maybe just go ask your family physician if its healthy for a 12 year old to stay up at night at 4AM playing video games

if your physician says its healthy, then well no need to talk about Reynors sleep habits then

I was asked at that age to get up at 4am each day for swimming practise and then have another training session later in the day (10pm at latest) would you call that unhealthy?
The parents and the child make the shots who are we to question?

i hope you actually liked swimming and werent forced into it

For those people questioning this childs health based on essentially no information i'd just like you to answer a few questions.

1 - Exactly how often does he stay up this late playing SC2?
2 - What are his normal sleeping patterns and how much sleep does he normally get?
3 - What the exact effects of lack of sleep on a 12 year old child and how much sleep do you need to miss before it becomes an issue?
4 - How is Reynor developing as a child? Is he doing well at school? Is he growing normally? Do you know anything at all about him besides that he stayed up late one night playing SC2?

Frankly if you don't know any of this then who the f*ck are you to be questioning the morals or ethics of his parents and how they're raising him. Would these same question be getting asked if he was up early training for a sport like swimming? Did none of you guys ever stay up late playing games or even doing something you shouldn't?

Also i just have to lol at the reasons being given. Oh i work with ADHD kids a few months a year and i know i psychiatrist. That fully makes you able to assess a childs health based on the tiny sliver of information provided in this thread. What does your work with ADHD children actually include? What are your qualifications? Exactly what did the psychiatrist tell you and what information did they have about Reynor to provide you with such information.

I have actually worked in and studied paedatrics but i wouldn't for a second presume that meant i could making sweeping assumptions about a 12 year olds health based on him having one late night. Great you know how cortisol is released by the human body and what impact it has. That doesn't mean you are qualified to pass judgement here.

Use a little more common sense in future.

Can't tell if trolling..........

12 year old kid should be sleeping at night. Growth hormones and cortisol are released only at night and only in deep sleep. Kid is growing. Doesn't sleep at night, he'll grow to be about 5'5.

So as i posted above show me the research about cortisol and how it affects a childs growth. How much sleep is Reynor getting? How much sleep does a child that age need to not have his growth affected? Has Reynor showing any signs of this or is he growing just like everyone else? Not to mention there are plenty of people who end up short simply because of their genetics.

What is Reynors sleeping pattern? Yes he stayed up late that one night what about in general? The truth is you have no f*cking idea and you're making huge assumptions about his life. Obviously not getting enough sleep and regularly sleeping at the wrong times has an impact on your body. You only have to work shift workers that. Unless you can approve that this actually applies to Reynor it's worthless information.

There's a reason there's a bed time. Children that lack a steady sleeping schedule have a significantly increased risk of suffering from ADHD amongst other things.

Show me the specific research linking ADHD to staying up late as a 12 year old. Because as far as i'm aware that isn't what actually causes ADHD and just some quick reading would suggest it doesn't cause ADHD (especially in a child who is already 12). Being a parent doesn't qualify you to make this sort of judgement either, i'm not sure what anyone is supposed to gain by asking a random parent.

You're making some pretty extraordinary with little to back them up and then just acting like it's common knowledge.

What a load of tripe. Kids sometimes stay up late, get the over it. I sometimes stayed up late reading a book or playing a game without letting my parents know. On christmas or easter sometimes i would stay up late because i was too excited to sleep. Occasionally my friends and i would have sleepovers and we would be up most of the night talking and playing and doing whatever.

We all developed perfectly fine and there is absolutely nothing abnormal about any of those things. Calling someone a god awful parent because they let their child stay up to 3.30 once is an embarrassing statement to make and you just come off as an asshole. It's not true at all and it's incredibly insulting for no reason.

Yep, just more hyperbolic statements. God forbid if it was ever known that this kid was suffering neglect or from some real irresponsible parenting.

Pretty amazing to get to a GM level aged 12, will look out for this kid in the future.

How many doctors here. I am Reynor's father, I know that now is not a good hour for a 12 year old child, but remember that it is only for this week, and i can close my eyes for his dream. When he is at home has a very normal rhythm of sleep. I know the myinsanity guys and i'm very quiet. I think that now you're exceeded a bit. Why have you this hate?

He makes sport, has a good performance in school and he is an happy child. what's the problem. It has no girlfriend ando so more time for SC2.

Yeah, well, that's part of the problem. You don't know what is right or wrong.

Someone letting their child stay up late isn't a god awful parent. Theres a huge gray area that you missed, because like you said yourself, you lack the ability or common sense to reach such a basic conclusion. Your words hurt man, his father is posting in this thread, you need to back off and wake up to reality and deal with your own problems first before you get on other peoples cases and call them horrible parents, because your attitude sucks man, it sucks bad.
We have multiple brackets generated in advance. Relax . (Kennigit) I just simply do not understand how it can be the time to play can be 22nd at 9:30 pm PST / midnight the 23rd at the same time. (GGzerg)

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just trolls, jealous people, or those who have never ventured past their mum's suburban home.

Seems like you have a handsome, talented and happy child on your hands and should be very proud.

lol @ people QQing about being up so late as a kid.
im pretty sure he still sleeps his 7-9 hours every day, why the fuck would anyone care WHEN you sleep oO

every person has a different sleep pattern. if i would go to sleep before 1 am it would be useless cuz i simply wont ever be tired, despite working at 8 am the next day.

Why has everyone assumed that his gm status achieved at 3-4 AM means the kid always stays awake until 3-4 AM? And if staying till 3-4 AM is bad, negative attitude that some people show is far worse for someone of his age.

Yes. There is also a good chance that he was marathoning or something to reach grandmaster, or he was close and wanted to keep playing until he reached it.

lmao, kid stays up until 3 am playing a game and people go nuts. hilarious

12 is pretty old, I don't really think its a big deal if 12 year old wants to get 6 hours of sleep a night...

has it even been said how much sleep he actually gets a night? it'd make a lot of you sound like gigantic dumbasses if he just sleeps those nights from 4am to noon

support, understanding and love from the people closest to you outweighs any temporary off sleep schedule ... pretty sure

doing what you love is invaluable - no matter the age.
some of us were born early, some of us late.

It's ok if you want to troll me about my country, but since you come from italy, you should just avoid doing that ^^

really ?? oh yes i forgot LUX. has given so much to world civilization who doesnt know Cesare, Leonardo, Raffaello, Michelangelo,Dante, Fermi, Giotto, Volta,Pirandello great men from Lux.

And yet, you live in one of the poorest country of Europe and ask money to countries like germany or luxembourg everyday.
So please, avoid bashing me for my country, this is stupid and infantile. And I don't see the point in doing that at all.

First off, congrats Reynor!

As a kid I couldn't sleep that much. My parents would force me to go to bed at 10pm and I would wake up at 3am. I didn't have a computer as a child so couldn't do much though. Read books, draw random pictures, etc. And I would be perfectly fine the rest of the day. Until my junior year in high school I was the tallest kid in the school.

You can't simply think of all 12 year olds as the same person. Everyone has different genes, personalities, habits, etc. While staying up late I guess isn't necessarily a good thing, calling the parents and mYi out that it's hurting the kid really badly is a bit condescending and partially groundless. I do hope he gets good rests though.

I'm pretty sure everyone here on TL wishes Reynor to be successful and healthy at the same time.
