Personally I can't equate the two.

Personally I can't equate the two. lol, appreciating basic courtesy is being "emotional"?? you're either trolling or have a very bizarre conception of what it is to be "emotional," but i'm not really invested at all in whether you agree with my analogy so i'm not going to pursue it

![]() SPL and SSL prvoide a lot to watch and nobody is forced to pay Gom, if they want high quality content. A very poor decision by them imo and I hope it does not work out for them.

MLG has done this before aswell right? where they locked the remainder of the tournament behind a paywall, at least that is what i can remember. They did one or two "online audience only" tournaments that required viewers to pay to watch. I don't think it was all that succesful. As much as an increasing amount of people enjoy esports, it's clearly not gotten to the point where a majority of people are willing to pay for it.

- Probably they want to push away their SC2 viewers for something else? If they don't want to make people go away they should reconsider different payment options and additional features not only abusing the stream quality. We live in years when the ecommerce is so advanced and they stick to the 2010 realm.

They want us to pay $13.99 for something that others give for free (e.g. SSL), or that they used to give for free. Their customers aren't gonna be happy. In addition, we would be paying for the quality of the stream and not much else. That's not exceeding expectations... Exceeding expectations is what they used to do: we can pay to ask questions to the players in post-match interviews, many people can't be in the studio, so subs could send their cheerfuls to an e-mail and they could be shown on stream, they could do lottery where x subs per GSL get to play/talk/get coached by a professional player/the champion/the runner-up, there's SO much monetisation potential there! But no instead they decrease quality to 240p and I ain't watching that shit.

Judging by how many people subscribed today, it works. Yes, in terms of bringing in new viewers for sc2, it's a bad long term move. However, GOM as a company needs to survive short time. I'll leave this bold here ![]() if they don't need to survive long
