Taeja shouls not be in the list... but hey, this is TL !
Why should Polt be on the list but not TaeJa? Good question... Perhaps both of them should not be in the list, according to their results in tier-1 tornaments. I just feel they will be there. I Think TaeJa,Polt ,and MMA should have a spot in the top 10. Such consistency over such a long period of time should count for something, it's not like everyone who made GSL ro4 (which is something all of them did :D) can just go and dominate foreign tournaments for so long.

Amazing! Thanks for this.

No way, Polt and Taeja could make the top 10 purely by longevity. Not to mention, Taeja has a wrist condition and Polt has to balance sc2 and his life as a student.
Taeja's tier-1 results aren't bad at all, not even with regards to GSL. He's had 4 ro8+ finishes in code S despite never winning and in each of those 4 runs he was knocked out by either a finalist or the eventual champ (Squirtle, MC, Life, and RorO). That might not sound like much, but it's actually more than Zest has done it and equivalent to Rain.
Polt pretty much only won the Super Tounament back in 2011 and made a ro4 in Korea but he has a multitude of tier-2 wins and some solid tier-1 placings abroad.

I'll buy you 3 months of TL+ if you guess right, 6 if you get the order right Dylan, Dylan, Dylan, Dylan, Dylan and Dylan
ALso, is flash going to be #1 since you said "greatest of all time" and not SC2 in the title?

#1 Is MVP #2 is Life
Those are the only for sures for me. Everything else is debateable.

Top 5 includes some variation of IMMVP, Nestea, Life, Innovation in some order.
The 5th person in the top 5 could be MMA, Taeja, or MC. I think Stephano or Polt MIGHT be in the top 10. Parting will 100% be in the top 10.

I don't think innovation deserves a top 5 spot to be honest. MC, Nestea, Mvp, Life and MMA are definitely secured top 5 IMO. They each deserve a spot above innovation.

Lovely article, Stuchiu. The statistical breadth, and the arguments you make for why any one player placed above another, are very compelling. I'll come back to this to re-read at my pleasure.
But if Zest makes the top 10 above Maru, that will be a huge blemish against the list for me. In fact, I disagree with such a low placement for Maru anyway, but putting the king of GomEXPvP ahead of him would just be salt in the wound.
Maru has a GSL and a SSL to his name, and neither of them came during periods of Terran dominance (Terran wasn't bleeding in 2013 by any means, but it was nothing like 1/1/1, BL/Infestor or Blink all-in). The first comes from 2013, the second comes from 2015. In 2014, he didn't get any landmark finishes, but he was the only relevant Terran in Korea for a good six months.
That's not just a "oh by the way, I guess we have to take it into account," that's the second greatest accomplishment of 2014 right after soO's 3 grand finals runs. He straight up brute forced his way into relevance with mechanical and multitasking genius when no other Terran could even make a blip on the radar.
If Zest's one and a half years of relevance, which include six to eight months wrapped up in a period of Protoss dominance worse than any other imbalance in this game's history, ends up mattering more than Maru's two and a half years that encompass ever imaginable meta... I won't even know.
I only started following SC2 in 2013, so I don't have much opinion on the people who came before. I accept the reality (unknown to me) that Mvp is #1. As for the rest, Nestea is just a soft drink to me. Polt, MMA, MarineKing, Leenock, and DRG all suffer. MC becomes a complete non-entity, a fifty-trick pony that never learned to run.
Here's my personal top 10 + obligatory Mvp:
10. Zest 9. Polt 8. Rain 7. soO 6. Taeja 5. PartinG 4. INnoVation 3. Maru 2. Life 1. Mvp
+ Show Spoiler [guess stuchiu's top 10] + 10. Nestea 9. Polt 8. Zest 7. INnoVation 6. PartinG 5. Taeja 4. MC 3. MMA 2. Life 1. MVP

so many people saying taeja doesn't belong in the top 10.
his results are better than those of MMA, Polt, Inno and zest, he won multiple GSL level tournaments and got deep in almost every GSL level tournament he attended in his live. he consistently beat the flavour of the month top player, and always was one of the last terrans standing when the based balance gods were harshly against terran.
and i know many people like to disregard his skill and call him bad. here is a list of people he has a positive lifetime winrate against, jsut so you know how silly that argument is: Life, MC, Innovation, Zest, soo, marineking (though he is negative in games thanks to ipl fight club), DongRaeGu, Leenock, Maru (though they haven't played after 2012), MMA, Soulkey, Curious (in matches only, a 0-4 in an online cup finale hurt taeja badly in the games department), Nestea, Hyun, jjakji and probably many more.
he is also even with players like sos or Mvp, to add to his ludicrous amounts of positive match ups. taeja is insane both in peak skill and consistency, and anyone who denies that because "liquid bias LOL" is just silly.

Flash 8-1 against Taeja. Flash GOAT.

Polt has been out of school since he acquired his P1-A visa a year and a half ago.

Where is article.
Damned timezones

I don't think 4 RO8+ runs are better than winning a GSL, getting 3rd-4th in another and winning the GSL championship thingy they had either.
Not that I think Zest should be ranked above Taeja or anything.
