Show nested quote + EVEN THOUGH HuskyStarcraft and his friends are REALLY AND 100% doing this because of the charity...the product what we are seeing when we watch the stream is a show with much promotion for the stream(er) with the little side-effect people spend some money. This is basically propaganda, but because it has the guise of charity either nobody gets it or is afraid to step up or say something about it (BECAUSE IT'S CHARITY, DO YOU NOT HAVE A HEART P00N?). Oh boy. I see what you're going at and I've had a few more comments like this. I'm not sure why people mind this kind of concept. It's true that it is promotion for me stream, it's even how the whole idea started. But I do not include a charity to increase my popularity, although that might be a side effect. My thought process was more like "I will be putting in a lot of effort to make a cool event" "Why not try to support a good cause while doing this?" "Let's search around for a charity I support" I genuinely like what Child's Play does and I'm happy I can contribute in some way. Someone told me to just donate myself then, but as you might have noticed, the giveaways do not include items paid by me. Everything I can giveaway was sponsored by a company (playhem and ownaj) or by a friend. What I give away myself is time, because I do have time, but I don't have that much money. That's why I don't just donate myself and choose this method to raise money. As I said, I see where you're coming from, and since it's always possible for people to question my motives it might be better to cut a charity from a future event to prevent confusion. I'm not sure yet and I'll have to give it some more thought. First, I will prepare for this event and try to make it as good as possible.

Sadly, you are incorrect because you are not donating any of your time, as everything you are doing are things you would do regardless. You are simply streaming like you always do, but add a way to donate to charity so you get the free-pass to promote your stream by posting it in sc2 general discussion. This has nothing to do with charity, this is blatant advertising and should be punished. If you want to run an event like this, you should not be able to get away with it by just playing games like you always do (especially at your relatively low level compared to other featured GM/pro streamers). You are doing absolutely jack shit different, you just use charity as a free pass for blatant promotion. Now if you were swallowing swords, eating maggots, juggling with chainsaws, doing cool magic tricks or something else that is considered entertaining and not offered on hundreds of other streams at this exact moment (and most of them are much better at it, there's a reason why you have only 50ish viewers and idra gets up to 10k), then you can do this kind of promotion all you want. Unfortunately that's not the case.

Maybe Darkomicron is doing this for self promotion, why would he state that in his thread? because it would make him look bad, obviously. Every company out there slants the truth or omits certain information in order to promote themselves without seeming like selfish assholes (including MLG, IPL, GSL, MLB, NFL, etc...). There is no need to fucking demonize this guy in his own thread.

Thats why big gifts from philanthropists in our country are not known. In the USA however philanthropists like to showcase their gifts, they call in the papers, organise a benefit and try to get as much publicity concerning their 'gift'. Their name is known afterwards, call it advertising their self, or their companies that got them there. But who the fuck cares, both are winners. The charity for receiving free publicity and donations, plus the philanthropist getting some good PR. Qui bono? Everyone. If you hate this concept, well go watch some1 else. Or you could stay around in this topic and keep bumping it. The OP will love it, and so will the charity.

I don't know who Mahe is, and I'm not sure how I can convince people that I can't 'run away with the money' like he apparently did, but I'll do my best. I use the ChipIn widget (recommended to me because of this reason) in which I put Child's Play PayPal's address. They also have some information on their site, in the FAQ, which I read through first. http://childsplaycharity.org/faq#id-like-to-donate-via-paypal.-how-do-i-do-so And this is the information I got out of their guide for when you're starting a fundraiser. (screenshot) http://i.imgur.com/rqJZu.png If you want to check that for yourself, find it here: http://childsplaycharity.org/assets/downloads/childsplay_fundraising_guide.pdf 100% of the donated money will go to Child's Play as soon as the event ends (I think I put 29 July as the end date). Edit: Also, I link you my stream (with a bit over 400 followers) where all the information of my b.net accounts are on, I play this game since release, I'm in a team I play for. Why would I give you all this information just to run away with a bit of money after which everything I slowly built will be burned to the ground? I stream regularly on my channel, why would I do all that just to throw it away in a whim? I'm a little bit sad that there is so much doubt, but I do understand why you would doubt. I try to be as transparent as possible so you guys can see where I'm going at with this.

Unfortunately that's not the case. No, he is going to be streaming for 24 hours, this is much more than he usually does in one stretch for a reason, that reason is to raise money for charity. You say "you should not be able to get away with it by just playing games.", Newsflash: People on this site like StarCraft 2, thus him streaming it means more viewers and the chance to raise more money for charity. People like TLO have done this for doctors without borders and it has been a huge success, so you're basically talking nonsense. Next, if he was doing, in your opinion, what is "worthy", e.g "swallowing swords" etc. Then even though that might be different, it won't neccisarily mean more viewers or more money donated, let alone it'd be near impossible for him to do stuff like that for 12 hours. Yep; theres a reason IdrA gets up to 10k viewers and he doesn't. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out, IdrA is a much bigger personality within the community and has established tournament results, that doesn't mean he shouldn't stream. Just because you personally are entertained by magic tricks etc. and other stuff that isn't SC related doesn't mean he should tailor his stream to you. It's a SC related website, so SC related stuff on stream is his norm and will provide the biggest turn out for viewers. You seem to just be bitching with no valid points at all when the guy who streams hard in his effort to provide a good show for viewers now wants to turn that into something great. He's doing a great thing and helping a charity. You're just being stupid. That's the bottom line. I'd love to see you posting this kind of stuff on pro streams when they do charity events.

Also, if a person is raising money for a charity why don't they deserve some recognition and self promotion in return? Its not like attaching the word charity to something suddenly means that the person shouldn't be compensated in some way for the time, effort, and resources they pour into it. If there wasn't an opportunity for the person raising money to benefit from the undertaking there would be no incentive to do it. Its one of the reasons why, in the United States, we can write of charity as a tax break. There's no reason why fundraising and charity can't also be good business. Anyways, good luck with it and I'll make sure to tune in brotha!

This isn't some scheme to magically hit 3k views, this is an honest attempt to provide something for a charity through entertainment and a giveaway. Yes he may acquire some additional views in the process, but it comes with a territory when you are engaging in this kind of view-driven charity. Regardless, I can't wait to watch this and watch you crush face, and be crushed by Zerg naturally. ^^
