Man leave it to the internet hate machine to get mad over someone gold digging and getting called on it.

ROOT does so much for inspiring players and up and comers. Before Puck joined he was no where near as successful as he is now. He finally has made a huge break and he sees this as an opportunity to make more money. ROOT brought him up but when the money doesn't come he leaves. While none of you find this morally objective, I do. I wouldn't turn my back on my friends/family for a paycheck.

Without any statement we are not left with much to thin, besides he is leaving them for money. If he has different reasons then hopefully someone reveals them.

But I guess greed runs rampant around this parts.

You could compare this to young promising Finnish ice hockey players that are brought up in Finnish junior clubs and who end up going to NHL. This never happens and people are against that, right? Um no, actually it's considered a pretty large honor and it's very normal / expected ;S

You can compare it anything you want. The fact is he isn't going to some team, and ROOT is not some junior club. There are very few American teams who can claim to be better then ROOT. These teams also don't pay out huge for players, excluding Liquid and EG, which are very unlikely to sign him.

A team that doesn't have the funds to pay their players, and had to ask the community for donations to create a gaming house is what I would call a junior club. It's not that their players are bad or anything they're just not a well funded team.

Wasn't he their best player?

I've always seen ROOT as a progaming halfway house, so it's not surprising people would move on. I'm sure Catz would like to be making that EG money (for the team, pay his friends/players, etc), but I don't think he's motivated to put in that much effort to achieve it (or risk it not working out).

Yeah with this guy. Any team running of donations / not self sustaining is amateur league.

Everyone does this in any serious line of work anyway. Anytime an individual becomes worth more than their company / boss / team will pay him, it's in their best interest to leave or you stop growing in whatever you do.

Have you ever changed company in your life? If you have, then well yeah......

Gold diggin is forming a relationship to get money from that relationship without any hard work yourself. This is not gold diggin - don't demean a Pro when you have no idea of his background and intentions.

The more correct term is a sell-out, but you think these programers are raking in tons of money, that they being greedy? Get off you righteous indignation and go complain in another forum that maybe has some more substance, like celebrities or sports stars.

Wow can you link me to this definition of gold-digging. Im sorry kanye didn't realize you posted on TL. I'm allowed to make pass any judgement I want.

I don't like his intentions, get over it.

do you feel the same about young free agents in sports who leave to get more money after a small town team develops them in their minor league system? because that's standards sports business. hell, it's standard business. being a big talent's "first job" doesn't entitle you to their whole career in almost any field.

Okay, I was going to limit myself from posting anything really in this thread but you have absolutely no fucking clue what you're talking about. I am absolutely disgusted with people like you in this community. You preface your post as if to say you know what you're talking about when you clearly don't know jack shit about Puck and probably many other players you post about.

Let me enlighten you: Puck was a top 16 GM player since BEFORE CONVERGENCE GAMING. Do you even comprehend that sentence? That's like 2011. So what the fuck are you talking about? Sure, he's been with ROOT a while, and sure, they've most certainly helped Puck out in many ways but to say that he OWES them something is your lack of understanding of what a contract is. It's a mutually beneficially agreement not only for Puck, who himself stated that he may even return to ROOT, but for ROOT gaming itself. So to say he's turning his back on the team is simply due to your own stupidity and makes you look like a complete prick.

Looking out for ones own well-being and the pursuit of a decent living does not equate to greed. If I had the power I'd surely ban people like you for spewing so much hate that has come into this community since SC2 because you lack any basic logic, shame, or reason.

Basically, fuck off.

People need to eat in the real world. Puck is playing this game as a job, not to make random people on the internet happy. If he thinks other team out there are willing to pay higher for what he has to offer and his contract is up, then why shouldn't he be able to move on? People change jobs all the time. If i was working at mcdonald and i got offered a new job somewhere else that pays more, why shouldn't i take it? It's not like Puck is never going to talk to the Root guys again, he's just switching team not shunning his old team mates. Without money, how will he pays for his electricity bill and eat? Root doesn't own Puck, slavery was banned a long time ago.

It's not all black and white .. In this case, considering ROOT's finances, I think he made the right decission in order to sustain himself from playing this game ( although no new team was announce, as far as I know ).
However, if ROOT was a more financially stable team and he would have left to another team for 10-20% raise, I would call that greedy too :-)

The idea of using the term "gold digging" to describe someone like Puck is... laughable. I can't even fathom this being a remotely serious comment but I guess an idiot is born every second.

Puck ows ROOT? Huh? For what? It's just a smart move to ditch the ROOT name. Same with Nathanias. It's more of a liability and a signal of unprofessionalism than anything else.

Think you're all forgetting that him and Minigun wasn't friends which lead to them moving away from eachother in the house, then they played in PL so they prob had a argument, and we all know CatZ loves Minigun more so Puck was the one who had to go
