The Season III Up/Down matches continued to produce some surprising results, as former GSL champion ST_Life was banished to Code A for the following season. Without a chance to earn a substantial amount of WCS points, this effectively eliminates the Zerg prodigy from the WCS World Finals at Blizzcon as well.
On the other hand, KeSPA had a good night as CJ_herO[jOin] and SKT_soO advanced through their group. herO advanced on his own merits, going 3 - 1 on the back of some strong PvT performances, only dropping a game to Life. Meanwhile, soO had to rely on a combination of skill and luck, with his 2 - 1 record enough to secure his advancement due to the complicated head-to-head situation.
Sad for Life but I think with him winning Ritmix RSL and beating Bomber (who is doing really well in WCS KR atm) shows that he is not down and out and hopefully will recover! On the other hand I hope soO does well in the last season!
Life will be back. It's disappointing how he is playing but he did just win RSL. I was hoping for some moves out of Bang, as him Dream, and Super are the new faces of MVP.
Appreciate the updates Wax, but the 'hide spoilers' option on the TL homepage isn't hiding this. (EDIT: And it's fixed. Thanks!)
Life was not looking good in those games. Even his ling/drone micro wasn't there (particularly against Byun). Sad to see him falling off and I hope he bounces back.

As much as I would like to see RSL as a sign of his upswing, you should take that win with a grain of salt. It was all offline, Bomber's TvZ is his weakest matchup and they're teammates. He had a lot of trouble with MMA and Scarlett, who are both not Code S level right now and his offline results (losses in GSTL/WCS to hyvaa, soO, Byun, Genius, with the only notable wins being against jjakji, who hasn't been Code S for over a year and a bo1 against herO) show next to no sign of improvement.

In terms of WCS rankings eSF is doing better than Kespa with only four players in top 16.
Unless I'm missing something, eSF also has 4 players in the top 16. Mvp, Bomber, Maru, Symbol.
Personally the distinction means very little to me these days because it got kinda confused between players like Parting joining KeSPA teams and EG-Liquid joining Proleague, but as I understand it, there are 4 KeSPA player, 4 eSF players and 5 (6 before Stephano retired) EG-Liquid players. And ForGG and Alicia.
Clearly, EG-Liquid is the next Zerg Bonjwa.
'Course, if EG_Liquid counts as KeSPA with their participation in Proleague, they win pretty dominantly 9 players to eSF's 5 (Axiom-Acer was in GSTL).

Life made one big mistake versus Byun and couldn't recover. Other than that, Life's zvz is his worst match-up, his wins against effort/bang showed that he's still good. Even when Life is in a slump he's one of the best, scary. Sad to see Byun not getting Code S but that just seems to be the story of the Prime players atm Still hoping MKP will get his Nestea-award =)

Widow mines, that's what happened.
Poor Life, they are comparing him to MMA lol
It was just a few months before when people were calling Life some Genius Savant who figured out how to disarm Widow Mines with lings...
I'm not sure what's wrong with him either, he still has moments of outstanding micro and it's summer, so he should be out of school and have plenty of time to play.
He's still got a really good mentality (I think anyways) when it comes to handling his nerves / pressure.
But, his micro seems to fail him and I can't say for sure, but it feels like he's abandoned his early game aggression. I dunno, something's off with him for sure.
ByuN played like a boss. I think he is a better player than SoO personally (especially from what I saw with Roach/Bane all-ins) and I would have preferred to see him advance. Bang played soooo uselessly. He was by far the absolute worst player, even throwing in a sad cheese in his final game. Life played good, just wasn't good enough. Hero played amazing.

Life != all of eSF. I wish people would stop acting as if he is.
Kind of ticked me off that Life and Kespa got all the attention early in HotS, while upcoming talents and hardworking players who were on top in WoL and still on top in HotS (Symbol) from eSF got overshadowed.
5/8 of the ro8 in OSL was eSF, not to mention Bogus and Soulkey just got beat by Supernova(almost knocked Rain out too) and Maru. Two guys nobody would've thought would be able to put a dent in anything this season.

Yeah, players such as Symbol, Bomber, Supernova, First and Maru sure have problems keeping up

We'll just get it out of the way that the rankings treat points earned in WCS_AM and WCS_EU equally to points earned in WCS_KR. Which probably matters less than people think since you all 3 regions are full of Koreans anyways. But I'm sure someone will bring this point up.

Let's not forget dream going on a KeSPA killing spree to get through to premier league without needing up and down (RorO and Fantasy even though he's weakest at TvT) And having smoked Rain before.
Oh come one Life. How can he go from looking like he is going to be the next Flash to this. *sigh*.
Is there is one thing that gets tiresome in the SC2 scene is that there is no consistency among the players. It feels like almost any pro Korean player can win Code S at any point in time.
Coincidence or not, since the arrival of Kespa, I think there is more consistency in the results post-Kespa than pre-Kespa (Inno, SK, Bomber, Symbol). This season, the real surprise is Maru, taking out both Symbol and Inno. Rain has always been a top dog, just that he slumped slightly in WCS (his proleague form is stellar).
Let's not get into esF vs Kespa debate. But I think it's safe to say that the arrival of Kespa has brought out the best of all pro players, by and large.

Innovation is ridiculously consistent:
Ro4 GSL 2012 Season 5 (WoL) Ro8 GSL 2013 Season 1 (WoL) 3rd MLG Winter Championship Ro4 2013 Asian Indoor-Martial Arts Games Qualifier 2nd GSL WCS 2013 Season 1 1st WCS Season 1 1 of 2 Koreans qualified for IEM Shanghai (but didn't go to the main event because of Proleague finals) Ro4 OSL WCS 2013 Season 2 Ro8 WCG Korea Qualifiers (ongoing) 3rd most wins overall in Proleague, on the team that won it
Sure he's had a few disappointing series like the 0-4 to Maru and the reverse sweep vs Soulkey, but you can't deny his insane consistency. I think the only HotS tournament he's actually done bad in is the MLG Dalls KeSPA online qualifier.

Funny to see all these fools write of Life. The kid is a prodigy. He may not be bringing in the results, but he's still one of the best. The nature of the game is volatility, everyone goes through these periods.

This notion used to frustrate me as well, but it's something you come to accept. Almost all of these Korean pros are at a really similar skill level. You're statement isn't entirely untrue...
And I know it's hard to admit, but the game still involves luck as a major factor. And there are too many ways to lose. Like I said, volatile.

I was telling this months ago, but nobody give a damn, bash me instead, they continue to hype that one player on top at the moment. There are hundreds of players who can win championship when they are extremely hot, and there are thousands of players who can win a Bo 3 against best player in the world at the moment, in Korea ofc.
Give some love for those average Korean pros, they need it, not those on top.

Inno's consistency is almost nearing the 1-year mark. I don't think anyone has been this consistent in the entire brief history of SC2. To me, he has already overtaken Nestea and MVP in terms of sustaining the longest streak of consistency (Nestea - much shorter, MVP - fluctuates in hitting rock bottom and top gear throughout 2011-2013).
the funny thing is that he won Ritmix V vs Bomber in the finals and (like Mvp) he is only good in bo5/7's and just fails in the early groupstages(like Mvp) i still find the Life is an awesome zerg and still in the TOP 5 zergs atm :D
he has his "ups and downs"^^. I'm not too worried, he will come back, like others came back before. I have seen Maru losing a lot a couple of months before, now he does things like to 4-0 Innovation, the most impressive player of these days.

Losing to a Prime Terran... Asch, Life
Don't be hatin Zealously. Prime is makin it back.
but... Byun just lost... yes Maru is a beast right now. but its just him. if MKP doesnt make it out of his group, Maru would be the only Code S player for Prime in 2 seasons. also Creator is in Code B...
Considering SC2 is still only 2/3rds complete and being actively balanced, it's not really surprising that there's a lot of turmoil among the top players.

Creator did kind of just drop off the face of the earth, but I believe in the Prime Clan, they make talent, they don't just get it. They'll all be back soon.
In regards to Life, I'm sad because Startales is my favorite team, and he is their ace, but I know he'll come back with an avengance. He's young, skilled, and a true terror whenever he's on his game.
Upon second thought, I'm selfishly grateful for Life not bringing in huge results recently. Means all the faggy bandwagoners will get off his jock and move onto the next flavor of the week.
