NOTE: This interview went from Eng to Kor back to Eng so it may not be entirely accurate.
How do you feel about bringing your team the victory?
I am so glad that I was able to bring my team the victory with my two wins. Even more important, I was able to snap my ZvZ losing streak. I feel so good because I was able to win in a ZvZ.
In order to end your losing streak with ZvZ, did you come to the studio after much preparation?
I practiced a lot. I prepared with my teammates.
Against Samsung KHAN, you lose against Sola.
Losing to Sola didn't shake me up. When it comes to ZvP and ZvT, I am confident even against the strongest players in the world. However, I know very well that my ZvZs are an issue.
What are your issues with ZvZ?
Even as of now, I have never liked playing ZvZs. Since I dislike the match up, I avoid practicing it. The end result of avoiding practice like that meant that I would often have to face problems like being supply blocked and messing up my timing attacks.
With today's victory, it seems like you'll be showing a different side of from here on out.
I am glad that I was able to take down ZerO who took down Jaedong. I was able to show the people that I was able to win because I practiced.
Were you disappointed by the fact that you couldn't attend IEM Katowice?
I was happy when I got through the qualifiers but I couldn't attend the main tournament so it's true that I was bummed. And then I noticed that of all the players that qualified, around fifteen of them were all Zergs. I hate ZvZs so I think missing out on this tournament wasn't all that bad.
How much did you prepare on Proleague's new maps?
I've played them all. I think Neo Planet S and Neo Arkanoid are good maps. Neo Caldeum and Neo Bifrost have a lot of pathways. When it comes to those two maps, it's imperative that I know of every available pathway whenever I engage in battles so I falter a little bit on the comprehensive part. For Neo Planet S and Neo Arkanoid, I am ready. Send me out.
What kind of role do you want to take on for Proleague?
I just want to win (laughs). I want to become the soul ( PartinG of EG-TL?) of my team.
You have GSL Code S ahead of you.
I am satisfied with my group. I have two Terrans but I am confident in my ZvTs. Although I am worried because my opponents have two weeks to prepare for our match ups as opposed to overseas tournaments where we all have to improvise as we go along. I think the chances of me grabbing the championship are high but realistically, I am looking at the semi finals as my goal.
Anything else you would like to say?
I am sincerely grateful to my team for giving me the opportunity to participate in Proleague. I want to thank our team's manager, our coaching staff, and my teammates for helping me with practice. Lastly, I want to thank our sponsors Raid Call, Monster, Kingston HyperX, and Intel Extreme.

ahaha dat pic.
Also thanks Seeker

Red Bull is sponsoring EG? :O
Thanks for the translation!
|
Um Red Bull? I'm guessing there was a translator error somewhere. There is no way that he said that. OP might want to remove that because if Monster sees it and doesn't understand it as a translator mistake, it could cause some problems.
He probably said Raidcall but somewhere it got changed to Redbull
|
Thanks Seeker.
Wonder if that Red bull is a typo since i havent seen anything about EG and Red Bull, unless they really wanna fly and drink monster while doing it O_O.

Redbull and monster would never sponsor the same team.....its definitely a translator error.

Oh man haha xD I havent even noticed that when I read the interview ^^ nice catch:D

And after the match, he and ThorZaiN dyed their hair pinkish-red.

And yeah, there are some errors in the translation, needs proof-reading. Thanks.

Stephano plans on making Ro4 GSL? As always, he doesn't lack for confidence! Haha.
It is good that he seems to be more integrated with his team now and also good news that he has been practising his ZvZ and learning the new maps.
|
Thanks for the translation, they must have misheard Raidcall lol, since that is their title sponsor after all

lol redbull
No we are not sponsored by them.. good interview though! Nice work steph <3

thanks for the interview!
go EGTL!

Pretty confident regarding the GSL, but he's capable of achieving his goal if he shows his A/S-game.
Thanks for the interview!
|
LOL @ the redbull plug. Hope Monster doesn't see this :-P
Congrats Stephano. Damn, he's shooting for the Code S semi-finals already. Gogo :D
|
Maybe the English-to-Korean translator confused RaidCall and Red Bull.
|

Im quite positive he said raidcall but through all the translations, it got changed to redbull.
I hope stephano doesnt get punished for this.

Dodging ZvZs like a boss and I can't really blame him.
|
Wow Stephano...high goals for GSL, huh? Thanks for interview!
|
Thanks Seeker!
Again this interview, among others, makes me wonder whether Kespa adds some things here and there in these interviews. The answers in this interview seem Stephanoish but not quite Stephano. Also Koreans are much more eloquent in these post match interviews than anywhere else.
|
it's raidcall.
and thanks for translate,seeker.

It isn't Kespa adding things, but the fact that it is Korean question translated to an English question, English answer translated to Korean Answer, than Korean answer translated back into an English answer that makes things seem funky.
|
If ya google translate the last part, it says Reid Cole. So yeah, he definetly didn't say Red Bull.

Lol, don't worry bout it :D Thanks for the hard work as always.

It takes an exceptional photographer to make Stephano look ugly, but he somehow managed it.
Also, kudos for having the balls to aim at Code S Semifinals. If any white guy ever had the chance, it's him.

Well, Stephano got caught on a terrible light while smiling retardedly. I'm afraid he might smile even less while playing proleague now

In 2010. I guess I shouldn't have said "ever".

He should have added "aim at Code S Semifinals since the game is not at its beta-to-patch1.1 phase". The same might happen at the early phase of HotS too, but with the Kespa players, it will be tougher.

Chances of him grabbing the Code S championship are high, but he's aiming for semis? I think chances of Stephano being high when he said this are very high...
|
Hahaha. dat confidence about Code S. Good luck, Stephano!
|
Think high is a relative term, 10-15% would be considered high in my book. Which I don't think is too far off.
|
Lol at him having a high chance to win the championship. I can't wait for him to get eliminated in the first round.

I think the post above yours was pretty well said. There are 32 people in code S, so you'd expect about an average of 3% chance to win. I think most people would agree that stephano is probably around a 10% chance, which is really high.

Haha, can you imagine if Liquid got sponsored by Red Bull? The rivalry would increase tenfold. (Not unfeasible either, Red Bull have sponsored Halo teams and MLG in general in the past. They once actually flew a Halo player to events in a 2 seater plane.)
Cool interview. I like that he doesn't care about a tournament he'd be very unlucky not to place top4 in because of too much ZvZ. Hope he can become solid enough in the matchup to remain consistent as the ace.
|
hah.. thanks.. great job stephano.. wish I saw those games.

No he doesn't have anywhere near that. He is in the bottom 10 of players in this Code S. The only players I would even consider giving a 10% chance are Life and Parting. Sniper probably deserves 7-8% and then no on else has over 5%. You are drastically underrating Code S or overrating Stephano.

Really cool interview; I look forward to watching Stephano play in Code S. He says he can realistically make Ro4, so I wanna know if that pans out. Code S is full of scary players these days.

Instead I should say something more along the lines, I think it is arguable that stephano is around 10%. The hard part about this estimate is the GSL is a very unique tournament, some people just excel in the GSL and some do poorly. All we can base it on is how well stephano does in foreign tournaments against code S level talent. Of course that plays to stephano's strength of rapid fire games, and he isn't jet lagged. However, stephano has been also doing very well in the proleague. I think it is reasonable (and also generous) to say that we could estimate his chance at about 10%. For an unbiased estimate we'd have to ask that aliguac (sp?) guy. Otherwise you have stephano fanboys, stephano haters, and people like me that just want to see foreigners do well in the GSL giving out lopsided estimates.
|
LOL let's take the context out... Stephano:"I think the chances of me grabbing the championship are high"

10% is a VERY lopsided estimate. You only have 100% to divide among 32 players. Parting and Life have to get the most if you aren't biased. There are several other players that are very clearly above Stephano as well like Leenock, Sniper, Creator. Are you really going to give the top 5 players or so over 50% to win this GSL when we just went a year without ever having a player get a consecutive ro4?
|
|
rofl Stephano way too over ambitious with his GSL goals. He should be happy with RO16 I think.
|
If it was still GomTvT, i think it would be a breeze for Stephano. However, Korean pride might be saved by the fact that almost 50% are Zerg and we all know about Stephanos ZvZ, so chances are he gets kicked out by a Zerg early.
Great interview though.
|
|
|
Its kinda silly to debate statistics at this point, it's 5 rounds until a champion. Even at 90% chance to advance every round, that's only 56% chance to win. We'll see how things shape up in the coming weeks.
|
Stephano saying that he is practicing a lot is VERY scary. Looking forward to his Code S games !
|
It's silly to actually think in terms of % who will win the GSL. In 3 years we saw that it's definitely not a matter of favorite. or odds. But it's mostly how much you're prepared, is the bracket fitting you, and your current shape.
Anyway I think it's normal and better for a progamer to have high goal and a lot of confidence, than the opposite. If Stephano manages to improve his ZvZ by a lot, and prepare seriously his matches he probably is an important contender in this season.
|
Let's not debate too much about this sentence plz. There may be part of this lost in translation. We could say his aim is the semi finals. I think it's good he shows confidence. You have to have this kind of mentality if you want to be a high competitive player.
|
Thanks seeker! I can't believe there was no interview at the end of the game, so weak of proleague.
Really liking Stephano's attitude! That win gave me chills :3

Stephano #1 contender! GOGO

Like last week in Proleague he bragged he could all-kill Samsung, and instead went down in the first match to Sola, playing his first PL game. It is good to be confident, but being too cocky has a way of catching up with you.
Now he says he has a high chance of winning GSL, it's just pure cockiness. Even the best Koreans would not and should not make that claim, let alone Stephano whose form has dipped below tier 1 lately. Plus he says he doesn't like zvz and doesn't practice it enough. How far are you going to get in code S with this attitude? Whatever race you are, your zerg matchup is the most important one to master in GSL.
I'd love to see Stephano take a GSL championship however unlikely that is, but for that to happen, he will need to get a better attitude or he will be on a train back to France faster than you can say "choo choo."
