Aphrodite is actually quite good. Can at least take ladder games off some really good players once in awhile. Even if they are just ladder games.
Ya, saw her win a crazy micro game against Vines once. I'm sure she wins other players regularly, we just don't know about it. Regardless, I have never been so stoked for a GSTL event. For over a year now, I've been really wanting to see them play. Pretty awesome they are getting their chance finally, and what better than a face-off? w00t ^__^
well, now that i have found out she wins ladder games....against Vines of all people....i will ignore the fact that they both have done nothing of note in their entire sc2 careers. its a joke, pr stunt.
Have other girls done anything of note in their sc2 careers? Are there other girl pros who have won tournaments and made headway in the scene besides 'Scarlett'? Hmm so this is kind of a first isn't it? You should be encouraging it not demoralizing pro females in Starcraft. This community doesn't need naysayers like you guys. Since these two teams are the only teams with high level girl players...Its sort of fitting that they can open with each of them. Adds hype and it's pretty badass for me and other girls part of the GOSC.
P.S. Either of these girls would stomp any of you 1v1
if you think its demoralizing to realize that they are only putting them on the stand because they are females then you're going to have a tough time in this world. thats absolutely what they are doing.
p.s. too bad they cant stomp anyone who plays the game professionally.
edit: i just remember where i have seen your name. you were the one who disapproved of scarlett joining the girl's group. maybe you should be more supportive of transgender with legitimate talent, and get off your high horse.
She is a female fan of SC2 who is a big fan of EG, because they retweet her quite often. And I am with her on the subject that players should encourage women to join teams and play. If the two players were male, but totally unknown, we would not be having this discussion at all. The only reason you object to them being put out there is because they are women and that is the only reason they are playing the booth. It may be a factor, but you are wrong to assume it is the only reason. The community needs to get over it as a whole.
I'm confused as to what other factors you think are putting these girls in the booth. They clearly aren't the best players on their respective teams, and there is certainly at least one player on both teams who would make a better starter than either of them.
I don't actually care that they put girls out there; it doesn't bother me. But let's not pretend there are "other factors" behind this beyond their femininity.
For me at the end of the day; It isn't a 'PR stunt' or a 'Joke'. Its more of a good idea and a way to hype the tournament and bring more girls into the fold.
Isn't that the exact definition of a PR stunt?
A PR stunt is having the star of your TV show jump over a shark to boost ratings, getting married only to sell DVDs of the wedding and TV coverage then getting divorced the next day, having two people geting in a fist fight outside your store to get newspaper coverage. All of these are PR stunts that really happened.
Having two masters level players play SC2 on stage is not a stunt. Having them get in a cat fight on stage would be.
its sad that it has come to this:
"A publicity stunt is a planned event designed to attract the public's attention to the event's organizers or their cause."
if you want to quibble over words though, i originally called it a PR move if that will quell the outrage at calling a spade a spade.
And besides, to the point complain about them using the girls as publicity tools and the immorality of it...
Lets be honest. It's very unlikely that Eve and Aphrodite were ever going to play normally. They aren't close to A-team GSTL material, and will probably never qualify for the GSL. But it's a fact that they are trying to make it as professional players, and that means they want to play. I mean heck, they wouldn't be on a damn team in the first place if they didn't want to play. So now that they are given the chance to play, the only chance they may have ever in fact, in the GSL booth, regardless of the "circumstances", you want to decry it and deny them that exposure?
Any chance is better than no chance, and I can only see this as a good thing for them. I would be shocked if they weren't really excited for this chance to represent their team.

Yes it's likely a publicity stunt, but so what? It's in a fun pre-season tourney for a beta of a game for a fairly meager amount of money, during which some of the teams' top players will be off playing in the IPL ESF seeding tourney anyway. It's not even part of the proper GSTL season. Find more important things to complain about, please.
SotG talked about this issue? Where can I find the VOD link?

I think part of the problem that people have was that you felt the need to point it out in the first place, including myself. People are not so dumb that they don't understand that these two players are not top teir, but we all want to encourage women to feel comfortable in the scene. We all want to be encouraging and just enjoy the preseason, which doesn't truely matter. Yet for some reason, people felt the need to point out "You know, those girls arn't the best there is. They are put up their for PR and media reason", like people did not know that already. Then comes the debate that has happened 100 times before and we all been part of. It is as dumb as when people complained why some girl was on SotG when she wasn't an SC2 pro, or why some girl on the floor is interviewing people when she doesn't know build orders. It is old, it has happened before and we all want it to stop, because its a dumb argument.

Well then, don't whine or talk down to people when they respond very negatively to that opinion, because that is what is going to happen. If you are set on stirring up useless drama, don't expect people to respect your decision to do so. And if people call that opinion flat out stupid or borderline sexist, you shouldn't be surprised.
