So here I was, thinking people would have realized what sponsorships is aobut.... It's not about being the best at the game. It's about creating a lot of attention about you and therefore your sponsors. Being good at SC2 is normally the main way of getting a lot of attention but as IdrA once said in a Lo3 or SotG, the sponsors don't care that much about being good at the game if there is another way you get an audience.
Look at dragon for example: He isn't the best player, but his streamed is being watched by many fans because he is unorthodox. Same kinda applies to TLO.
Flo gets a lot of attention because she is a female and she's pretty good at this game (better than 90% of posters here). This attention is what is important to NeedforSeat.

Let's take a look at some popular foreigners: TLO, Grubby, HuK, IdrA, Demuslim...You can add any foreigner you choose to the list (maybe with the exception of Stephano, maybe Major? However this is a whole different topic of discussion). Guess what? They are ALL absolutely horrible when compared to legitimate top tier players. Not even close. They just straight up suck.

I kind of agree with you (your opinion), but this is a weak argument. Even though they are just foreign progamers, they are within the 0,2% (not sure) of the worlds best players.

Yes absolutely, but my point is that the prevailing attitude is that it's a wonderful meritocracy when it's a male foreigner (racism) getting the team/sponsorship. But, when it's a female getting the sponsorship it's unfair sexism and everything should be based purely from skill.

Sponsors are going to go with whoever they feel can give them the exposure they desire, the decision is independent of their skill as a player regardless of their sex or race.

to be fair, he is pretty right.

or would u rly expect a random master player to get any attention in the scene whatsoever even if he tried hard? u know thats not the case.
but i think its not the correct place to discuss it.

nontheless, im very happy for her anyway
i plan to buy a needforseat chair this year for sure!

and none of those players would drop a map in a bo9 vs Flo. Fuck, even comparing those is completly retarded.
Those guys are top 100 in the world, even with koreans in the pool - flo is not even top 1000.

he acutally has insane impersonation and moderation skills. he's intelligent and can talk to an audiance like not many ppl in the sc2 community can.

he fucking does a shitton of things for the community all the time.

He deserves what he gets.

Again, im not hating on Flo, im happy for her sponsorship cuz things like that only help our game in the end - but ppl that doubt all the attention she has ever gained is mainly because she did what she did being female, are just as stupid as ppl that hate on her personally in this thread.

Is she actually sponsored or did they just give her a chair? Will they be sending her to events, paying her a wage? Not many details here.

Yup same, so if we receive peripherals, we can just claim we are sponsored by said company?

If the genders were reversed, I know you wouldn't be pushing the whole "just get over it" argument.

I don't think Caroline Wozniacki could ever take a game, let alone a set or match against Rafael Nadal; hell, Manny Pacquiao would get his ass kicked by Wladimir Klitschko. However, that doesn't mean Caroline Wozniaki and Manny Pacquiao aren't FUCKING AWESOME and don't deserve every fan they get. Flo is a good player. She has won and gotten top 3 a number of times in female tournaments. She has a fun stream and gets pretty good numbers on it.

Let he who gets 500+ stream viewers or can take a game off ANY eSF or KeSPA player cast the first stone.

hmmmmm, the only people commenting on Flo's sponsorship that can claim either of those things (TB, Thorzain, Scarlett) only have good things to say about it..........

If the genders were reversed, I know you wouldn't be pushing the whole "just get over it" argument.

Yes, at least I would.

Gender is an inherited genetic trait, just like race (i.e. German only tournaments and some of the early EU teams) and (to some extent) ability at Starcraft. Pushing for gender equality means that you try to eliminate potential imbalances, so by your thinking, clearly the correct thing to do is offer no incentives to top female players and continue to strive for a world in which males completely dominate SC2.

If you truly believe this is the correct course, you're either an idiot or a male supremacist, probably both since the latter implies the former. I know that's a strong statement, but it is no less than you deserve after what you've said in this thread.

In reality, if you were a female, you most likely would not be playing Starcraft at all, though I doubt you realize this because you can't fathom the idea of a world that is influenced by something other than genetics. It turns out there are "societies" with "cultural standards" for each gender, and that these cultural standards tend to push females away from gaming. That is changing very slowly, and every little bit like this helps reach the goal. I'm sorry you are so violently injured by a female progamer getting a small personal sponsorship.

Here's a brain teaser for you and any other male supremacist in this thread:
1. You think (though you haven't said it so far) that women are inferior at Starcraft. You will almost certainly defend this by pointing to the handful of female progamers and their lack of results in anything worthwhile. I'll point out Scarlett, and you'll make some ignorant comment about transgender people. Okay, fine. Let's accept your assumption that men have an inherent advantage at Starcraft in some way other than sociocultural factors. "Being male increases your skill at Starcraft, which unfairly increases your chances of getting on a team or being personally sponsored."
2. This point is easy because it is currently true. "Being female increases your marketability, which unfairly increases your chances of getting on a team or being personally sponsored."

"Sex sells"? By your logic, your sex is selling too, but you're just too stupid to see it.

Men who believe that this is unfair don't want gender equality. They want gender dominance. They're completely unwilling to acknowledge the fact they are got (and continue to get) heaps of sociological gifts that sped them along their path towards StarCraft and oftentimes increased their skill in the process (sports and video games at a young age).

I think it looks better than the original DX-Racer chairs. Because it got Lumbar support/curve. I think that is important. But I wish it came with a head rest. A lot of people end up slumping because they get tired in their posterior cervical region.

why? people watch both of them despite there being a ton of people better than them at their sport. my point was that people watch flo despite their being a lot of people better at her esport. sure its not exactly the same thing, but its an analogy, an example to prove a point.

Heres another one: I looked at the website in your sig and saw you were on complexity academy. Thats really good, and though I haven't seen you play, I can guess that you are very good at StarCraft. I have no idea, since once again i have never seen you play, but lets say your so good you could beat Flo consistently in tournaments. Who cares? I have heard of Flo, she has a featured stream on TL, I have seen her play. I have never heard of you. Therefore, big chair company gives her the sponsorship instead of you (and i mean no offence to you btw, just another comparison, since the others weren't Starcraft-y enough for you).

I'm gold league and I get more viewers than any SC2 player out there.

Yeah, if you "try really hard" from a marketing standpoint, you can get whatever you want. Skill is irrelevant, marketability is all that matters. Flo has built up an audience, ergo gets a sponsor. What about that is tricky to grasp?

They're mad that they can't do the same thing. Heck, I would be too, but I'm too busy watching you smash face in Blood Bowl.

isn't the whole point that it is in the context of being a player?

or are you saying a master league guy needs to be a personality, while a woman could be a master league player?
