DreamHack Open Summer is less than two weeks away and together with our partners EIZO, Logitech G and Kingston HyperX it's time to release the full competitor list for second StarCraft II competition of the year.
DreamHack Open Summer 15-17 June which is taking place on the World's Largest Digital Festival, DreamHack Summer 2013 will bring all StarCraft II-fans some of the best RTS-action ever taken place. Among the competitors are the Runner-up from DreamHack Open Stockholm Alliance NaNiwa and semi finalist Evil Geniuses Jaedong. Returning to DreamHack is the Valencia Invitational Champion from 2011 MVPTeam DRG and DreamHack Open Valencia 2012 Champion Team Liquid TaeJa. Two new faces to the DreamHack audience are the WCS Korea Season 1 semi finalist AZUBU Symbol and the previous GSL-finalist IM Squirtle.
Guiding all StarCraft II fans through the tournament will be no other than the casters Shaun 'Apollo' Clark and Nathan 'Nathanias' Fabrikant and the hosts Geoff 'iNcontroL' Robinson and Dennis 'Take' Gehlen and of course our in-game observer Mike 'Adebisi' Van Driel. You can read more about here.

DieStar, Tefel, Zanster ,NaNiwa, Harstem, MaNa, Squirtle fighting, so many good players and a lot of my favorites and i won't even write them all down because that'd make for a spammy kind of a post. God this is going to be a great weekend
Lots of koreans again.. a nice change from the previous year of DH where it was very few koreans. I like this mix of strong EU players and koreans.. makes for gg's

What bothers me is that it's again really low on the german players side. Has everyone except for XMG +TLO given up participating internationally??
big step for nathanias? :D kinda sad only 2 casters hopefully take and incontrol will cast alot aswell i dont think 2 casters can cast dreamhack all day^^
DRG is in a bad mood, i hope he will perform as well as leenock did at the previous DH. I would be glad to see a better Polt than the one we saw at WCS NA and DH stockolm !
And of course, gogo stephano, needs to win a dreamhack before his retire

I'm pretty sure iNcontroL is scheduled to cast as well, as mentionned in the casters announcement.

Hopefully they do the same thing with NASL this event aswell really enjoyed it, plus they always have alot of other streams from casters not at the event for the earlier stages of the tournament.

Very notable exception. I wonder why he is staying away this year, especially in his current form. I would expect him to fare very well if he attended.

Does´nt MLG still have the exlusive deal with KESPA players?
Parting went to 2 IEM's this year while on SKT, I don't know if that was a special case or what but it seems unlikely that they can only go to MLG's, especially now that MLG is an open bracket with no invites.

Gee, wonder why. Maybe because he's already qualified for DH Winter.

That's a good news. Have you ever work/cast with Nathanias ? (I believe it's his first big offline event, no ?)

But there are WCS points to be gained here. Plus prize money. So I also wonder why HerO is not listed.

I don't include Snute because he's only there for 3 months bud. It's more of a pro longed summer camp than anything else really. He has no intention on staying thus I write him off. He should go far though.

I wish you played more, sir. Also sad that nor Kaelaris and Day[9] are there. My fave casters. <.< Happy for Nathanias though, he surely went a long way, from community caster into official DH caster. Dreamhack will be a blast.

Yeah, seemed like it was a bit small of a caster crew with only two otherwise.
Probably not gonna go in person unless Naniwa is on the finals day.

I kinda wish they had more casters, I don't look forward to listening to nathanias but at least he's getting a shot to prove himself on main stage I guess. Sick line up of players though.

GOGO PiG! hopefully he can turn some heads! :D
Geoff's marketing works again. It's around the same Koreans like any other DH tournament and swamped with our Euro boys. Not only that but guys like Polt won't be going and the rest of the Koreans are pretty mediocre in caliber. I think a lot of the European players are bigger threats than most of these guys and guess what? This is the norm when it comes to Dreamhack tournaments. It's the usual suspects.

I think you are wrong, there are a ton of very good koreans. Ok most of them are underperforming at the moment which doesn't change the fact that they still can pretty much outplay almost any foreign player. Plus there are a lot of those players that have been absent from the scene ever since HOTS release because of one/two series lost, so in two months they might be way better than they appear to be (DRG, Supernova, Sting ...)
But then again, you're saying that Violet, Squirtle or Symbol are mediocre ...

There are 15 Koreans. That number is not unusual for a DH. Almost all of them are on Western teams with a handful from ESF teams. You said it yourself a lot of them are underperforming. Jaedong did just beat PartinG in PL on the biggest map of them all, but I can still write him off because he's still very weak against Euro-style Protoss and there are several very good European Protoss players in this tournament. I already went down the list of all the players. As for DRG, Supernova and Sting. DRG is still slumping. Supernova I cannot comment on because I haven't seen him recently. I'd like to put him in the same breath as GuMiho but even his play as been lackluster. Symbol might be Korea's best shot. As for the rest, nah.
Hell yeah, Dreamhack! If it is as good as the last Dreamhack, then it is going to be an awesome tournament! Good casters and Incontrol aswell, lets hope they have the same DJ aswell
Not really sure why people are disappointed at the Korean line-up. A line-up of DRG, ForGG, HyuN, Jaedong, Squirtle, SuperNova, Symbol, TaeJa, TheStC and viOLet really blows the foreign competition out of the water. Even "slumping" players like DRG, HyuN, Squirtle and SuperNova are capable of winning the tournament if they really practice.
JD, Taeja, Symbol, SuperNoVa, Squirtle, NaNiwa, HuK, GumiHo, violet all in one place zomg. Im surprised JaeDong is going though (since he already got top 4) but w.e, this DreamHack will be awesome =D

DRG is still slumping, but you haven't seen him play in a very long time. He did just lose to Seed in the qualifier for HSC but Seed won the whole thing, so that doesn't look that bad. You can't deny that Squirtle is pretty good, he has had very good results in GSTL, he did not have the best showing in GSL but he was up against ok players and it was the very beginning of HOTS. And Violet did look good so far even if we couldn't watch a RO16 showing.
Symbol is definitely the Korean favorite by watching only GSL results but you have to keep in mind that only one season was played on HOTS, every player improved a lot since their first showing and you can't judge a player on 4 already obsolete games (in case of a loss in RO32). I really feel there is a possibility for strong showing from Supernova, DRG, TheSTC, Gumiho, Hyun or Taeja. Every single one of those players has had good results in code S and was showing great play during a long amount of time, we simply don't have enough informations to just assume they are going to do bad with 10-15 tournament games seen on HOTS. Even Sting, Center or Lucky have already shown great skills and I'm pretty sure they could beat a lot of good EU players.
I'm not sure I understand why you are this confident regarding EU chances. I mean, aside from Lucifron, Stephano and Snute, I don't see any player that I would confidently predict to do well in this tournament. We'll have to wait and see I guess.

Really? Well I went back and looked up to see if I was mistaken.. I wasn't. Same tourney 1 year ago: 6 koreans that I can count (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=344786)
Checked the other tourneys? Similar numbers. Over 15 koreans going to a DH summer is actually unparalleled.
Normally I don't spend time making sure someone is wrong but you took care to be a douche about it and make a snide comment about my "marketing" as if that was what I was doing when I said it was nice having more koreans here.

I'm focused on what they're doing now and not just the GSL or WCS b.s. Squirtle's an easy one to write off because he falls into the YellOw category (as much as I love YellOw yeah, only difference is YellOw is the king of special events-- good job on Reach bucko). I'm only talking about legitimate threats and even then if Symbol meets a decent zvz artist like JD. It's game over for him. So the reality is I don't see a clear favorite in this tournament. It's open season baby!

Yup, yup. No point having your marquee player sitting out of this one. It's not like EG-TL will be winning this PL season anyway. As for the other KeSPA teams. A lot of them are still in the hunt so they could use all hands on deck and they don't really have any sort of deal with DH in place anyway. I'm sure we're going to see more adjustments next year when it comes to Blizzard doing their thing so let's wait and see how it plays out.

I'm sad Grubby won't be there. Also, only Slivko from CIS. A lot of players I enjoy to watch will be missing, though I believe there will be plenty of interesting match-ups to watch.

Good for apollo for spilling the beans about life! I hate when tournaments hide players attending for no reason. It's not like DH holds a show about revealing players or anything like that, so DH isn't hurt in anyway over the leak.

Perhaps the exact details of his participation (if it is indeed true that he will attend) have yet to be confirmed between DH and StarTale? Ever considered that? ~_~
