I approve of this name. Highlander World Champion. DeMusliM is the current HWM. I like it.

The metagame constantly evolves and people play in vastly different formats which has a great impact on their performance. So the best player in the world right now (Taeja imo) might not be the best player a month from now (which hopefully will be Hero). Did you read the OP? this is just for amusement really, and some of it is pretty interesting to follow :D

This isn't about whos the best, some random Master's player who isn't even top 1000 skill level player can hold the the title.

I think its pretty obviously the only way to accurately judge the players skill, it shows quite clearly that Keen is the greatest player over the course of SC2, and that DeMuslim is the best right now. What other mechanism of determining skill could you use?

I still hope that he gives his best or we might lose the Highlander World Championship forever/ for a long time. Does this Samsung tournament really count ? Of course it's an offline tournament but it's hard to consider it as a major tournament (only 2 300 $ for the prize pool). If I read the entire list of unofficial world champions, they have always taken their title in a huge event (GSL, MLG, DreamHack, IPL, etc).

Thought it just had to be an offline tournament. maybe there needs to be an additional rule that the tournament has to have at least 10k price money or something like that.

That's the great thing about unoffical world championships, they get defended in matches you otherwise wouldn't care to much about. Like the football uwc got defended by North Korea in the AFC challenge cup. I wouldn't even know there was a AFC challenge cup but for the uwc, but suddenly Tajikstan vs North Korea turns into a game that i want to know the result of.

Seems relevant, let opterown decide anyway, he's the boss. :p Fortunately DeMuslim is always in the tournament and all the qualified players for the bracket are well known.
