MLG, you let every player play 24 matches and you pay 47 out of the 48 players not a single cent? Whose stupid idea was that to pay the winner all the prize many at a tournament where 48 great players are attending? seriously this is a really bad joke...

Huh, Scarlett is in the broadcast schedule with no qxc, but qxc is in the player list with no Scarlett. I will read recaps though to see if i was wrong. Players are tested internationally for like a month. Then they're put into playoffs based on those results. The playoffs start off region-based and then move back to international.

It's like GSL (and probably soon OSL as well) are the torunaments that decide who the "champion" is, and MLG events are just random stunts and showmatches with an awkward, artificial feel. Id say they need to get a clue and take a cue from GOMTV, but it's clear the management is just outnofntouch and the whole organization comes off as a sort of corny joke. They just dont get why GSL is so much more prestigious; you can't just buy a tournament and manufacture a champion by inviting a half dozen Koreans and letting them and a bunch of foreigners battle it out with bottom of the barrell casting. This lastest Kespa vs MLG publicity stunt is another display of their irrelevency. yes it is just you

10$ PPV for an *online* tournament with, all due respect, not the very best casters and a really strange format that i haven't seen explained in an actually understandable way anywhere. on top of that, there seems to be waaay too many games happening over that season to broadcast more than ~10% of them. the obvious advantage of online tournaments is that you should be easily capable of broadcasting all the games, but that obviously wouldn't work here as they would still be casting group stage games when heart of the swarm is out. so basically they're asking for 10$ for about 10% of the games of a gimmicky tournament with a mediocre caster lineup.

I feel like this is not the right way if you want to invest into sth, in that case, investing into future events with Kespa.

This, plus they are broadcasting replays. Replay tournaments (lets call them that) dont do good in general so i have no idea where MLG gets the idea to make a PPV online tournament with replays on mondays and fridays, which also means most Europeans cant see shit. Not that it matters cause their replays, so VOD or broadcast... doesn't matter really. So 10 bucks for watching VOD's? Hmm nope

No it's not. The format IS artificial since MLG the potential non-Kespa finalist probably will be head and shoulders below the Kespa players who lost rounds before. It's arbitrary rules like "Hey, let's seed 1 EU/NA pro into finals lol" which makes this tourney completely irrelevant for me.

I don't want to trash talk MLG, because I've enjoyed watching the championship events on stream when I've had the time... and them trying different things to see if something might be profitable for them as a business is a good thing. But I don't know how a PPV online tournament seemed like a good idea... maybe they were expecting that having abit of exclusivity on the Kespa players would attract viewers (I'm just trying to think of something and that is the only thing that makes any amount of sense lol =/). But take into consideration what GSL / IPL (would think they would be MLG's biggest competitors) offers on a near weekly basis (and more often than not when they have 'on' weeks... they are broadcasting most days of that week) + Show Spoiler + GSL - $15 a season for top notch players/competition/production. And if you don't mind watching in standard definition and your not that into VODs you can watch it live for free. IPL - Their regular content is all online stuff, but the IPTL, Fight Club... those can make for some really nice viewing... and its all free, VODs on youtube etc. Just a couple of examples of whats out there regularly when it comes to pro sc2 content Its amazing to see how far professional sc2 has progressed over the last couple of years.. including the production of major tournaments/events, even regular content.. This particular tournament just feels like a regression. Its the first time I've really felt that coming from one of the bigger companies in the esports world.* But hey, I'm just a person on a forum with an opinion lol ![]() [ * I mean in terms of the general idea behind the tournament, not the execution. ]

It has curiosity value at best. In my opinion, MLG should focus more on current and up-and-coming NA players and think about how they (MLG) can provide value for these players. How many new faces does one see come out of the NA scene per year? Only a few. That's a bad thing. Can MLG do things that increase that number? Of course. One might argue that tourneys like these draw viewers, and that that's what matters. But viewers are not priority #1; players are. By focusing on players, you can grow a healthy scene with lots of competition that rewards the players. And once you build that, they (viewers) will come. Putting the viewer first is putting the cart before the horse; it's backwards. The scene needs more grass roots, more bottom-up. Sometimes MLG looks like the the opposite of grass roots.

I also agree with BoZiffer. I'm enjoying the games. And I think $10 is worth it for watching these matchups. I think we otherwise would not see these players play each other, so I for one fully support MLG in this tournament, and feel I've gotten my money's worth. Again, I would also pay $10 bucks for watching Rain, Flash, JD games as well, and I have found the games already played entertaining. Keep it up MLG. On a side note, were there any games broadcasted yesterday? I got home late.
