lol "rampant homo and xenophobia" that you have never seen, probably only heard on CNN.
please stop spreading bullshit and lies. Russians from eastern part of the country that get attacked.. lol. Sure it happens once every once in a while, just like in the US kind of often, some white guys beat up or shoot a black teenager. Isolated accidents always occur.
Hate exists everywhere, depicting Russia as a whole as dangerous for that it's stupid. That's like saying "Don't go to the U.S., the rampant firearm violence is out of control". Is it true that the US has hundreds of cases more than any other nation? yes. Would you ever tell someone to don't go for that? No yo wouldn't. Please think twice before you write stuff that has 0 coherency.

Russia, and especially Moscow is totally fine and safe for foreigners, and especially for an event like DH.

I tried not to generalize, I also stated that it would be pretty stupid to asume Dreamhack itself would be unsafe for anyone. Yes, homophobia in russia has been in the spotlight of western media and that might have sensationalised the issue, butthis guardian article seems to have hard facts. Does russia have events where gay people can be out in the open (eg. Pride parade)? Would a visiting gay couple be able to safely stroll around Moscow hand-in-hand without being verbally abused? I am not being ironic, I geniunely don't know and would like a Russian opinion.

Retards can be everywhere, it's absolute generalization.
In general - noone will touch you, it's not like anyone cares if you're not hitting some religious fanboys ofc, who just cancelled Manson's concert, rofl. But they're despised by almost everyone, so it's pretty safe.
And you can safely marry same gender as well, noone can stop you either.

Westerners are just getting hyped and calling out Russia for "anti-gay" just because there is one hilarious law about not showing porn and gay-propaganda to children. But it doesn't affect anyone either as we all know, if you want to watch porn as a child, you will watch it anyway.

For parade, idk but at least, when a lot of meetings were happening, LGBT column was staying right near me and noone ever touched them but only treated as part of meeting.

Ohboy, sometimes i really think that we get what we deserve with such quality posters.

Look I don't have anything against you in particular, I want to point out how what you say, in my opinion is silly and I will explain you why.

To answer your last part, it truly depends when/where, like location wise (what city, what area) - of course in some areas it might be way more dangerous than others. but then I want you to think again, as someone who has lived a great amount of time in the US (in fact, more than I lived in Russia), and visited central / south US, shit that goes on there is pretty intense. Some places are SUPER racist, when i went from a black friend of mine from LA the lady told us to get out of the store because she didn't want "niggers" inside her facility. My friend was constantly in fear of being attacked and the faces of other white people looking at him where fucking scary, even myself being white and going around with him.
In lots of US states racism is a huge issue and to the same extent, it is being openly gay and homosexual.
Try to do the things you described in Alabama, Tennesse, Georgia etc. etc. and see what happens. I will tell you what, you get fucking beat up real bad. REAL BAD

The problem that I have with people commenting on this Russian thing is that all of a sudden everyone cares about homophobia, racism etc. and other things that happen in a TON of other places, but they are not under the spotlight just because it's not part of the US agenda to make it so and that's when all of a sudden you are silly in my eyes.

Keep in mind Obama is the one that said a while ago that he had "no more patience for Putin's views on gays", (during the Olympics thing) the same Obama who a week later said that the friendship is strong between US and Saudi Arabia, where being gay is ACTUALLY illegal (unlike Russia) and where you actually get executed for being one.

But everyone goes to vacation to Dubai, just like everyone goes to vacation EVERYWHERE else, and it doesn't concern them in the slightest that in a ton of US states you get lynched for being gay (or black) - Would you ever hear someone boycotting something in the US because of some states? Keep in mind that the ""liberal"" and most advanced part of the US is actually the minority of the states (mostly west and east coasts) the other states in the middle are pretty damn bad.

Look at Total Biscuit who tries to be a badass saying he doesn't support this this or that pretending to stand up to some social / ethical values all of a sudden - against Russia - when he in fact, for instance, should have never sent people to China then, a country that has FAR worst humane records than Russia under every aspect. Civil rights, civil freedom, censorship, dictatorship (no elections), mass executions of prisoners with no trial (even higher than US). I have visited China multiple times and the shit I have seen there is insane. There is no freedom and homosexuals have a far worst destiny if they get caught. China is a super close ally of North Korea too- did you ever hear some other clown say anything about not sending their players there? No. Why? Because atm China is not under fire from US media so no one thinks of it. Russia has been under fire because they have had a lot of tensions growing.
Putin took Snowedn, then US started a media campaign on russia's homophobia, and it kept going on and on until the recent crisis broke. And now it's at the most high point of climax with this whole anti-Russian thing.

Lastly, I want to tell you that in general in WHOLE eastern europe, the views are still very conservative as opposed to more "western" EU states like germany, france etc. so even in Ukraine, or Poland, Hungary etc. there is strong overall racism 'feel' towards black and darker people- and also a general underlaying homophobia based again, on area/location in particular , I have myself witness probably the harshest episode of homophobia when on vacation in Warsaw where I was hosted by a friend who studies there. So I think the whole eastern europe, just like middle-america, has a lot of work to do when it comes down to being more mentally open, but then, from here - to boycott, trying to make a whole country look so black and white like the media does is just stupid.
Moscow is overall, just as safe as other big European capitals. Overall safe, in busy areas/subways one must be careful to pickpocketing etc. , DH is hosted in a central area and the players won't have any particular issues.

I hope that helps

What about xenophobia/racism in Korea ?
To link politic and (e)sport is just stupid in general.
I hope it will be a great event, and good luck to all the participants.

in Poland it's true gays have a hard time, but not due to government regulations, more because of the stupidity of certain, non government civilian individuals. In Russia I believe it's both, government AND the people making it a hard time for homosexual people.

Is this even still happening? With all the security warnings issued for Americans and Europeans about flying to Russia, Middle East and other regions in global conflict right now and with these regions. It's pretty scary right now and things are getting worse globally.

How safe is this event going to be for spectators and players alike? It is a big concern of mine, very scary times, seems like most Americans don't even know whats going on in the world.
Remember our motto: We ain't got it.

My sides hurt when i read your paragraph.
Well i guess i can't blame you since it seems you don't get to travel a lot.
As someone who moves everywhere all the time i can guarantee you that moscow will be 100% safe for the players, don't worry about that. The only danger they may face would be some random evil deeds that happens in pretty much any other major city all over the world.

With all the security warnings issued for Americans and Europeans about flying to Russia,

If i had got a dollar every time i went to a place that was warned by UE or USA...

You guys don't realize that even Sevastopol who was the heart of the conflict is actually quite a quiet city now (been there a week ago...)

the media always reports the extremes, the russians live in moscow just like any modern city. It will be just fine, I have no worries at all going there. I think there is too much talk about security/conflicts, and we should look forward to this great event!

You guys really think samsung sent their player because of popularity? Nah~ SKT is more biggest game team and than KT. Actually samsung doesnt support sc2 game team as much as skt and kt. SKT support sc2 team 1 million dollars a year. And they receive 500 dollar when they win 1game in proleague. Bisu's year salary was three hundred thousand dollars. So you guys really kespa team dont send players because of money problem?

Putting aside any racist and politic stuffs, it is the most uninteresting dreamhack lineup I ever seen in 2 years.

The viewer count will reflect how poor is the lineup, hopefully Samsung sent his boy out so it might help.

This dreamhack is however the chance for Snute to secure his Blizzcon spot.

hhmm I just noticed that the 3 Samsung players suddenly isn't listed on the wiki page anymore. Anyone know if they've cancelled their participation?

EDIT: never mind I found the dreamhack article that says they've cancelled their participation. looks pretty good for Snute haha

Group C is really weird. 3 really good players and at the same time there are groups where is only 1 "good" player and rest are "never heard of/nonames" names. Bad seeding by DH
