The final full day of WCS America Challenger play has wrapped and 31 out of 32 Premier League spots have been filled for Season 2. EG.Jaedong, ZoO.Top, HKA.Sen, and NesTea held off spirited challenges from their opponents, all earning returns to the Premier League for one more season.
Jaedong earned a predictable win over NonY, but the series was not without surprises. NonY put up a good fight against the Lone Star Champion and even managed to take a map off the Tyrant in an hour-long brawl on Waystation. While that may be only a small consolation after being sent back down to the qualifiers, NonY showed that he can compete with one of the best of WCS America. Jaedong will advance to Premier League and once again looks like one of the favorites to make a deep run.
In the second series on the night, Top showcased his trademark aggressiveness in a close 3-2 win over Kane. The series was an odd one, with both putting players each other into awkward situations with an assortment of unorthodox builds. In the end, Top was able to topple the Canadian and advance to Premier League for the fourth consecutive time. He will be hoping to make a better showing as he has been tossed out in last place of each of his past three Ro32 groups.
The veteran Taiwanese Zerg Sen was able to edge out a win over Guitarcheese in another close 3-2 series. A quick ling/bane attack gave Sen the win in game one, but Guitarcheese managed to respond with two wins of his own to make match point. Unfortunately for the American Zerg, he was then defeated in back to back games. Sen advances to the Premier League for his fourth time, and also as the only Taiwanese player this season.
Finally, the legendary Nestea was able to claim the 31st spot in Premier. Nestea went down 0-2 against Iaguz to start the series, and all seemed lost for the three time GSL champ. On the brink of being forced into the Ladder Wild Card qualifiers, Nestea was able to pull off a huge comeback with three straight wins in a series of scrappy games. Unfortunately for Australian fans, Iaguz's loss confirmed the third consecutive season without an Australian player in Premier League.
The final Premier League spot will be decided on Monday, May 12 11:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) in a match between Minigun and qxc. The match was postponed from its original date because of health reasons for Minigun.

I ended up leaving during the game that Nony took off of JD. When I left Rotti was saying "The only thing worse than stalkers vs swarm hosts is zealots..."
Then I come back an hour later thinking I'd probably missed a few games of Top vs Kane. Instead, it's still the SAME game and all JD has is the island expansion and no army...and Nony wins. I'm going to have to watch the vod to see how the heck Nony pulled that off...

Everytime I hope NesTea actually does something in Premier.. Let's hope he can make it happen this time :D

It was pretty clear to me that JD didn't take Nony very seriously in the first three games with the first game having four hatches before pool and such. Last game was the most standard game and it lasted ten minutes and JD rolled over NonY hard. Still G3 was very fun to watch. Sometimes watching players make dumb mistakes is pretty entertaining.

Jaedong had 4 hatched before pool in the finals of tournaments when he was versus a protoss sometimes. So I wouldn't say he didn't take him "seriously".

Whoa! Nestea won? I though for sure he was gonna lose game four when i stopped watching.

I want Nestea to win it all.

Such odd games last night! Meta be damned. Rotti did a phenomenal job casting. Fun season so far!
|
Feel for Iaguz and Guitarcheese. Both players were really close to big upsets. Wouldn't be surprised to see either qualify for Challenger again next season, and qualify if they get a better draw.
NoNy played surprisingly well in game 3, but Jaedong is a beast all his own. It sucks that he got drawn against one of the favorites to win the whole thing, but that's the way it goes sometimes.
Can't wait for the groups to be drawn! I am looking forward to this season's play; we have a healthy mix of Koreans and non-Koreans this time around =D

Neither of them would be upset TBH. I guess Sen and Nestea's experience carried them through in the end.

There's a simple question that clears things up pretty quickly: Why would the superior player that thinks he is clearly the superior player risk 4-hatch before pool?
Add that to the common evidence that Jaedong does not screw around... and you have your answer.
I would always (in current form) bet on Jaedong to beat Nony, but Jaedong still took him seriously. Well played game 3, Tyler.

damn, i tuned out when it was 2-1 in Iaguz's favor and assumed he'd finish it up. He's very good, especially when alot of people say Zerg is OP vs terran.
Anyway, excellent effort versus a very strong zerg

4/4 liquibets yeeeeeaaaaahhh

There's a simple question that clears things up pretty quickly: Why would the superior player that thinks he is clearly the superior player risk 4-hatch before pool? well, your interpretation is valid, but the other interpretation would be to say "this build is so out there that jaedong must think he's so much better that it doesn't matter what he does/doesn't respect nony's ability to punish it," which i think is what the other poster was going for. i agree with you though - i think it's more likely that jaedong wouldn't want to mess around in challenger, especially against protoss which is not his best matchup and also the most unpredictable race

That G3 NonY vs JD was pretty awesome to watch, there were so many times where the game seemed won for both players, I was on the edge of my seat
|
Nooooooooooooo Nony!
Such a tough draw for such a great player.
|
Iaguz he was so close!

So many crazy things happened in an extended conspiracy propagated by Shellshock to ruin Darkhorse's predictions

Some very strange games last night, Sen made some major blunders, and a couple of the games were cringe worthy with uncharacteristic decision making. I thought that Nestea also played horrible on some maps his creep spread was almost non-existent on one map and he did a roach rush without making follow up speedlings to close out the game. There were too many observers in the games lagging out causing delays, and Rotti did a great job despite being noticeably exhausted near the end. Shout outs to the people posting spoilers from Twitter, and the immature Twitch chat filled with garbage as usual. Overall I'd rate it a 7/10.

Does anyone know where the link to the VODs for jaedong vs nony are? i couldn't seem to find them

NesTea vs iaguz is utterly weird, Nestea is seemed to have no idea on timing, and sat back for no reason, waited for losing hatchery with unbelievable amount of banelings, then went for the battle. Yet his banelings just rolled in and out, killing everything, no matter those were thors or marauders.
|
Where are the VoDS? I want to watch the Nony/Nestea games!
|
Those games with Nestea were pretty ugly to watch. As a fan, all it did was make you worry at the edge of your seat.
