Well, there has been some rampant discussion lately about Flash's big announcement on the upcoming Live on Three episode. Some people thought he might be going to a foreign team, but it seems like the mystery might be solved already.
Team Razer has changed their Twitter background with Flash on top, bringing up Flash in their tweets, and even retweeting him saying 'Soon...' on Twitter. While this usually wouldn't confirm that Razer is sponsoring KT Rolster, and that maybe even Razer was building their own team with Flash as their first acquisition, if you look at their background, you clearly see KT Rolster added to the teams that Razer sponsors.
KT's League of Legends teams were already sponsored by Razer early this year, adding sc2 isn't surprising at all. What is surprising is that they're hinting at Flash streaming on twitch.
It is just so amazingly hilarious to me that you think you can throw around 400k+ and think it is okay because you read he made 225k in 2010. Does that make sense in your world?
On June 23 2013 08:13 KirA_TheGreaT wrote: mhhhh, i have the feeling that kt rolster is in the teamrazer page since a few months already.
They have been, as my post early in this thread, they've had the Razer sponsor patch on their team jackets for months now. I'm not sure what this thread is for - did nobody notice they were sponsored?

To be fair I think it is a widespread belief that Flash's salary is 400k, though I can't remember the source (it may have been a completely unrelated interview, that said top players such as Boxer or Nada earn up to 400k or something like that).

I remember people saying Nada was earning 400k, and Flash had a 1mil contract over 3 years. But that could have been just as BS as the claims in this thread.
I swear to god, if Flash streams and nobody fucking records the FPVODs at decent quality (b/c hell will freeze over if the stream even goes online/keeps VODs intact), I will throw my laptop out the window.

Flash managed to pull off $400k during his most dominating year. This figure includes salary (est. $220k) + tournament winnings ($200k), then it became a huge misconception that he was earning $400k as salary.
Also, I highly doubt EG is that rich. They were only able to pick up Jaedong because he was probably unpaid by Team 8, or had a enormous cut in salary. I highly doubt they're paying Jaedong the six figures he used to earn with Hwaseung Oz, they knew the position Jaedong was in, and that he'd probably accept an average A team player's salary + lodging + travel (and possibly performance bonuses)
There's no way that Flash would join EG. He's trying to become the best player in the world and has a great situation on KT to do that. Why would he join a team that requires him to stream and has a worse infrastructure for practice?
If he does start streaming, I honestly doubt it'll be too much. When MKP and Mvp streamed around their prime, they still barely pulled in ~10k. Yeah, Flash might get 20k when he starts. But I doubt it'll ever be higher than a consistent 10k. If it does become like that, then good for eSports.
damnit i really hope they're not gonna make him stream on twitch. i'm a flash fan and i really don't like that. i'd rather just see him play periodically in tournaments, getting surprised by stuff he does. this is just too much.

This. No matter how much money EG could possibly throw at him, I hilariously and highly doubt he would leave his very foundation and life as a progamer; his home of friends and family.

Huh? I think with his name and quality of Terran play, he'd be able to pull in Jaedong+ numbers
Jaedong doesn't pull very good stream numbers tbh But then again flash is a far better sc2 player than JD They should also limit his hours if they want to keep him pulling big numbers, they need to make it feel like a missed opportunity if you didnt get to watch and you will go out of your way to watch next time.

nice find. Would be interesting to see Flash stream but I doubt that he'll maintain crazy high numbers(15k+ I mean). JD has about that when he first started and I think he's like 5k or so at best these days (an estimate). As for his salary, ya, no way Flash is making 400k salary LOL. 200k is more fair and atm, his SCII performance is good but there are better terrans out there so I don't think he'll be making what he was making in his BW days(probably a bit less).
I love Razer and the money and gear they put into our community. It seems weird how their marketing strategy seems to be "SPONSOR EVERYTHING" rather than sponsoring one big team, but whatever works for them works for me!
I need to email them sometime and thank them, as well as show off my deathadder/black widow combo to show my support!

People are overestimating his stream numbers. It's the same as with JD. A lot of hype, once a 10k viewers peak and now only 2k average. Blame times, blame whatever. I expect the same for Flash - 15k at most then only 5k average.
Like it or not, foreigners have more viewers because they interact more with the viewers and there's actually something you learn while watching the player. While watching a korean stream is also a high lvl play, it doesn't answer your questions or tell you their's though process.
So tl;dr not expecting anything higher or close to Stephano's peak stream numbers of 17k.
I don't understand why people think he's going to stream, there has been no indication of that..
And I still don't understand the purpose of this thread. It's even on the main TL page with a question mark in regards to whether Razer is going to sponsor KT. THEY ALREADY DO

Aside from getting into code S, Flash hasn't won anything that can be pointed to as an achievement which is why his salary deserves to stay wherever it was prior to SCII. Once he starts winning GSL/OSL/WCS finals etc... then I can see his salary going up. Having said that, his performance in PL isn't bad so he probably got some bonus from that lol. As for innovation's comment, I think he lacks confidence regardless of what his interviews seem to indicate. He realizes that Flash is a worthy foe so he obviously respects him and his style of play

That makes no sense. It stays the same as it was when he was winning championships in Brood War, but then goes up when he wins something in Starcraft 2?

While I don't agree that he deserves a raise to 3million won a year.. Flash is still doing well in pro league and to KeSPA and KT performance in Pro League is the most important thing, because you're representing the brand and the team more than yourself. Individually, the individual leagues (GSL/OSL/WCS/etc) will obviously get you more fame, but KT could careless as long as you win Pro League. That's why you often see in players interviews that their teams are not giving them sufficient individual league practice because of the pro league focus.

I think he had 225k, it definitely got higher towards 2012. Then they earned more from direct sponsorship and tournament wins. I'd say that brings it to at least 300k, but probably more.

but you really can't have two peripheral sponsors can you? The only team that I can think of with this kind of sponsor is EG with razer and astro. There has to be some kind of agreement between the team and their multiple sponsors right?
Is everyone forgetting about Boxer when he streamed the few times and the internet blew up? As awesome as it was to watch him stream. Similar to JD, stream viewers started to decrease. Obviously the language barrier was a huge reason for a decrease in viewers since Boxer couldn't interact with viewers like most streamers can. Unlike many korean pros, Boxer had a mic and webcam, so there was some interaction, but not much.
With Flash' popularity I'll agree and say the internet will blow up and he'll have a shit ton of viewers, but gradually decrease over time.
KT is on the list, and there are Razer logos on Flash's background on Twitter. So the Razer-KT affiliation is quite obvious.
However, the KT Rolster profile on the Razer website only mentions League of Legends, and not Starcraft 2. It could perhaps be that Flash will be receiving a personal sponsorship from Razer.

400k is a giagantly overestamite. when bw was SUPER populair even boxer and nada only got like 350/300 during their peaks.
with the loss of populairty of sc2 i doubt it will be higher then 200k
Even with 200k, do you believe EG would want to pay ~17000$/month for a player? Also KT can easily outbid EG if Flash would be interested in EG (which I doubt, leaving superior training grounds).
"I'm sponsored by Razer" is not a very interesting announcement. Because he's going Lo3 to make the announcement, I'm positive it's much bigger than that.
Woa what a news ...Razer sponsors other KT-divisions for a while and now they have come to an agreement regarding their premium-Starcraft Team..so what. He only made $400k in a year including tournament wins. His salary wasn't that much.
Including prize money from tournaments it still wouldn't add up to 400000000 won from 225k, OSL/MSL prize money is pretty small.
Flash most likely got big bonuses from winning tournaments, the point is can EG afford to match those bonuses over the course of a year when Flash wins everything, probably not.

So the best sc2 players make around the veteran minimum for the NFL. Average entry level salary is $43,000 in the US with a bachelor's degree. Just food for thought for all the aspiring "pro-gamers" out there.
I hope Korean teams get more exposure to the huge western audience that is out there. Even if they're 'mechanical robots' in every sense of the phrase, it would help IMO.

I guess it is proven by the many Koreans that left their teams to join foreign teams that give out more salary... Stephano is a great example of that right? so is Parting?
I'm not saying there aren't any "pros" that are only in the scene for the passion of the game. (Major is a great example) But saying that salary is at the bottom of their priorities is very naive .

Razer Sparkyz #1 for next PL season!
Flash Cure and TY would be the best terran line up in SPL ._.
Yes, yes it would be.
Btw, other possible names are Razer Oz, Razer HERO, Razer FOX or RazerForce ACE + Show Spoiler +

EG are rich, but i very much doubt they can match what KT pay Flash, Flash is on like 400k + a year salary

We can go ahead and bring back he who will not be named as well right?
I actually sort of hope Flash doesn't stream regularly...if at all. If it'd affect his performance in the long run. If he DID stream...if it was BW I'd be down to watch all day
I don't get this at all. Nothing new in Razer sponsoring KT, their LoL team been sponsored for a couple of months now, its only logic that they will sponsor their sc2 team too. We also saw KT players with the Razer logo on their new jackets in PL. Also, who said he's going on Lo3 for a "big announcement"? I bet he's only going to say that he will now stream on twitch (like his twitter is saying) sometimes and that is far from a "big announcement" IMO. It would be cool, but not big. Lastly, the picture of Flash on the Team Razer twitter is now gone.

And what team could afford to pay him a significantly higher salary? He's not going to leave KT for a few extra bucks. You'd have to pay him at least 50% more.

Damn you must read minds to know what flash wants. Any chance you can tell me some other things about anything else you can gleam from other minds?
It would be cool if flash streamed though, I would definitely tune in the first couple of times at least assuming it really does happen.
Just an online interview with fans via twitch tv - no mention of his actual game streaming. Also, it doesn't say whether this is just one time deal or a scheduled occurrence from now on, although it does seem to imply that it's just this one time per the request of razor.
LOL Flash won't join a foreign team. He wants to reach BW-Flash level God mode again and earn more money that way, and no foreign teams could possibly help him with that.

Lol if this turns out to be just a one time ama on twitch, talk about a massive overkill on the hype. Though I guess from kespa's perspective, they would see this as a big deal.

Its 8a.m. Korean time, not p.m. 오전 = a.m. Probably to make it easier for people in NA and Europe to view. (Ok maybe not europe)

Nope, you have to pay him a little bit more or even match the salary and he is out. Why would he stay in that concentration camp called KeSPA when he can travel all around the world and actually be a star.

1) He is a star...? 2) Because he wants to be the best player in the world. He can accomplish this on KT. Could he accomplish this on EG? 3) Stop acting like you can read his mind.

im sorry but no korean team would ever pay that much for a player. Only at his height in brood war did he probably near what the top foreigners make salary wise. not to mention you dont sound very certain "HE IS ON LIKE 1 BILLION A DAY"

There was a translated article that stated he made over $400k in 2010. In 2010 he made 6 OSL/MSL finals if you average $30k per appearance (this is roughly what they were paid, but my recollection is a bit shaky at this point) that gives at least a $220k salary from KT in 2010. Some of that definitely included bonus because of winning 2009-2010 PL finals (KT is best KT!).
though I dont use much of their products, I must admit razer is awesome for sponsoring so many esports teams. It'd be awesome for KT if they got the sponsorship!

that's hardly a secret that top broodwarers made that much in the heyday but times are tougher now in korea, sc2 less popular, and the teams are tightening their belts.
Razer sponsoring Flash not KT. Also you would think this would be some sort of conflict for most companies sponsoring your own competition, but at least every win can be attributed to your keyboard and mouse combo.

First off, regarding brieN's original comment about them not making anywhere near the top foreigners salary wise. That's just false.
I remember ESFI reporting Stephano making $8k a month in salary and Parting got something like $70 k for 8 months IIRC for SKT. (feel free to correct me since I'm too lazy to dig up original sources).
While it isn't going to be 200k/year salary for TBLS. I'd say the top few Korean pros are still doing quite well comparatively (not as well obviously). It still sucks bad for the lower end players of course, but it has always sucked for them.

Does this mean Razer will actually make a mechanical keyboard other than the Blackwidow and it will come with brown switches? Or will he just use the Blackwidow Stealth? :/ I just don't like the Blackwidow. Actually, he might just get a Blackwidow Tournament Edition and go with the blue switches unless Razer makes a custom one for him... >< Hope Razer makes more switch options for their mechanical keyboard (having more options for mechanical keyboards from them would be nice too).
Depending on the size of the sponsorship potentially a bad thing. The big thing KESPA Brought to the table was significant support by the major brands in Korea. Without that... eh they're less appetizing and put the foreign viewer in a worse spot.
As much as I'd love it, I have to go with the guy a few pages back who said "Flash will never stream. Period."
As to the razer or zowie debate : Imho I don't really care as long as they put in halfway decent CherryMX switches and don't fuck up the wiring completely which neither one company did. ...I liked the old black KT jersey better btw. They can switch back now with the green Razer logo.
