Yep, I agree. They made it clear with Nyph and they would make a bigger deal out of it, if MC left I think.
I wonder will he continue career :D Guess, he has nuff money already. But it's not hard for MC to get personal sponsorship again with his personality.
And yes, as answer to OP, SK really dropped Ocelote, Nyph to [A], MC and some other guys.
And as one more thing - i don't think that MC will join big team after being literally one-man-fighting for 12 months. So, personal sponsorship is only way.

I'm skeptical, I think this could have just been a poorly worded article by someone who doesn't have the best control over english. It'd be weird not to release a press statement saying they were dropping MC and to just give him some super political paragraph in a end of the year 2 page long wrap up.

And if someone really doubts it, Nyph was going to join [A] month ago and Ocelote was going to make team with Chaox but visa issues prevailed again. They were just helping SK to protect their spot in LCS.
I guess, SK might either focus on just lol and get another CS:GO roster with upcoming EMS, or they will get dota squad finally. But seems like they're done with sc2. >> It is time for both, SK and MC, to move on and see what the future holds.
I've heard some people say that MC will have trouble getting a team . . .
Talk about over dramatic pessimism. This guy is so marketable he'll get a team in a heartbeat. He's probably the most marketable Korean SC2 player, period.

Your source is the same as the one given in the OP? Yah, good one. (btw, I share your interpretation of the article but that doesn't clear the ambiguity of the source)
On December 31 2013 05:48 Seeker wrote: The question is, did MC leave on his own or was he released?
Released implies they took an 'out' in his contract.
It's more likely that he simply was only signed through Dec 2013, and they didn't choose to renew his contract to the new year. They bought MC when he was one of the best in the world and before LoL and DotA 2 took off. Now he's not the best in the world and SK Gaming has always been more invested in games that weren't RTSes (they only had small support for WC3/SC2 compared to their support for WoW/FPSes/MOBAs), so it doesn't make sense to renew his contract at the same rate as before.

I don't think he's the most marketable korean sc2 player. He's marketable, but tbh I forget he exists sometimes because you don't hear much about him.

What about ATC? That exists just fine, EG just chooses not to participate
Well, they aren't showing signs of wanting to participate. I'm still sticking with the idea that EG's plans for sc2 in 2014 is promote the hell out of Jaedong in individual tournaments and keep the cheap foreigners for streaming and shit.
Incontrol clearly said they're not replacing aLive, Oz and Revival.

If I will guess, I say acer makes most sense to me, they dont have any protoss players and MC can do the Innovation and start his comeback in a foreign team, I think it will help him to bring back the MC we all loved to see in WoL.

That still does not make ATC exist any less...
I know. Don't take offence in what I said. I acknowledge ATC is a good teamleague. Just like Proleague is one as well. Doesn't make EG seem interested in them anyway. That's why I sigh at people expecting EG to recruit players for teamleagues they don"'t want to play in.
when I reconsider things over again I feel like MC might not want to leave Europe so he might stay playing for Acer or other foreign team but who knows if he just doesnt want to return back to Korea (but I dont think so)
come on guys, MC would be a treasure for EG with all his popularity and fanbase

haha, but seriously.. I think this will be good for MC... It seems like he hasn't really been too involved in the Korean scene lately due to being partnered with SK. Not only for other foreign teams to offer, but also to go back to the classic Korean grind which may benefit him. I mean... his real "big results" were about that long ago. I hope the best for him!

I doubt it would happen but I would just LOVE to see MC on Acer. A bit unfair to call MC a personality. He made the top 16 of WCS Finals, essentially meaning he's in the top 16 in the world in rankings terms. He had five top 4 finishes in Premier Events in 2013 and came 2nd in WCS EU twice.
He's not the best Protoss in the world anymore but he's still an extremely good player who would definitely get results at foreign events and in WCS NA/EU seen as so many Koreans are still on Kespa teams playing mostly in Korea.
Not to mention he's also really marketable and has a big personal fanbase whilst actually being good, which is pretty rare in Sc2.

Pretty much, i don't think SC2 is to attractive for sponsors atm, just look at the stream numbers, most of the time they are lower than many casual games and the main events have less viewers than single streamers in LoL and so on. I don't wanna bash SC2, but times look really grim.

They've lost both MC and ocelote, who's left to be the face of their brand... candypanda?
Wow, I'm surprised to see a team let a player like MC go. He is such a great all-around personality for SC2 and esports. I'm sure he will find a new home or perhaps he could join one-man-army's with Grubby...
For sure MC will defend his spot in WCS EU - I think he said that much in an interview with regards to a possible regional lock -so my bet is that he will relocate to EU one way or another. You guys figure out what team he'll play for, because from a visa point of view, he'll likely need an employer rather than go solo.

There's no sense in denying that SC2 is not as big/popular as it was in the 2010/2011 days, and it'll probably not increase drastically until the next expansion is release but just because it's not as popular as it once was does not mean it's doing badly. It's consistently in the top 3 for streamed games on twitch each month and it's numbers are very consistent compared to those other 'casual' games you mentioned (just look at how much hearthstone has fluctuated in it's short time on Twitch). Also the comparisons to LoL continue to be ridiculous since LoL is so massively popular right now and is a distant first to even its closest rival, Dota 2. It's like comparing American football to tennis "Monday night football pulls in more views than the French Open final, tennis is dying".

esport != physical sport.
That's not really the point though. The point is that the scale of the comparison is completely different. Even though tennis is much smaller than American football, it's still big enough to sustain itself.

Tennis have long history behind it to sustain itself due to its positive image. Video games that end up being called as esports eventually turns into fads because of player's unability to support themselves in the 30s just by playing video games due to lack of funding. Because of this reason, the industry is EXTREMELY fragile to be in and VERY generational such as CS, Quake, BW, WC3 laying the road (although to my elder's knowledge, there were arcade tournaments before) for new games such as DotA2, LoL, and WoT. Physical sports have never been "replaced" by a generation of games. Until a game becomes timeless and irreplaceable, an esport industry will always age to the point of death in a professional sense.

maybe EG - would fit well for them at least.. maybe Acer - need a toss and why not join Inno+MMA for some fun, making a very strong team and more success :-)
Good to see he has found a new team already, MC the boss toss will prove he still has it to be at top level.
He wouldn't leave SK unless he already had a better offer.
It is the same with the 2 LoL players. Basically contracts ran out and SK was unable to hold their 3 most valuable players (dunno about the FIFA guy). Huge loss for them, not for the involved players. Looking really bad for SK now.
with EG releasing that many players recently, i could suspect that both Bomber & MC joins EG and with having Jaedong already, they pretty much have their dream team (they are both good koreans & popular koreans)
KT and Jin Air have the fewest protos in their rosters. Which is 3 each, so they would be the teams who might want him from KESPA. However i think he will stay as a foreign team as he likes to compete in foreign events more. However i would like him in Pro League because he would bring awesome ceremonies :D

Yeah but his depression/personal issues held him back alot in sc2. Also I imagine MC would want a mad salary or would he make enough off tourney money to be satisfied?

He doesn't really fit the Liquid style I think tho.
What's the Liquid style?
According to "Liquid Rising" - Liquid doesn't sign players who's brand is bigger than that of Liquid. Which is why you would see someone like say - TaeJa - who was a relatively unknown at the time he was signed - but you wouldn't see a Bomber or an MC.

This. They're a German-based company afaik, so it would make sense for MC to be in Germany if he joined their team. On top of that, XMG said they'd be picking up a famous player in January 2014. Plus with XMG sponsoring EG, Alliance, Mouz, and HSC, they seem to have a budget to support a player like MC.
this, or mouz. ESC can't affort him, also can't ATN. Don't think any other team really has that many players in germany besides them. And Liquid isn't going to hire anyone else I think, although it would be the best fit imho. Beside Hero they don't have any good toss left with tyler gone.

Tyler was indeed a good player. He happened to get shafted by the switch from BW to SC2 and some of his own personal health problems. But even then he was successful in his day, which, granted, ended long before he was released from Liquid.

He was a very good FOREIGN BROOD WAR player. But even in BW, he was largely irrelevant in Korea. Never really found success in SC2 other than in 2010 IMO.
I think joining a new team isb good news, Mc Has said himself that he gets lazy when being alone in his team, so playing in a good team like EG, Liquid, or even mouz together with Dear] can give us the Mc who crushed people and made himself the most succesful player in Sc2.
I guess he will not join any foreign team because WCS destroyed TeamCompetetions all together and PL is all Korean again. If the mindset of Kespa teams has not changed (training shedule and living conditions) MC might not want to go back from "international Superstar" to Team Workhorse.

What about TLO und HuK?! I think since HuK left TL, TL do this way like you said.

TLO and HuK had small profiles before being recruited by TL. TLO showed a lot of promise in the SC2 EU Beta TL Invitational but those were very early days.

HuK just won the first MLG tournament before he was picked up.

You can argue hours about what makes you a star in sc2, but winning one big tournament (with 0 koreans in it, granted Korea was not as strong as it is today) does not do that in my book. At that time, HuK was still playing in all the small online tournaments like go4sc2. He definitely became huge after TL signed him, but I didn't see him as THAT big a player when he joined them.

Yeah MC prefers playing at home anyways so him joining a KESPA team would be unlikely.
