The 22-year old Zerg player has elected not to re-sign with his current team--Norway-based organization GamersLeague--after being courted by several teams with his impressive year-end performances.
Weird to see potential signings broken by Gamespot, especially as I haven't seen anything mentioned on here about it, although it is mentioned in the free agents thread that Snute's contract is expiring.
EDIT
The author of the article is Slasher (Rod Breslau) I did not realise this when I originally read the article.
Who knows. Could even be EG Woops, didn't read the linked article; only read the quoted paragraph. I hope an official announcement from Teamliquid comes out soon.
Norwegian StarCraft II player Jens "Snute" Aasgaard is expected to sign with Team Liquid for 2013, executives of several teams have told GameSpot.
Seems so unlikely, but Rod's proven so reliable in the past...Guess we'll see. I really don't care either way, unless Snute plans on playing in proleague.
Great pickup, Snute is a professional and this should be a profitable engagement for both parties involved. I wonder if this means there's spot on EG-TL in proleague for him?
he appears to represent everything liquid looks for in players, and I believe he's gone to korea once before. Wouldn't be surprised and would be rather happy for him and liquid if this were the case.
Wish Snute all the best. He is such a hard worker, and all that work is paying off. He rarely whines etc, just focuses on himself and improving. Any team would be lucky to have him, he is sure to improve even more in a real team environment in 2013. I could see him on teamliquid, they always pick up nice guys that can represent them both in and outside the game.

And let's be honest here, he would probably be the best-performing Liquid Zerg at the moment, if they do indeed sign him. Snute is an awesome guy, he has been quite underrated for a while now. I'm glad he finally managed to break out and get some results representative of his talent and dedication. He deserves a top tier team for sure.

Pirate Terran?
Hopefully Slasher's sources haven't led him astray. This seems like a strong foreigner pickup for TL, I wonder if he will go to ProLeague for EG/TL.
every time there's talk of another player joining liquid (or leaving a team, or a team disbanding) I always think about what their new name would sound like...
Liquid`Snute just makes his name sound more like "snot"
(Liquid`Sea has had the best name so far.... there needs to be a "Courage" and Liquid needs to sign him - Liquid`Parting would be pretty cool on all levels)

ummmm yes he is and thats awesome for snute if its true gratz@
me and my brother have an ongoing rivalry, where his favorite team is team liquid, and mine is evil geniuses. i was kinda scared liquid would pick up someone like polt or parting, haha. but snute is a great player nonetheless, and i wish him the best of luck!
Nothing against Snute, but TL needs some more non-zerg players. 4/7 of them are zerg players, with only 1 terran and 2 protoss, but Nony is on a bit of a hiatus I believe.
i want to see the official announcement with interview please! I love snute. The grilled interview aceresport did of him by Thorin was awesome post homestory cup win.snute interview with thorin
I wonder why Teamliquid wouldnt focus on getting actual GOOD players instead of all these "up and comers".. Snute isnt bad in anyway.. But he's not up there with the koreans thats for sure, thats like a whole other league...
Awesome, based on results and the recognition of his peers, Snute definitely deserves more attention and spotlight. After EG, TL is the best place to go for that. Looking forward to seeing more of this guy on Liquid (assuming rumors are true.)

Right, dumbest statement ever made, why do people that knows nothing about recent tourmenets even bother to post? He just won HCS. He is currently without any doubt the best foreigner.

I've had the chance to play snute a couple times a while ago on EU and he's not just an incredible player but hes also very motivated to keep improving. With the level that hes playing at the moment this can only be a good thing for TL as I can see him only improving.

He had in the last months the best Korean vs Foreigner
This wouldn't be totally unexpected to be honest, Snute is a great player, he had been working really hard, is good mannered, and liked by the community

He has nice bang for the buck and is actually a lot better than his name value would suggest. Besides, he's a foreigner. People get tired of top foreign teams neglecting foreigners in favor of Koreans.
Thought this was fairly obvious lol TL lost sea, freeing up some moola, and Snute looking for something bigger. Plus, Snute just has that nice friendly aura that TL used to stand for, and they've had a lot of shit for becoming a korean carried team.

Same thing in the US. If you're going to a place where there are classes, it can be referred to as school regardless of level.
Anyway, can't say this would be exciting news. I'm not really a fan of Liquid as is, and adding another Zerg to the lineup would just give me less of a reason to watch.

as foreign terrans near the level of the snute, there are Thorzain, Lucifron and Kas all have running contracts, Thorzain would be too expensive, Lucifron is building his own team with his brothers, Kas wouldnt be a good fit since he interacts mostly with the russian community (and TL is english)

Well, that pretty much certifies it. I guess TL will make an announcement about it soon, shame that the news isn't broken by the team itself first.
Snute is the PERFECT player for Team liquid, I'm super excited. One of each race Korean plus a solid Snute, Ret, TLO, and Sheth combo with the foreigners is an excellent lineup.
I'd consider him a top 5 foreigner, the better ones being Stephano and Naniwa, and on the level of Nerchio, Thorzain, and Major. Super happy (:
His personality is also excellent for a team like ours!
When was the last time a professional team in any real sport was the one breaking the news of a signing? Isn't the fact that a news outlet cares enough to be breaking this a good sign for e-sports in general?

Whoa, interesting. Liquid is definitely the number one team for most players because of the well-known camaraderie, friendship, respect, conditions, etc.
It's Slasher and his "sources" guessing as much as we are. He is just gambling there in that article hoping the community predictions become true.
Anyways, while Snute does seem to fit the Liquid mantra, the team already has three Zerg players while there is only one active player each for Protoss and Terran. Proleague is the big thing at the moment and the EG side already fields more than twice as many players as the Liquid side to the cause of the Unholy Alliance. I don't see Snute going to Korea anytime soon nor being a huge help there (with other Zergs Jaedong, Stephano, Revival, and Zenio there already). So I hope we'll (also?) see some meaningful Protoss and Terran addition(s) in and for Korea.

There's not really a point to Liquid recruiting more players to supplement the TL side of the Unholy Alliance given the fact that the Unholy Alliance is already oversaturated with players. In allkill format, you have 4 slots, whereas they already have Taeja, Hero, Jaedong, JYP, ThorZain, Puma, Zenio, Huk, and soon Stephano and Demuslim. That's 3 protosses and 4 terrans. Even if EG players are in the majority, there's no reason for TL to somehow feel obligated to add more players, especially where they have two key players of Taeja and Hero. And in the regular format, 6 slots is still easily met by the 10 players that they'll have.
If the whole "Parting seen on TZain's stream" thing does turn out to be an EG.Parting signup, though, that would be pretty cool :D

While he won HSC VI, most people probably still wouldn't consider him among their top 3 non-koreans (yet), especially since HSC VI wasn't one of the premier tournaments (IPL, MLG, Dreamhack, NASL, GSL).
I thought Snute had already won HSC VI and Liquid doesn't really pickup players that have already won championships.
I also think that Liquid has too many zergs and that picking up another zerg right now would not be beneficial to the team because we all know that the team is low on Terran and Protoss players.

Snute is an impressive player. I rate him as in the Top 4 of Euro Zergs most definitely. If he keeps up his form from HSC then he will be up there as the best Foreigners around along with Stephano.
If Liquid have made this signing then they have got a player with great potential.

Well, All-Kill is only the format for two rounds. And yet, with only TaeJa and HerO as the best the Unholy Alliance can field as Terran or Protoss in Proleague, they are too easily snippable. Also think about other team leagues for Liquid alone.
Since the EG side already invested in several new players in Korea, you'd assume it's now Liquid's turn to add more good players to help the cause. After all they got a new sponsor, Barracuda Networks, and also lost a good portion of their roster in Jinro, HayprO, and Sea.

While that is true to some extent, stacking up too much on one race and kill the depth of the roster in clan war scenarios, which is why I'm against Snute joining the team.

I really hope Snute gets a good contract, he has so much potential and is a very likeable (though somewhat shy) person.

None of those zergs are on TL.
He's a perfect fit for TL. Handsome, mannered and beastly. I think with none of the Zergs on TL being that Hero/Taeja level they're looking for a Zerg Ace. Ret has been struggling, Zenio is inconsistent, Sheth seems to be moving towards a caster role, and although TLO is on the up and up Snute right now seems to be closer to that ace level, although we'll need to see if he can keep that up over the next several month. What confuses me is all this hots talk. everyone claims it will be like the beta again, when in reality, all the new units are mid-tier, so we will still probably have macro-oriented games (with cheese/timing attacks thrown in there). and i think It wouldn't be hard for people like snute to transition.
Awesome, I love snute, used to watch his stream a lot when he was "struggling" in playhems, he usually got into a top spot but very rarely won it. I'm going to assume that he has gotten even better now.

Once we get more maps in tournaments that don't highly benefit Zerg over the other races (or rather, less of them that do). But that's another story altogether.
On topic, if Snute does join TL, that'd be a big benefit for the team roster. Would like to see TL look at more Terrans, though...
I was impressed with Snutes attitude when he played Naniwa on ladder and both were streaming. Naniwa bm'ing Snute so much, although Snute staying calm, collected when commentating his game and calling Naniwa a "very good player".
Nice pickup for Snute and TL, if true. GL for both!

For how long Snute has actually had access to great teams and the big tournament scene, his results are anything but moderate. Moreover, it's incorrect to think that this is a "recipe for poor results" just because HotS is coming out soon. Everyone will be at the same disadvantage, it's all in the preparation.
What confuses me is all this hots talk. everyone claims it will be like the beta again, when in reality, all the new units are mid-tier, so we will still probably have macro-oriented games (with cheese/timing attacks thrown in there). and i think It wouldn't be hard for people like snute to transition.
Yeah Snute works so hard and practices so much so I don't fear him falling further in the transition to HotS than other zergs.
Goddammit, yet another "several executives told me" Slasher article. I'm getting really tired of these. He's not CNN, he shouldn't be allowed to get away with it.
Anyway, if Snute really is going to Teamliquid, good luck to him. I don't know much about him, but you gotta know he's a cool guy if TL is signing him.

Well, I have no problem with him trying to be - It's like this for real sports as well, transfers in Football (Soccer for you yanks) have dedicated news sites where people are much much more nosy than what we're used to in Esports ^_^

Surprised it took this many pages of someone crying about Slasher's articles. Would be much nicer to stay in the dark about all things possible happening in the scene, don't you think?

Think about all the imaging and hype lost because of Slasher's malicious journalism. Right now Esports is fragile and we have to let teams control the media release in carefully crafted statements. The alternative is to risk damaging the ROI and thereby the sustainability of teams. How many more Quantic gamings do we need?
It would be very nice to see Snewt in Liquid. It seems to be a good enviroment to be in for him. He should team up with Sheth for some 2v2 mannerism ^^
hmm i dont like the idea much, i dislike Snute since naniwa called him 'the biggest patchzerg of them all' and with ret and TLO we already have 2 top EU zergs.. imo TL should get another protoss and then terran first

Think what you want, but i don't lose the hype of announcements if someone like Slasher "spoils" it for me or whoever. It still can be exciting as long as the announcement/news are interesting to you. For me, even the "malicious journalism" that Slasher or whoever does (pre-announcements of upcoming announcements e.g), it still generates hype. For example, whether the news are going to be true or not in the end.
You probably have a bigger grasp of marketing and advertising, but thats how i feel and i don't mind it at all.

Snute has been on the rise forever. With decent practice partners and a good environment he can get far! His former team only has a few mediocre players which i recon he didn't have much struggle with. Think that Snute's practice is mostly on ladder. Think what he can achieve with the proper practice!

Whats all with snute patchzerg blah blah? Ive only watched his pvz and this guy really knows how to use hatch-lair units to maximum effectiveness but lacks the knowledge to abuse BL-infestor like Curious and Leenock do. He is a very promising player imo.
Following Snute since nearly the begining, and he just fits well with TL. Smart and nice guy, improving skills every weeks (and no patch zerg thng); he will succeed no mater were he goes.
Well, it was bound to happen eventually. Well, not necessarily Liquid, but he wasn't going to stay at GL for much longer with his current level of success. They've got him where he is, but they can't get him any further.
He is the opposite of a patchzerg, he is not abusing the things that makes zerg 'OP' like the actual patchzergs, broodlord infestor. Snute is known for hatch/lair heavy aggression, not camping on 4 base infestor until hive tech.. Hive tech is in fact his weakest point in my opinion. Also, he has been up and coming for a long time, took games of the very best players in online cups regularly. He was mentioned as one of the "players to watch in 2012" by teamliquid a year ago, after a year of solid performance online. He won ONOG before zerg was considered OP.. So I dont know what people bitch about...
Dem haters gonna hate, this is sick for Snute. So well deserved! Can't wait to see him in action!
I really hope this isn't true. Hope from the bottom of my heart. I'd hate to see Liquid recruiting another foreign Zerg. No, it's not about anything regarding balance or other stupid bullshit, but rather because of the amount of Zergs already in Liquid. I'd rather see Liquid recruit a Korean Protoss or Terran. Someone like HerO, someone revolutionary and cool.
Besides, with the retirement of Jinro and Haypro, TL has been without a Nordic player for many months. Obviously a situation that has to be rectified
It's weird, though, that Snute announced several days ago (twitter) that he had specific plans, but that they were not announced yet. So why would the new team wait several days when the plans were already made? Dual announcement coming up?
Or it could be that they want to wait until Snute's contract with Team GamersLeague expires before they make the announcement. I tried to google for it, attempting to find exactly when his contract will expire, but this is how far I got when I tried to type "snute team gamersleague" :D
However, after typing it out completely, I got to this tweet which claims it should already have expired. So why the delay?

Wow. This would be so awesome. I really do like him as a person and a player and he would perfectly to Team Liquid since he isn`t anywhere near his prime where he could be. He is good mannered and has the clear potential to be the best foreigner.

No offense, but Team Liquid zergs are nowhere near the level of Snute, even if TLO starts to get back in shape. Team Liquid foreigners are nowhere near the level of Snute and the level needed when you call yourself a non korean team. Snute's mentality fits Team Liquid, so why not.

I would agree if not for the fact that because of the scheduling (same weekend as Blizzard Cup) and other factors such as player results and race distribution this tournament seemed to be probably the least hyped and exciting they've put on, at least since HSC I / II but it wouldn't be really fair to compare it to those for obvious reasons.
Anyway, enough of this. We should be focusing on giving him the exposure and recognition that he deserves. Though I'm sure joining TL would do wonders for that.
Well, with the lack of results and stagnation, I've lost the hope for the foreign division of TL a long time ago. But now I realize that there is one I might call king...

With regards to the above mentioned Zerg power of the Tl-lineup:The Zergs aren't constant or reliable enough for teamleague performances( ie TL's Zergs, not EG-TL's), imho. nice ^^ I would have liked it more if he had joined a team that I actually like (aka mouz ) at least now liquid doesn't go completely korean xD eventhough they would still have to recruit more foreigners if I am going to call them a foreigner team again...

Basically avert your eyes or you will feel your intellect drop down several notches.
Also to the guy above, why would Snute ever go to apeX? Besides their shady past in other games, they have a record in SC2 as well, what with fucking over the ex-oGs roster and what not.
Liquid needs a really good Zerg. No offense to Sheth, but he hasn't been doing as well as other Liquid members like TaeJa and Hero. I think Snute would be warmly welcomed to the Liquid family. Who knows, he might be able to bring up Sheth's play as practice partners in ZvZ.

Ret TLO Zenio Snute
Taeja
HerO
Hardly an even distribution...
They have sheth too!
And ... Tyler, I guess.......?
Well Tyler has been pretty low key lately (although I guess most players have been, not much going on outside of Korea).
So the complete list would be:
Ret TLO Zenio Snute Sheth
Taeja
HerO Tyler
... It still makes more sense to sign a T/P. However, I do agree Snute would fit in more in terms of personality.
I still don't understand why someone would care to comment something like that when they are obviously completely ignorant. Great to see Clutch actually responding to stupid comments, though.

Just shrug off the trolls. I mean, they're complaining about esports on a website that is all about playing computer games for crying out loud. You don't have the right to tell other people they are wasting their time with something stupid on a website about playing computer games.

I don't know that I necessarily agree with that. I think it's similar (but not nearly as severe, don't get me wrong) as the Westboro folks. They're so blindly ignorant that shining a light in their face is just going to further deter them from knowledge and acceptance of what it is we're trying to show them.

That's not a good comparison. The Westboro crazies intentionally piss off absolutely everyone and goad people into doing something unwise (like shoving them around on some funeral, or not allowing them to protest in the first place) so they can sue those people. Or the government. Or anyone else.
Yes!! So happy about this. The Snute Skywalker fits in nicely with the liquid image. Snute means Snout in Norwegian. The i e in the end is not silent by the way. If you want to try to say it correctly. http://imgur.com/jAJPL?tags

Do people consider Snute among the "patchzergs" though?
I always find it a little unsettling when signing players just before the HotS-transition, as there's a possibility it will change the dynamics rather much and make a promising addition to a team fall low due to not being as good/consistent in the expansion.

Idk, I sure don't. Have watched his stream a lot over the last two years or so, and he's always been an awesome player. He's been steadily improving over the year he's played full time, and did well before the patch (Won ONOG invitational). That he only got his first big tourney win after the patch might have had as much to do with training and mentality as zerg being stronk.
