However, Team Liquid does generate revenue based on the number of people viewing the website, and high-quality articles increase the number of people who will view the site. Most sites that run both articles and ads follow this model. For example, when I write my articles for Ars Technica, I'm paid for my work. I'm a good writer (if I wasn't, Ars wouldn't have been paying me for nearly a decade) and I'm also passionate about Starcraft 2 to the point of absurdity. I would love to contribute to Team Liquid as a writer. But I can't, because I don't want to devalue myself as a writer, and devalue writing in general. I realize that maybe the numbers aren't quite there to support paying authors on Team Liquid. There is always a shortage of money in eSports. But if you paid your writers, you'd get higher quality work, and you'd get more consistency. You'd get people willing to write for you for longer, who would then build up a more loyal reader following over the years. In time, this could generate more traffic and more revenue, and maybe even more interest in eSports. It's just a thought. | ||
