Preparations for the upcoming Intel Extreme Masters Season VIII are well underway and confirming the global eSports tour’s stops in Shanghai and New York City emphasizes the uniqueness of the Intel Extreme Masters: it’s global aspect.
On July 25-28, 2013, we will see the world’s best gamers gather in Shanghai, China to open the season at China’s most important game show ChinaJoy.
The second stop will take place in New York City, USA on October 10-13, 2013 at Comic-Con. It will be the 6th ever Intel Extreme Masters event on US soil and the third one at the New York Comic-Con.
I think most people expected that the poll wouldn't actually decide where IEM decided to go, but this announcement makes it extremely unlikely that IEM will go to Gamescom this year.

other people have pointed this out already but, if you look at this image: https://bnetcmssea-a.akamaihd.net/cms/content_folder_media/I4LGB91MXDSK1364953095453.jpg
Gamescom (August 21-25) almost aligns with the bar for "season 2 finals" - and iirc EU gets to host the season ii finals... did I mention gamescom is in cologne, and ESL is HQ'd in cologne? someone in germany call up gamescom and check if turtle entertainment has a booth booked :D
also the fake facebook poll was the lamest marketing campaign ever, carmac should have to wear some kind of embarassing costume as penance

Well i think we will see ESL there. But they will most likely doing WCS and LCS there not IEM.

Yea, nobody saw that coming ;P

So, I heard Comic-Con was pretty bad to hold it in because entry tickets are $70?
|
Haha, awesome. I wouldn't have thought they'd hold it in both were it not for the complications with the poll.

$65, and multi-day passes are ALREADY sold out (http://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/Buy-Tickets/)
but, isn't it that the same case with gamescom, and every other trade show anyway? besides katowice I don't think iem has ever been at a dedicated esports venue
what do they do at gamescom and hannover anyway?

Comic con again? I really want to go to a live SC2 event but it's kind of expensive, and all the tickets are sold out. Do multi-day tickets usually restock? Otherwise, I might go for the grand finals, but that's it.

anyway it woulda been nice to have the announcement before may 15 when the multi-day tickets went on sale, but logistics is what it is

Hopefully going to be good. I don't remember every IEM as very good, but some definitely were if you are expecting some long breaks which AFAIR happened at any IEM. Then again that's understandable, not complaining!

How are you supposed to compete if it's like $160 for the whole event without a multi-day ticket?

Hmm, it's just bad that esports fans and comic fans are competing for tickets and have to pay more. On the other hand, bringing outside people to esports is IEM's shtick, I guess. Most of the time the tickets aren't that highly priced or demanded.
Well, let's just hope there is more hype to this than the last one. Americans aren't really flooeded with events this year.

Turtle Entertainment is in every gamescom. The question is just what there will be.
and hannover anyway?
Cebit wants to concentrate on business visitors this year and they don't host fun and digital lifestyle things anymore. But Intel has already announced that they are looking for a solution to have IEM at Cebit.

That facebook poll looks even more ridiculous now.

I expected that IEM New York will be at Comic-Con, since they would not host an event in New York by themselves. The multi-day passes are sold out since ticket sales were announced in May. Managed to get a Pro-Pass for this event.

Hmm polls on NSAbook are only made to farm followers/likes anyway. So its not all that surprising i guess. Still nice to hear, that they will be in Shanghai.
