About Hong Kong:
+ Show Spoiler +

Hong Kong is a unique meeting place for East and West, blending Chinese heritage, British colonial influences, high-tech modernity and Cantonese gusto. Chinese and English are the official languages. English is widely used in the Government and by the legal, professional and business sectors. Hong Kong has among the highest population density in the world. Moreover, Hong Kong has become a world-class financial, trading and business center. Skyscrapers and temples, shopping malls and traditional markets sit side by side. However, amid the urban hustle there are quiet parks and green spaces, beaches and mountain-top views. The city has one of the best, if not the best, skyline of any city and it is alive 24/7. Visas are not normally needed prior to departure for most nationals making Hong Kong one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Hong Kong, Asia’s World City!

It asks you for your ladder rank/league when you sign up, but the qualifier is still far off. Will your current rank be the decider or your rank when the qualifier is happening?

As long as you live in the area, then you can compete for that qualifier.

The ladder rank on July 30th will be used to determine the rank/seeding. The rank on the sign-up sheet just helps us out logistically.

Lol there might be WoT there, but not as a feature game

Now my immediate concern is the lack of SSBB, but thanks for the update.

Side note: Can't wait to see the sc2 qualified players!

The winner of qualifier #6 (The Hong Kong one), will be the WCG 2013 representative for Hong Kong. In order to represent Hong Kong, you have to be a citizen/permanent resident of Hong Kong. Sorry for the confusion. I'll try to update it and make it more clear!

At the bottom of the OP there are instructions. Basically follow the link, like the page, fill out the form (select North America for you) and submit it.

Thankfully they included fight/lodging, so players hopefully won't be competing at a loss (aside from 1st/2nd place).

10k/2k/650 is a bit of a drastic change in prize money though. "I got third at the Hong Kong E-Sports tournament.. for $650/$13k"

Awesome. Prize pool for SC2 isn't super high, but considering you are paying for flights and accommodations it is totally worth it for players to go. I really like the diversity of players that are going to be there based on this qualification system :D

Guys, don't you see what this means?

1) Warp Prism buffed
2) Hong Kong Starcraft tournament.
3) JUST LOOK AT THAT WILDCARD FLAG.

The PRISM is buffed. The U.S. government is behind this and using this whole thing as a clever, elaborate, expensive ruse to capture and take down Robert Snowden, the NSA leaker who is hiding in Hong Kong!

That being said, should be an exciting tournament.

I always believed China to be the next El Dorado for esports.Large population, huge stream numbers, many interested sponsors people with money willing to invest, many talented gamers. It is a shame that the Chinesse community isnt that connected with the rest of the sc2 world.Would be nice to have some sort of world starcraft federation that would bring all communities together.imagine the posibilitties

The scheduling has already been thought out and written out, but nothing is set in stone yet. There are basically two stages, the smaller one in the foyer, and the larger one in the auditorium. The scheduling has been done such that we utilize both stages (along with the other 4 games, as much as possible) while providing reasonable time buffers and breaks for players and casters alike. A 8 player bo3/double elim tournament can be conducted comfortably in one day. I can post a tentative schedule if people want me to.

I agree that the prize pool should be more evenly distributed. First place gets five times more than second! Even GSL isn't that crazy.

Oh well, only reinforces the large income inequality gap that is characteristic of Hong Kong's capitalistic economy

Will there be qualifiers for the other game titles to have teams fly over and compete? For example, is there a qualifier for FIFA or LoL for SEA residents?

75% of the total prize pool for first place seems kind of silly. Especially since many players will have to make expensive trips.

The flights and hotels are covered already. How would you guys distribute it? 100,000 HKD (~13,000 USD) in total among 8 players.

2nd place: 20,000
3rd-4rth place: 7500
5th-8th place: 3750

Keep in mind, because of the double elimination format, it would be like this:

3rd:
4th:
5th/6th:
7th/8th:

Yours is suitable for single elim.

nice. but, "priority given based on ladder rank" might be a problem if they do not account for the different tears of the divisions.

200k for 5 games and sc2 only gets 13k Wonder if other games publishers are adding to the pot or something.

That is rather interesting, especially considering it would cost more for them to fly out LoL and CS players + accommodations since they are team games.

Just curious what exactly makes up the entire 200k USD prize that's described in the OP. According to the site, the total cash prize across all games is ~80k USD if add the prize pool from all games. I'm assuming the cash listed on there is total for the game and not what first place takes home. Is 'other prizes' a blanket statement to include air travel, hotel, etc for players going to the event or something else?

This seems very cool either way but reading 200k total prize money then not being able to see what makes up that 200k seems kinda off compared to other tournaments imo.

As for 13k seeming low as a few people have pointed out, SC2 is still the 2nd largest cash prize pool behind LoL which is still just under 65k prize, roughly 13k per player.

This is great, though I'm not so sure about giving priority in signing up to players with higher ladder rank....
There's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep trying till you run out of cake.

75% of the total prize pool for first place seems kind of silly. Especially since many players will have to make expensive trips.

The flights and hotels are covered already. How would you guys distribute it? 100,000 HKD (~13,000 USD) in total among 8 players.

1st place: 50,000
2nd place: 20,000
3rd-4rth place: 7500
5th-8th place: 3750

Keep in mind, because of the double elimination format, it would be like this:

1st:
2nd:
3rd:
4th:
5th/6th:
7th/8th:

Yours is suitable for single elim.

1st: 40,000
2nd: 20,000
3rd: 12,000
4th: 8,000
5th/6th: 6,000
7th/8th: 4,000

That information differs from the official site information linked in the OP http://hkesports.com/games/ . Assuming ESFI's numbers are correct since its closer to the advertised 190k total, I'd assume FIFA gets the same as SSFIV and CSGO at $1288, bringing it to a grand total of $81,664, still well shy of the 190k. FIFA is listed on the official site as getting the same prize as SSFIV.

Business class round trip. :o
Though I think the players wouldn't have minded if the trip was just economy class with the excess money being poured into the prize pool. ^.^"

Only 2.5 days left to register for the event! I made a post about this on reddit as well: http://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/1iw2cs/25_days_left_to_signup_for_the_1st_hong_kong/

I have updated some of the casters as well as the qualifier dates/times and the map pool.

I like how they're using the money. Cover travel/stay so you aren't discouraging players from participating.

Too bad Jim's out.

they most likely didn't show up for the match and the website probably doesn't allow a "bye" so random numbers were put in.

Hey StimmedProbe, I can't read Chinese but according to the last post on HK Esports' FB page it seems like the wild card has been attributed to... Rossi? The runner-up of SEA qualifiers? With all the big names it was possible to vote for it looks a bit surprising.

https://www.facebook.com/HongKongEsports?ref=profile

I also understand SC2 Ro8 is planned at 8.00 in the morning?
