The GSL Semi Finals have been set as soO and TRUE both proved superior to their opponents on the evening.
It was a straightforward 3-0 series for soO, as he deftly navigated the mind games and pitfalls of ZvZ with relaxed precision. He's made it a rite of passage to beat top Zergs each season as he tries to make it to his third consecutive finals, having ousted Life last season and Soulkey before that. soO continues to be one of the most underappreciated players in all of SC2 despite his unparalleled consistency, and it'll be interesting to see if he can carry his ZvZ momentum into the semi finals, where he faces the upstart TRUE.
As one of the more unorthodox players in the scene today, TRUE has been something of an anomaly in reaching the semi finals. Originally known for his maddening games against FanTaSy, TRUE entered this series against Zest as a huge underdog. His fans expected him to try something different in his quest to reach the round of 4, and no one was left disappointed. By utilizing a never-before-seen speedling queen corruptor attack in the midgame, TRUE forced Zest to abandon building phoenixes and focus either on a ground army or void rays. This opened up a timing for mutalisks to do damage, and it worked in 2 out of the 3 games that he tried it. Zest was able to push it back long enough on Alterzim Stronghold in order to build the ultimate army, but he was unable to prevent large losses on both Overgrowth and King Sejong Station. It was the final game on Frost, however, that proved to be the most inexplicable as Zest died to 80 slow lings due to a missed force field at the ramp. The losses ended the series at 3-1 in TRUE's favor and ended Zest's championship title defense.
This means that soO will face a Zerg in his 3rd consecutive semi final, and he has proven impervious in the mirror matchup in knockout rounds so far. However, this will be the first time that soO will be considered the favorite, and it'll be interesting to see how he handles the pressure.
Day 1 of the Code S Semi Finals will be on Wednesday, Jun 18 9:00am GMT (GMT+00:00) starting with Classic vs Maru, while Day 2 with soO vs TRUE will be on Friday, Jun 20 9:00am GMT (GMT+00:00). Will we have an all SKT T1 or all Jin Air finals, or a SKT T1 vs Jin Air match from the semi finals onward? Make sure to tune in as Season 2 reaches its climax.
<@Kyyuna> well its ok though <@Kyyuna> Maru has this GSL now :D <@Kyyuna> so praise Terran people, because after he wins. David Kim gonna nerf terran stating they are imba (joking of course)
Comon, Maru I believe in you D:
I feel bad for Zest though, I really hoped that KT brought another gold back to their rightful place T________T
I'd most like to see Maru v soO in the finals. I wouldn't even mind, at that point, who won - soO either finally gets the title he obviously deserves, or he officially becomes the Final Boss for GSL heroes to slay before reaping their glory and treasure... AND it would be hilarious of a Terran won. So either way, in that imaginary finals, I think there would be a satisfying story. Now watch it end up being Classic v TRUE! That would be an interesting narrative too, kinda... I guess...
