(Z)Acer.Scarlett came out on top at Red Bull Battle Grounds: North America, winning three consecutive best-of-three series against (T)CMStorm_Polt to clinch the championship.

Red Bull North America -- the first tournament in Red Bull's 2014 SC2 circuit -- featured an innovative format (details) where each of the six competitors started with three "lives." With each player taking turns to challenge one another to a match, there was no small amount of intrigue involved as everyone looked to maximize their chances of survival.

(P)IvD.puCK was the open target on day one, and suffered elimination with three losses despite winning three series as well. More elimination followed on day two, with (Z)viOLet and (P)EG.HuK becoming the next two players to be targeted and eliminated by their peers.

The third final day saw just (T)MajOr (1 life), (T)Polt (3 lives) and (Z)Scarlett (2 lives) remaining in the competition. MajOr quickly had his last life taken off him by Polt, leaving Polt and Scarlett to contest the title one on one.

Despite having a 3-2 advantage in lives, Polt was unable to overcome Scarlett's formidable ZvT. Scarlett demonstrated her mastery over the muta-ling-bane composition, looking largely untroubled as she fended off all of Polt's aggression. Scarlett took a surprisingly easy victory in the end, taking three straight series off Polt by a combined map score of 6-1.

Scarlett takes home $4600 for being the sole survivor, as well as claiming a spot in the Red Bull Grand Finals to be held in September. The next live Red Bull event will be held on July 11-13 from Atlanta, Georgia.

I didn't know that anyone on earth could go 6-1 against Polt. I mean, Polt wasn't on fire or anything, but he certainly didn't seem to be off of his game to me. Was just an amazing performance from Scarlett.

Scarlett is the best foreigner at the moment I think :D Well played to both Polt and Scarlett! Scarlett has the undisputed best ZvT of Foreigners, even if she may not be the best foreigner (Which I still think she is!)

Lets not downplay Majors two games. He played really well, with korean level control, drops and positioning. He also took the battle to Polt several times. But then Polt went all Polt on him and won 2-0.

these labelings are so tiring, it's like every month someone pops as "wow best foreign hope amigod".

She never stopped being the best foreigner. She has ripped in pieces even high caliber korean players, she's more than the best foreigner.

I have always thought she was the best, (even with Naniwa) however many people have been labeling Vortix and Snute as the best, and I want to make it clear that she is the best :D

Polt's worst matchup is TvZ, but that is only because his TvP and TvT are insane. I was just thinking that if you put soO or Soulkey against Polt, they would end up winning with something more like a 6-2 or 6-3.. But maybe I am wrong.

EDIT: I worded that extremely horribly before.

Wow I have a whole new respect for Scarlett. I know she is good, but sometimes she performs underwhelming. However, this time it was total domination. Losing only one map, but destroying Polt in all others nearly brought tears to my eyes.

Although I was rooting for Polt, I am deeply impressed by Scarlett today.

I hope she can keep this kind of performance in her next tournament.

Scarlett maybe the best TvZ foreigners having beaten polt, bomber, Maru and sometimes Taeja, but the not really against other zerg and toss. But still I feel she improved so much these days. Hope she can win major tournament soon, would be a blast.

Not so surprise with the result. But like she says though, Polt reluctant to harass early game with Hellbat timing. I guess he's a bit late in practicing the build.

I can't wait for the vods. I hope they release replays, so I can study the shit out of these games.

I wonder why Polt didn't try to mix in early hellbat pressure though. I assume he had enough time to test these changes (a week at least I think) but who knows. Maybe he wasn't entirely confident with them, so decided to stick to his trusty arsenal of terran trickery.

I think they need to take another look at the format for this. I think it's unfair that Puck won more series than HuK, MajOr, and Violet, but didn't get any prize money.

Grats to Scarlett

Polt should maybe have tried to mix it up, with some early cheese, proxys, or Gangnam Style Terran (float to gold) etc

not saying he would have taken a game off the BEST FOREIGNER, but atleast it wouldnt have made it so easy for the BEST FOREIGNER to read his moves every game

Oh I know I want the vods so badly. did you watch any of them Angelias1234? If not, I suggest you start with game 2 of the second set.

Both of them played absolutely brilliant in that game, but also made mistakes.

It goes in my top 10 tvz matches to watch in 2014.

Lol you could put all 7 games in that list also!

I think Polt didn't trust the hellbat just yet, so decided to stick to the bread and butter. He played it almost perfect in every game, but Scarlett seemed to be one step ahead most of the time.

I think Scarlett really studied Polt's game. She attacked several times just before 1/1 or 2/2 of Polt. She knew exactly when his upgrades would finish.

And her timings on the harass with those mutas!

Holy crap she poked every base with those mutas, and usually picked off 1-3 scv before backing away.

These seven games deserves to be studied lol, and I want to write part of it.

Edit-Also how many medivacs she picked off in mid-air! It made mutas look op vs terran. She shut down the drops most of the time.

It should also be mentioned that those were 7 long, intense, macro-as-FUCK games! Scarlett admitted in her winners interview that she's pretty bad at holding off heavy early game aggression in TvZ but she expected to win because she knew Polt avoided that kind of play style in his TvZ.
... In life very little goes right. "Right" meaning the way one expected and the way one wanted it. One has no right to want or expect anything.

*puts on tinfoil hat*

Maybe Scarlett secretly had Polt's brain implanted with a mind reading chip.

That is why she won so many skirmishes!

I would describe these seven games, as a match between two equal macro players, but micro being the decided factor.

Scarlett took more favorable skirmishes, while staying par with econ and tech.

Scarlett is also a real innovator. In the zvz vs Violet she pulled out brood lords in zvz, transitioning straight from mutas without any ranged ground unit on the field. Like wtf? :D I've also seen her pull off mass muta in zvz even after the spore buff (and that was on KR gm ladder).

Time to make some popcorn and watch these games.

All games were simply amazing, thx for all the players/casters/crew/redbull for putting up such a show.

The format redbull uses is probably the best in SC2 at the moment ...from an entertainment value POV. Such drama...much Scarlet...wow

Scarlett is in an impressive level and mindset right now. Such an amazing performance here after reaching R4 in HSC and R16 in DH. Even when she's eliminated, it's often by small margins, so it's clear that she can be a threat to anyone. She certainly had this kind of level before and so we know what she is capable of. That said, I'm glad she is reaching his top form again specially now that she is attending everything, so I hope she performs very well on MLG too. Fear Scarlett!

It's fun to see the 6 players that participated in the RedBull BG perfectly splitted into the two groups.

Damn after watching that, my conclusion is that Polt is really bad at TvZ. He refuses to play standard with thor/hb or at least thor vs mutas. His reactions to mutas harass was really sloppy I think and his opening pressure is poor imho. Wtf with those marauders Polt, seriously.
Anyway, gratz to Scarlett, she's a monster vs T.

Zerg OP, nerf females!!!!

Graz to Scarlett, my favorite "foreign" (I'm canadian too) player, and second only to MC.

I hope she'll deliver that much at MLG (more Polt vs Scarlett action) and Rebdull BG.

She even made ZvT enjoyable to watch. :D
