Considering other SC2 events release this kind of schedule way in advance, including Blizzard with the global finals, I would say yes, they made a mistake. And for what? The venue? Other SC2 events will attract equal/bigger audiences I figure, the short notice really doesn't help anyone.

my guess is none.

Yeah, seriously. I've been working for a Fortune 100 company for roughly a decade and managers are very reasonable about vacations. There are companies in Silicon Valley who don't even bother asking their employees to record their time. Some people must have McJobs or shit.

I agree with everyone. Blizzard REALLY should announce important things like the schedule for the main tournaments of the year way more in advance. Especially since it involves people from all over the world and thus a lot of travelling and various lifestyles/holidays/whathaveyou that need to be taken into account.

I'm really loving the new WCS format, but the planning has been atrocious so far.

On the other hand: Pro-gamers are professionals. Playing in tournaments is their job. I already had to cancel one planned weekend away this year because of mine. That's the nature of things, especially if you don't have a fixed income, but are dependent on what you bring in anyway.
That and it really wasn't that hard to foresee the time frame WCS was going to play out in from the moment it was announced. Kane, I like the guy so this isn't me hating on him, has been complaining about schedule conflicts and traveling since the very start. Why did he even sign up for it at all if it is giving him such problems?

Some player may be pissed, but that is a sacrifice blizzard/esl is willing to make.

Because as you said, this is how they make a living. He can't just not sign up for big events cause it might possibly have a conflict. He's screwing himself out of potential thousands of dollars then if there isn't a conflict. Players should be informed in a much more timely manner when things like this are happening.

That's a good point, I was looking at the issue in a vacuum with regards to other tournaments being scheduled. I'm not really in a position to judge Blizzard against other event planners, I don't have any of the facts. Still, the entire thing feels like a shitty roll of the dice to me.

From a PR standpoint, 2015 WCS has been for the most part negative on Blizzard/ESL. People saying that players need to be flexible need to realize that planning a huge event like this, especially one tht only spans 2-3 days, should most definitely NOT be announced a month in advance. Scheduling things in advance allow people to be more flexible and make the sacrifices, but forcing people to make gambles and then get screwed out of money because of unprofessional planning is not fair.

WCS needs to improve on this going foward. It is terrible for all parties involved.

:>

Scheduling things is part of sucess.

In France as expected. Not in the neighbourhood for anyone other then French though. Oh well

Edit: Also: Kane seems to have a talent for creating drama. Good to see. I can't wait for NaNi to get in championship shape again and meet Kane a lot in the future

I've given up even considering watching WCS unless it's on and nothing else is.
Watching LoL is just so much easier. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings my time every week, with streaming on Youtube so I can rewind if I want to watch from the start, and VODs uploaded near-instantly to the same Youtube channel I can watch it on.

No thinking about schedules or what's on when. Consistent week to week. Easy to watch and no risk of missing things or getting spoiled because you start watching late.

Given that ESL were doing SC2 before Riot even launched LCS, it's ridiculous.
I am using LoL not to say it's better or worse as a game, but as an example of what you can do if you actually decide to try and be sensible.
(And yes, they have screwed up by hosting some games in the UK without enough time for players to get Visas, so they aren't perfect).

Oh, and the finals will be held in "various European cities in October 2015". Notified to people at the end of Jan 2015.
HOLY CHECK!

Glad that it's held in France. A very good news for the state of SC2 here. However that's ridiculous that the date and place weren't released earlier. It's not like it couldn't be known, GA is being held THE EXACT SAME WEEKEND EVERY YEAR.

He's in the Ro16 of WCS Premier season 1, that's the event this is about.

^actually he finished first in his group, so he indeed qualified for the Ro16. I don't know why you think that he didn't even qualify.
