Hey everyone, my name is Alex Mortimer and I've recently finished co-producing a short documentary that aims at highlighting the amount of dedication and love everyone from the Starcraft 2 community has for this game.
We shot over the weekend of the NASL Season 3 finals and were fortunate enough to interview some community figures and get some of their perspective on the lives they've built for themselves, being able to do something they love for a living.
We'd really appreciate it if you checked it out and let us know what you thought of it!
Featuring thoughts from Day9, Clutch, MaximusBlack and more, I'm pleased to present you with:
The name of the composer who graciously let us use his music is Gohmn and this is a link to his bandcamp: http://gohmn.bandcamp.com/album/gohmn It's a solid album to toss on while laddering as well
Very well put together! I really enjoyd it. Tho something that comes to mind is: What is the purpose of it? Whom is it for? What questions are answered by it? Etc. Like... What's your game plan with this movie?
I really enjoyed it. Please do more like this. I really liked what it talks about , the music is great and ... it's great . Amazing job. I was watching the whole thing with a smile on my faces and right now I just to want to fucking play this amazing game!
Well done, but I had hoped there would be something about the true "behind the scenes" work of running leagues, managing teams, setting up events, etc.
Oh wow, that is the best movie/clip about starcraft or even a game I have evere seen. The topic, the production, the story, the music - everything is perfect and synergies in an awesome way.
I mostly like the other face of familiar sc persona - like mr. bitter or day9. It is not the movie or topic which made them to be so honest - there had to be such a friendly and thoughtful input from the person who managed and created all this! You have my respect sir and thank you so much...
After watching so much Starcraft, this is a really great video and helps me appreciate everything that goes into the game from both the player and event staff side.
Im still really disappointed that I forgot to bring my camera to the event. 7 seconds of blurry footage of my back at around 9:50 is all i've found so far haha.
Very nice film. The only thing I really noted was the emphasis on Huk, and I couldn't help feeling a bit of pain in the chest, especially when one of the people interviewed was saying things like "how could he live with himself".. like.. D:
The good: Camera movement and angels. Lighting (it wasn't really flattering for Clutch but its nothing you can do about it). All the people you talked too seemed to be talking because they want and not because they are forced to, it made the movie feel more fun.
The bad: Headroom problems with Mr bitter and Day9 (too much or too little). It kinda felt (to me) like it needed more content except for "if you want to be good at SC2, you need to spend time on it".
Overall, I loved it. Good job and well done to all people involved.

We'd be more than happy to do that for you if there's someone out there willing to do the translation! My French is a little rusty...

edit: trying to think of what more I can add to my post, but the video is so good its hard to say anything else. definitely going to pass it around
The footage is a combination from a Canon T3i and a Panasonic HPX170.
We are most definitely always looking for more stuff to shoot in the Esports/SC2 scene so if anyone has ideas for stuff they would be interested in and like to see that isn't being put out at the moment, we want to hear from you!
We're releasing some extended interview footage from the weekend that didn't all fit into what we wanted for the doc so keep your eyes open for that and if you really enjoyed it, please spread the word about it! It's incredibly helpful for securing future projects when companies and people see that there's a definite and strong fan reaction to something.
Thank you everyone for the kind words, we want to hear from you!
It's great to see someone who wants to make sure every experience at the end of the e-Sports spectrum kind of just meshes together so that the world has a real view on what's happening on all ends.
This video encapsulates ALL of that.
I smiled pretty much throughout the whole thing.
Great video, great transitioning with the clips / music / personality sequence, it's just a rollercoaster of success.
* Especially when that girl comes out at 8:43 or so... SHE'S SO HOT.
The only real criticism I have is that it should have been longer. I'm sure Mr Bitter has more interesting things to say.
This was such a teaser. I wish it was much more specific on the actual work you do. I'm not an outsider so I see where the connections are and I understand the message. But I feel like outsiders may miss that part of the video and blow off the work as hard work instead of smart work that is also hard. "Work smart, not hard" Well starcraft is both hard and you gotta be smart.. this may make it sound like if you put in the time you'll be good, you have to put in smart time.
Anyway loved it, also leave the names/titles text up longer, i feel like it goes away very quickly.
Note. I'm just trying to be overly picky because the video was actually a 10/10 imo. Just trying to give any constructive ideas I can POSSIBLY think of.
Thanks for this, it's really good. I like the interviews of both pros and casuals. It would be good to show to people who don't know anything about Starcraft and are interested in it.
