so many people think that they should have the right not just to not participate but also the right to shut down anyone getting to participate in something because "i dont like that company / CEO, this shouldnt be done because i dont agree with him politically"
thats called authoritarianism and it's very popular on the internet
if you dont like it dont participate try to persuade us not to participate, dont try to shut down the party for everyone else

I have a big " Should we be doing this ? " moment right now. :/ What in God's name are you talking about? I don't know. It just feel wrong to me because right now, it's not about sponsoring, it's about being a glorified marketing campaign. But I guess it's because I'm seing this from afar in Europe. Are you kidding? It's completely about sponsorship! Yes, this is a marketing campaign as well, but things like this lead to sponsors if the campaign is successful. This is just a way for Papa John's to kind of get their foot in the door of esports and see if it's something really worth investing in, without having a big potential for loss (I can assure you they're still making a profit off of "50% off" pizza). Oh don't worry, I know that. My family own a restaurant so I'm aware of how promotion actually work out for the company. It's just, watching my twitter feed, I have the bad feeling of being abused here. But hehe, nevermind me, just a bit dubious. Just temporarily unfollow anyone who tweets ads at you, that's what I did. I like seeing the tweets of pictures of pizza. I kind of have a love for pizza, just wish I could eat it more often, lol
Well my feed wasn't pictures of pizza but more them telling me to order pizza and linking the website every 5 minutes, also the TL and EG team twitter's retweeting messages sent to them about pizza every 5 minutes.
Being Canadian this deal doesn't apply to me so I don't want my feed full of ads that aren't relevant to me.

People acting like this is a bad thing fucking amaze me. Rich company wants to start advertising in esports, maybe we can soon start having staff at tournaments that actually get paid. Or players can start living off of more $400 a month salaries.
People circle jerk about how bad Papa Johns is because of the Obamacare thing, yet EVERY FUCKING MAJOR CHAIN IN AMERICA DOES THE SAME THING. But some reason Papa Johns is the only one getting hate.

I used this company's balance sheet for my financial accounting module o_o Too bad they don't have a presence in Singapore

Well the CEO using his company to somewhat threaten their costumers for political gains, obviously a lot of people are not really going to like it. That is ignoring if his political point is popular or not.
I personally think it is just good that more companies are coming in, and I hardly think PJ is bad enough for me to go "no, I don't want them, they be bad mon!". That being said, there is a line, I don't know where, but I'd personally not want just anyone to start advertising in esports.

Meh it's really ignorant to just write him off as a bad guy because of the one statement. That's how a lot of ceo's feel at the moment. Guess what, if you don't have 51% of your shares, your stockholders can force you to increase your salary. Having a ceo with a huge salary is what stockholders WANT. He's kinda forced into making that much money if it's anything like a wealth of other companies and the politics that go into it. The stock holders want the "good guy costco ceo" to increase his pay, but he has 51% shares so he says no.
You don't have to agree with their politics, but if they are willing to sponsor esports, and as long as the teams aren't stupid enough to sign a contract that invalidates their rights, then everything will be fine. What are you afraid of if papa john's comes into esports? Like what bad thing could happen?
Let's look at the benefits for papa johns coming to esports.
1. Delivery drivers get more business, aka more tips, than they normally would because of fans like you at home ordering delivery.
2. Managers of papa johns facilities (I used to be a manager of a family owned pizza place, so that's what I'm talking from) have incentives to raise their sales, so you are helping them as well.
3. Lots of papa johns aren't doing well sales wise in certain areas, this will keep them from having to lay people off if you pay for more pizza due to this sponsorship.
4. The teams make more money.
5. The players make more money.
6. More content gets made.
If there is one final thing added onto that that is negative, and there is only one thing, that is that the ceo is kind of a dickhead politically. Ohnoes, so you would not do all of the 6 things I listed above, because the ceo is kind of a dickhead?
So since I just put forward a cohesive argument as to why you SHOULD support PJ in supporting esports in this instance, guess what, it's on the rest of you naysayers to have an actual cohesive argument of your own.
"CEOs a dick" "I dunno feels like selling out" are just stupid touchy feely pointless unimportant, not useful arguments. You aren't contributing anything to the discussion with acting like a teenage anarchist wearing black clothes.

You should read his comments... he's not talking about what the CEO believes. He's just worried that we're being taken advantage of by some corporation, and admits that he can't quite put his finger on what the problem is, but is just voicing his concerns regardless.
I too am a bit dismayed at how easy it is for a corporation to get the TL community to buy their products. You literally just have to say "we'll support esports" and people will run to the store to buy your products or in this case order as many pizzas as they can.
Its just a bit worrisome that this process is so easy, and people should rightly be concerned about whether they're being taken advantage of and consider the bigger picture. That's all...no one is saying you shouldn't buy a pizza or anything, just that we should think a bit more too and be more cautious.

That's why the average German spends more than twice as much on food than the average American?
The opposite is true, the trend to buy bio-food and fair-trade products is booming insanely and people deliberately spend more money to buy supposedly more natural and economically fair products.
Also, fast food chains have always been a good deal more expensive here than in the USA, just compare the pathetic German Big Mac to the American one and have a guess who pays more for theirs...

Despite their quality control on the ingredients, I find, in my limited sample size, that my enjoyment of Papa John's pizza is highly dependent on the particular store I order from.

I find that time of day effects order quality a lot too. If you order during prime time, your pizza is more likely to be rushed through every process to get it out.
