta was released, we asked MMA about LotV again) You have played some LotV in the past few days. How do you like it so far? What is good and what is bad about it?

[image loading] MMA: For Terran, the way it is right now, aside from the Cyclone, I don’t see anything else that can really be used in actual games. Zerg and Protoss on the other hand, received various kinds of new units that are fun to use, and I think they’ll be able to come up with a lot of new strategies. But for Terran, I still think we need more development.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: Puh, serious questions, huh? Well, let's have some fun now!

What is your best pick up line? What is your worst pick up line?

[image loading] MMA: I have no idea what you mean by a pickup line. I don’t really understand this question ㅠㅠ

So we went ahead and translated it in a different way.

[image loading] MMA: Kkkk when it comes to women, I think you have to treat them sincerely. Then great love can be achieved.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: How would you title that picture and what was going through your mind at this specific moment?

[image loading] MMA:I’m pretty sure I was thinking something along the lines of: Huh? I won this? I was able to win this?

[image loading] TrAiDoS: Imagine you are a clown and you are at a birthday party of a 7 year old girl. You are standing in front of her and her 5 other crying friends. Your job is to make them laugh, but all you have available is: a Poker chip, a funny balloon (which is not funny at all) and a rubiks cube baked into jello. What would you do?

[image loading] MMA: If the children are crying then there are no answers.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: If you had to fire 1 of your team members, who would it be and why?

[image loading] MMA: By fire you mean get rid of? From Team Acer…??

Okay, then I’ll pick (Z)Nerchio because he’s famous for his BM hehe.

[image loading] TrAiDoS: Thank you very much for the nice interview. :-)

Huge thanks to [image loading] MMA for doing this interview. Make sure to follow him on Twitter @AcerMMA.

Big thanks as well to Seeker for helping me out with the translations. Give him a Follow, he is @TL_Seeker.

And he said that he would go to the army if he were to stop being a pro gamer, wasn't he discharged from the army because of his knee or something?

The most expensive thing he bought was a watch for his brother, haha. Seems like a down to earth guy. Thx for the interview.

There is nothing wrong with someone being happy that another is a Christian....it is fine if you are not a believer of Christianity or other religions, doesn't mean you have to show negativity towards others who are, it is unnecessary.

Thanks for sharing this, MMA is a boss and it is cool to hear about how he enjoys Soccer and FIFA games so much. Maybe one day he will play in the World Cup for Korea? :-D

Let's not kid ourselves. MMA is 26. Too late for a professional career. The only FIFA World Cups he might make a career in are virtual ones :S.

This was a nice interview. While the answers weren't as elaborate as one could've hoped - progamers just don't like to talk... - there were a few new tidbits of information.

"If the children are crying then there are no answers" was a really funny comment, too.

holy cow, now this is an interview!!
I'm so proud of you, all the questions were legit and interesting!!
I actually learned some things about MMA through this, such that he loves jebus and soccer and watches.
Keep up the good work, I hope you will do more for other pro-gamers.

It really depends who you're talking too. If you have a look at the Harstem or Dayshi interview, you'll see that there are a pretty cool answers. :-) Most of the time it's cool to got unexpected answers.

Some people would say that religion is an individual matter, as opposed to a "person X is Y??? that's another reason to be a Y!!!". That poster might have had this kind of an opinion.
Don't ask me though, I know nothing about religion XD

Ofc you can judge anyone by their religious belief. It tells a lot about the person. Nonetheless, this topic should not be the pivotal point of SC2 thread. ...

Good interview, thanks.

People can believe what they want I'm not fussed, it's just when someone uses a religion to justify why they like someone I find it degrading on the person and their other accomplishments. It's a differing view between the US and EU it seems since everyone who commented on what I said was from the US.

If the children are crying there are no answers is the best response by far.

It's a differing view between the US and EU it seems since everyone who commented on what I said was from the US.

If the children are crying there are no answers is the best response by far.

I like players more just because they are Zerg...does that make me a terrible person?? :-x

Fascists. Kim Jong. Mensgk. etc.

Free speech is awesome. Don't take it for granted. Unless your job is on the line, and it's not worth a turd.

I still like MMA as a player and an entertainer. =D

why?

People invest many things into something that is likely to be true as me being the son of ten gods, because 5 million people believe in it.
