This is so awesome, thank you!
Apparently, watching GSL from gomtv.net does add to the twitch.tv viewer numbers, so the actual GSL foreign viewer numbers are higher than what is presented here. Poor Proleague.

I think this is a typo? You are contradicting yourself indirectly. I think you meant that watching GSL from gomtv.net does not add to the twitch.tv viewer numbers?

Doubt it, theres a reason the price for a ticket is so high because not a lot of people actually pay.
And if you take into account how many people thats in the LR threads watch on Twitch then the "casual" viewers certainly watch it via there as well.

You're forgetting that there is also a separate (and pretty decent quality now) stream on Gomtv.net now, separate from twitch, but also without needing a ticket.

Er, yeah. Fixed. Thanks for letting me know.

Nope. I'm offering the average viewership, not the peak viewership (which was indeed above 20k).

-_-

no there is nothing wrong. it did not have 20k on the average, and what he does it take some values and average them.

Now isn't that interesting? When they're not competing directly with each other, GSL viewer numbers are roughly equivalent to Proleague viewer when EG-TL is playing. When they are competing, however.. ouch! Proleague just has no chance at all against GSL, it seems.

Today was a special case, with EG-TL playing on Proleague (which usually guarantees >10.000 average viewers) and Stephano playing for the first time in GSL in Group H (which was hyped all over the place). Proleague viewers were cut in half, while Stephano did not at all impact GSL's average viewerships.

I think you're forgetting something. GSL is online only whereas Pro League is actually broadcasted on television in Korea. So, making a GSL vs Pro League in terms of numbers is useless if you don't have the total numbers to compare.

This is a really cool thread! I am curious though as to why MaximusBlack has more viewers than other really good players like Snute/Ret/Sase/Catz... I suppose fanboys and time zones play a part in that. Regardless these lists are really insightful. Well done^^

Which is what I said. I'm also missing the online numbers from people watching the Korean GSL stream as well as the English GSL stream on gomtv.net. So yes, this does not mean that only 5000 people watched Proleague today.

I can only work with the data I have, and while it is not entirely accurate, it's still enough to show that, for us foreigners, GSL is more popular than Proleague.

It's not completely useless. Obviously it doesn't show how many viewers there are at total.

But it does show a lot of people which watch over twitch.tv turn off PL to watch GSL.

It also doesn't show all GSL numbers as GSL also has their own streams (a korean too, even though it's not on the TV). So neither the GSL nor the PL stream shows all viewers. But i highly doubt that the TV numbers are good for SC2, as it's fairly unpopular in Korea. So overall i think GSL is maybe truely watched more.

It might be it might not be. I don't live in Korea so I don't know if SC2 is unpopular over there or not. Only the numbers will tell once somebody can get them...if possible. Either way, Foreigners definitely favor GSL in every way possible but Koreans in general favor Pro League. Which is why It's hard to calculate without the actual numbers.

I'm getting all stream data that's listed on teamliquid, that includes dota 2 streams. However, teamliquid only started covering dota 2 not too long ago, and people are registering their dota 2 streams here only little by little.

I see more and more dota 2 streamers on TL.net, though, so a month or two more and I could reasonably make such a list. However: a) There might still be some big dota 2 names missing from that list. I don't know. Which brings me to b) I don't play dota 2, and I know jack about the game. So I wouldn't really be able to do a nice write-up on the list. I could still present it if there's enough interest, though.

Yeah, no need to write an analysis about it. It would be pretty nice. Besides, it wouldn't be as sad as to watch the LoL numbers, hehe. There are often multiple LoL streamers with +10k-20k... Oh well it's just a popular game atm. Hope SC2 will get a boost with HotS. ^^

If other teams don't step it up, EG is going to become my new favorite. Can't believe I'm saying that.
