Over the course of the last 2 years, FXOpen has been looking for something that fits with our objectives and goals to generate more exposure via e-sports.
We have noticed that the exposure to new traders specifically from eSports has given us a much higher return than we ever expected. It took over 12 months for us to find a stable figure on that return is but we have finally reached that point.
Over the last few weeks, FXOpen e-Sports has started doing a complete overhaul of all of its business within e-Sports. This was made possible by the new traders that have started using the FXOpen platform specifically from the e-Sports scene (who are actually very good at it). Eliminating things that don't work and adding things that are now possible due to recent changes. These include practice schedules and procedures for players (as they have been slumping hard recently) to completely overhauling our online events system. Effectively any concern we had of making our events break even is now gone due to the e-Sports traders!
Along with this, we have managed to obtain the YouTube.com/live streaming platform for our players and events. This will allow us to capture our audience for all video media in one place. Hitting the subscribe button on YouTube will allow you to get a reminder or update on all of our streams, VODs, random Leenock videos and anything else that is submitted via our YouTube. While this isn't much different from the Twitch and Own3d systems, we have identified that YouTube is a better platform for us when you take the element of cash out of the picture.
We have also been fortunate enough to be allowed to do some testing of the YouTube services such as the advanced CMS (content management system) back office, which is by far the best system we have worked with to date.
So, as of today 26/06/2012, the player streaming schedule will be split into 3 sections with 3 times for our players. The schedule as of today looks like below:
NOTE ** Stream time may be reduced to 3 hours from 4 depending on player feedback ***Mondays may be used to do AMA's or players commentating in english/general shenanigans
Please be aware there may be times when the microphone on the stream will need to be muted as there may be sensitive information discussed during the course of the stream which is not for viewer consumption (it may hurt someone’s chances in GSL or our team in GSTL etc.)
Our regular events will be brought to you on the Youtube.com/live channel. We will not have any subscription model for our events. We will slowly but steadily add new pieces of equipment to our event streams and new opportunities may arise as we learn how to utilize the equipment to its full potential.
In the meantime please do enjoy our player and event streams, and we look forward to seeing you in chat.
For those who wish to subscribe now to our YouTube channel please go to http://www.youtube.com/fxopenesports
Sincerely,
The FXOpen e-Sports team.

great idea i just feel like weekend should play at saturday or sunday.

Nice to hear that things are going well. Would it be wrong to read in between the lines of this post and maybe expect some roster moves ?
I know that you guys like developing your own players, but its sad seeing players like Oz go :[

It is possible in the near future yes. We are still analyzing whether or not a roster change will change things. We do not really like to throw away investments.

Really interesting that you saw a significant return on investment in esports.
How do you know which traders picked up your platform in response to this stuff?

Good news, will definitely tune in to the stream as often as possible. And, with good conditions, results will come and new players will emerge (possibly Tear has already started doing that ).
|
|
Sick! Will tune in for sure :D

I already see the german GEMA blocking this YouTube channel due to whatever reasons

According to youtube, there are some problems with germany. Some people can view some can't.... A proxy is an alternative, but we apologise for this. I think unstable may be able to shed more light on the reasoning, behind the block.

I really like the structured streaming schedule.

well the reason is known by anyone in germany. gema is a very greedy group which wants money from youtube (a big chunk) for every video that is played on youtube which contains material of gema-artists. youtube doesnt want to pay that much money so they just block the content for germany.
no one should be able to watch music videos or any video with gema-artists in it from germany. if they are, they are most likely using proxys already ( like me ).

I think there is an easy workaround for this. :-) But obviously, being able to watch it legally would be the best.

This was a legitimate concern for me when I was first told to look into the platform. However because we will not be using any copyright material on any of our casts and have legal permission from blizzard to run our events they have no basis to request our channel be blocked. Personally however I do support what they do because many video's on you tube do steal music from artists without compensation but this is a non issue in our case. It has been brought up before that streamers playing music on stream while playing ad's to make money is technically illegal, its just they aren't worth chasing at this time for many record labels.
That said we are going to be keeping a close eye on the player streams to make sure they don't play music we have no rights to broadcast.

Good to hear you guys are doing well. Hope the game turns around for you soon too

This sounds really cool, hope to see a lot more of the FXO guys.
It seems Tear is streaming right now, are you going to get this listed on TL?

was the same with OSL stream as well as a lot of other youtube livestreams I tried to watch in the past. I am pretty sure this for once is GEMA related but something else.

Looking forward to watching Gumibear and Leenocktopus stream.
Watching right now, It's buffering a lot, quite annoying.

Actually, the question is not about blocking the channel or not. Youtube streams are not (legally) available from Germany, period. So even if you channel is not blocked, there is no legal means for people in Germany to watch your stream. :-/

F'ing rad, man. Good job, FXO! I hope we'll see more low-mid-tier events as well? Will FXO be expanding their sponsorship beyond the one team to sponsoring maybe events or other things?

Hmm that one I cant really help you as it's not very specific as to why I will have to pass this along to our rep as to what's going on. on the bright side all streams are automatically uploaded as a VOD after the broadcast ends.

On other note, is there something equivalent to a stream chat?

Maybe it's the same as for the SPL live stream on youtube and you can't watch it in Germany or Europe? Cause I'm in Germany and get the same error "The video is not available".

I will bring this up with our rep today, we were told that provided we did not break copyright rules there would be no restrictions on viewing our content. We also had people from Germany view our test broadcasts last week without issue.

Yes, it has to be manually done by a staff member. So its not convenient for player streams. We are searching for a solution.

I don't think people have really emphasized enough what a huge thing this news is for esports. A legitimate, viable high-tech business like FXOpen has actually demonstrated that their sponsorship of a team and events got them enough new users of their core business to make the progaming team a viable investment.
This is huge. Afaik this may be the first demonstration of the serious viability of the esports sponsored team business model outside of Korean companies.
Boss or unstable, I understand that you might not want to reveal specific info and that's fine, but I and probably others. Would be really interested to know - out of these new "esports traders", are the majority from inside or outside Korea?

I can't answer that question.
Be sure to know that the profit isn't exactly huge and the return over 2 years hasn't been one worth really mentioning. The fact is it doesn't exactly COST us money to do e-sports as we get a return.
The time commitment is huge though.. And its relatively painful.
