KaL (GooJila) has decided to retire “I want to rest for the time being.”
KaL, who after finishing his military service continued his progaming career by joining Prime, has regrettably pronounced his retirement.
With the disbanding of Airforce ACE and STX Soul, KaL had no team to go back to. Even while doing his service, KaL had not lost his passion for progaming. As soon as he was discharged, he joined Prime right away and fulfilled that passion.
However, the long period in which he was away from progaming (even with his time in Airforce ACE) held him back. Despite his best efforts, his game sense didn’t seem like it was returning and he eventually made the decision to retire.
When KaL joined Prime he had said, “If I feel like I am unable to grow into a 1 win card for my team I will retire.” He practiced rigorously in Round 1 but he felt like he had reached his limit and told Coach Park about his intentions to retire.
KaL plans to take a break after retirement. He had been unable to rest after he was discharged [having joined Prime right away]. He plans to go to on a vacation and do things he had been unable to do previously and clear his mind a bit.
Prime’s Coach Park states “His passion for progaming was strong but it seems his time away was too hard to overcome,” and “I’m thankful for the effort KaL put in for Prime.”

oh wow, that's quite the news. Thanks for translating! I think this should be in the SCII section as well (or community news section) since he played quite a bit of SCII PL. Sad for SCII fans but may be good news for BW ones if he joins SOSPA so I guess some win, some lose lol. Best of luck to him in whatever he does next!
Best of luck to Kal in whatever he chooses next! Hopefully we get to see him play more BW, but if not I will still appreciate the memories he gave us .

Oh god I laughed so much at this hahaha!
OT: Sad news (well, for SC2 fans) as it seemed for a moment he could actually become a really strong player. The first PL match he played was just perfect: hilarious and completely improbable build, and yet a win in the end :D
Kal was one of those tosses in broodwar (like free, much, reach, etc) that were not as good as Bisu or stork, but had some amazing games vs some of the best zergs or terrans out there.
If Kal comes back to bw, I am actually gonna be quite happy.
It's pretty reasonable, I don't feel like it's a retirement from esports forever and ever, the dude just wants to go on vacation, see his family/friends and soulsearch a bit from the sound of things. Whether or not he plays either starcrafts or ends up managing/coaching/anything is up in the air, again from the sound of things.
Of course Korean announcements are always constructed to hide one's shame and save face. Hopefully, his passion for progaming really is strong.

Every time an old STX player retires just feels horrible. I was really happy with his first match in Proleague, but I guess he simply couldn't keep up. Well, it's probably for the best.
I hope he figures out what he wants to do next, and enjoys the break away as he has earned it that's for sure.
It's unfortunate though, he seemed to come out really strong and then fell off a bit. I feel like he could've been a really strong player in SC2, maybe once he takes a break has "passion" will be restored once again. He is obviously very skilled and a Coaching position honestly wouldn't be that bad for him, I think he would do well in that. But if he does decide to try his hand at the progamming life, I think after this break he will succeed!

i would rather ask "can he get a job"?
From how good he got in BW and especially him forcing himself to train rigiruously for many years, you should be confident that Kal can do anything he sets his mind to.

yeah man, but will isn't always enough and kal is old i mean, it seems some of the most recent bjs actually went to streaming cuz they couldnt land anything remotely decent money wise
i dont doubt for a second any pro gamer that spent more than a year living in a kr bw team house has an iron will

Wow, 23 is old? It's the age when most of students end university and get a job. The problem is not his age but that he had fame and salary that he will not have in a normal job in near future.

Yeah sure it is.... if you let it. Any bw pro at Kal's level has such a good work ethic and mental capacity that this shouldn't be an issue in real life. These gamers are very smart

But that's the thing, do you know if they went to streaming because they couldn't find a decently paying job, or because that's what they wanted to play the game they had been playing for the last decade?
Besides, some of the players who went to SSL/streaming (like bisu) are already pretty loaded. They don't really need to worry about money NOW. They've got time.

I think best path for KaL would be to study to try to get into uni and in the meantime maybe do afreeca stream? He could opt to do part time jobs like Light did before but afreeca is probably better money wise. he just needs a a bit of a boost from some of his former teammates. need someone to do what movie did for kwanro "play game make money! play game make money!"

Oh well. Easy to see the direction this place is going.

rofl, people like you seem to have very short memories :D
I hope Kal enjoys taking a break and goes traveling around so he can see more of the world besides the inside of progaming houses and military barracks.

Well, to be completely honest (but not fair), some players have migrated from SC2 to BW recently but not the other way around. To be fair but not completely honest, when the opposite was true, many people were temp banned when they possibly could have gotten away with a non-action.
OT: I hope that Kal does whatever he wants to do now, sort of like a free dragon would. If that's BW, let him play brood war.

agree with this. He can study while using his break and other free times to stream a bit. Since his stream isn't as constant as some of the other streamers and he would be newer to the afreeca scene, I think he would be able to make quite a fair bit in the first while.
its a win-win! the fans get a chance to chat with and get to know more about their favorite progamer + he plays BW. KaL gets to play a game that I assume he likes and makes money by doing gso. not to mention he has a lot of his ex teammates streaming so itll open up fun get together opportunities or like battle of the expros STX vs CJ/SKT/Oz/etc lol
really need new zergs and terrans though. i wonder when effort is going to afreeca :l
