It's sad to see the community response to one of the great foreigners leaving the scene, but NaNiwa's behavior over the last few days has been completely out of line. There are much better ways to leave a community that has supported you for three years than rage-quitting a tournament and never playing again. While his complaints about the equipment provided may have been valid, no other player has complained that a proxy or all-in failed due to crowd noise. The closest remarks to verify are Polt saying that he could hear the voices of the casters in the post-match interview, but even when Polt was eliminated he did not blame faulty setup. At the end of the day, NaNiwa's complaints only hold water if he showed a dedicated interest in the tournament. Through his Twitter posts, he made it very clear that he did not expect great success and had given up practice or even casual playing, making his comments post-forfeit that he didn't see the point in competing due to the soundproofing Issue (on Twitter) seem like a poor excuse for his frustration and forfeit. Disrespecting tournament staff and all members of the community through a follow-up post crosses the line of common decency and ensures he lose support by all but a few dedicated fanboys. I hope to see him succeed in whatever he chooses to move on to, but hope sincerely that he better learns how to control himself to avoid isolating himself from a fanbase that truly cares for his success.
GL in your future, NaNiwa. It was a blast while it lasted.
Not GM, but at least I haven't lost a BO5 in 1 game...

"im glad to be done with this disgusting community for now, lets see how i feel in the future. i dont owe you anything"

The thing is, i never liked NaNiwa because of his behaviour but respeceted him as player, but this tweet is just disgusting. There are really people that supported him and thats what he says to the people that supported him through the last 3 years. Its kinda sad.

It's hard to be a fan of Naniwa when he behaves the way he does. This was the last straw for me. I hope he leaves and never comes back. I'd rather support someone who actually enjoys the game and respects his fans. I just don't know of any other foreigner protoss that has the skills to win a tournament that is dominated by Koreans.

Why do you think you are owed something just because you "support" someone.....

He said he doesn't care at all about the community, so why would you think he owes YOU anything lol?

So many self-entitled people in this thread who believe they matter or need to be accomodated by pro players. The only thing Naniwa is guilty of is lack of professionalism, but as hes retiring; its pretty irrelevant for him (last day at work mentality).

I have to agree with obsidia here.

There was no contract or deal made between you (the fans) and Naniwa (the player), so he is sort of right in what he says. He never asked for anything that his viewers or even fans gave him, so he should not feel obligated to "give them" anything. Obviously, it would be nicer to the community if he played things a bit smoother, but hey, he's done with the game, and this is a nice way to seal his fate with it!

He owes his fans all the money, trips and experiences he got. Without them he would be just another nobody, with a bad attitude problem.

He does owe fans one thing, respect. As both an player and a human being. The people who watched, follow and cheered for him are owed at the very least his respect, nothing more, or less.
If all men were created equal there would be no reason to declare it.

because without fans providing eyeballs and paying for subs, sponsors would not pay money to support players, and tournaments would not exist. DUH. like seriously, how dense do you have to be to not even see that. naniwa just digging his own grave further. if i were an employer, i would never hire him for a job either, he has a shit attitude.

now stop trying to defend his bitch made behavior. the only disgusting thing here are his actions.

It's weird how David Kim in his reddit Q&A says that blizzard is balancing with caution as pro-gamers lives are on the line, when so many pro-gamers are complaining about the state of the game in unison. It just goes to show how out of touch the Blizzard is with the Starcraft 2 community.

People wonder why the sc2 community is 'negative', well being a long time can of sc2 for 3 years it's so infuriating when you ask for really simple things that can be fixed, such as improved social interaction in the sc2 client, fixing the monstrosity that is the arcade, improved support for ESPORTS, more tools for observers, and you keep hearing excuses for why it can't be done while other newer games blitz into the scene and get it right.

It makes me really sad to see Naniwa's current toxic mentality. There were a lot of people that supported Naniwa throughout his career (I got to meet and play vs him at an MLG and thought he was a pretty cool person IRL and became a fan), but his focus is on the people who shit talk him and he lashes out against them, causing him to get more people who dislike / shit talk him ect. I really feel like he brought all this negativety surrounding him upon himself, because if you just spend your time thanking those fans who appreciate what you do rather than complaining about those who dont you'll get more postive and less negative feedback over time. He's such a hard working person it really makes me sad for him to walk away from this community feeling like his effort has been wasted except for the money he has earned.

I find the games them self to be the biggest issue. How fun is it to watch PvT nowadays ? The only fun is that terran is the underdog. Also, FF and Timewarp so frustrating to watch, renders micro of the other part useless.
I have given up on this game a long time now, but I still have hope that it can be better.

Naniwa isn't the first to say that this community is disgusting. I think the community is what it is, because it's a symptom of our fucking frustration with watching the games.

He'll be back for LotV, I'm sure for that.

Of course, the game is broken and not as fun to play/ watch like it used to be.
And he is mad about this issue. Blizzard doesn't seem to care.
Some people annoyed him.

He simply exploded. Happens to everyone in life.
And everyone who takes his posts from the weekend personally: get over it.

Naniwa plays for himself. It's not like the post is something new.
Seeing someone explode could even help the community.

Or how schizophrenic the commuity is - not too long ago we were the ones clamoring for small balance changes and letting the meta balance the game, and now...?

my team gave me a great contract, its not about money for those who wonder. i am taking a break untill i get motivation back but if that doesnt happen then ofcourse i wont continue. i just dont like the game anymore and i feel like blizzard will take a super long time to fix it. i am tired of complaining about it so instead i just choose this instead

Apparently it wasn't about "lives [...] on the line". Naniwa just wasn't satisfied with the game anymore. And as many here are claiming that he doesn't owe anything to the audience or the community, etc. then I guess Blizzards doesn't owe him anything either. If he doesn't like to play anymore then he should have said goodbye without making himself unpopular.
