while i agree that LS invite is strange and a bit wrong, i still feel that he is in an aweful possition right now. Everyone will look at him when he plays and when he gets 0:3 everyone will say "CALLED IT", but realistically, very very many other pro players can get 0:3ed in that group

I disagree with the Lastshadow invite as well, but don't weaken your own argument by suggesting Idra. The guy has a sub 33% winrate for the year

A-Rod/Pettite/Ortiz/etc all got caught cheating at baseball *while they were adults*. And they are still playing the game. LS did something foolish as a 14 year old adolescent, and is still blacklisted. I'm glad that what I did as a 14-y/o didn't hamper my ability to find a job once I became of age. I'm all for the community taking a strong stand on bad behavior, but I'm not sure it's right to try LS as an adult here and give him a lifetime ban. If I'm missing something else here, then please fill me in.

i copied my post from reddit with some edit so you understand FUCKING READ IT !:

On some of those 3 shows by djwheat and jp (sotg, lo3, itg) they talked about how hard it is to get known in starcraft and that Scarlett had to beat top top Koreans to get at least a little known. So they basically talked about how hard it is to get far in the mlg open brackets and how its hard to get known as a lesser player .

after that they said: we have to support them more so , the top shoudln't be that stagnant and need some new wind.

But as soon as our lovely Day has the balls to get lastshadow, everybody cries and bitches. So it seems that people do not really want to give newcomers a chance.

Important is: that even another 4th American (it had to be a foreigner afaik ) would have been knocked out of the group ,same as ls is probably going to be knocked out . Take any EG player f.e, incontrol, idra or machine. Nobody would say a word about them getting invited, but they would also die in that group.
So instead of inviting a known American who will fail as he did in other events, why don't we give a lesser known player a chance.

Example: I would rather see jecho than idra, because as explained both wouldn't probably get out of their group, but rather give new players a shot.

People are mad because he got the invite for the sole reason that he is Day9's buddy, provides him replays for dailies etc. That is a fact. But still, inviting him generated lots of conversation. And all publicity is good publicity i guess. I hope he does well, but won't hold my breath.

LS is hardly blacklisted. He got to live in the GOM house for six months for free! TT1 was a once a caught cheater too, but his career turned out just fine. What's the difference? TT1 has results.
Thank God and gunrun.

Shame Liquid players always get to teamkill themselves, like Taeja and Sheth this time, oh well.

Looking forward to the broadcast!

Seriously.

I am a LS fan, have been since I watched his first 24 marathon.

Yes I know he cheated
Yes I know he BM's
Yes I know there are better players

But it doesn't matter. The kid moved to Korea because he wants to be the best. He is living in another country trying to make this shit work. I can respect the hustle and the grind, and he is pretty good to boot. If he gets on a Korean team, I'm fairly confident he will get into code A. I did some pretty stupid shit when I was young. Unless he cheats in SC2 I don't see what the problem supporting him and wanting him to do well.

Is it actually a fact ? Are they really friends ? Didn't ls publically released his replays and not just gave them to Day9 ?

let me try some predictions too!

G1: violet, illusion
G2: Taeja, Sheth
G3: Ostojiy, Bomber
G4: Lastshadow, Squirtle

Strange that i just put many of the NA players to make it out of groups, however they are a good selection of current high performers.

Taeja 1st, violet 2nd, Squirtle, Ostojiy 3rd overall

PS: community, stop destroying yourselves. silly boys.

I don't understand why people are saying LS is such a bad choice of invites tbh. If he does poorly, we have concrete evidence that he's not ready for tournament play, so both sides can shut up (lol like that will happen) and if he does well then we have a really superb underdog story in the making. Red Bull is smart to try and diversify the player pool in terms of perceived skill, popularity, region, etc. It makes it more interesting than the standard invite lineups that often have only a few players from top teams + half koreans or so.

And after all, don't we just want an interesting tournament?
also i think you should be able to combine like 5 archons to make a really really shitty oliver stone film - Keanu_Reaver, bw balance genius

See, I'm not sure I agree 100% with this. Mostly because of the difference between merit-based tournaments with qualifiers and invite-based tournaments.

Regarding lesser known players become better known, I think the steps that many tournaments have taken in changing their invite-based systems in favour of qualifier systems have helped with that. While it is true that it's very difficult to get recognized in the community, this is only true because of the amount of skill/talent in most tournaments today. But I think that most people already have the chance to get recognized. Like Scarlett, anyone could enter an Open Bracket (MLG, IPL, Dreamhack, Code A, Korean Weeklies, etc). And like Scarlett, anyone (given enough skill) can beat Koreans and make a name for themselves. The only thing stopping people from doing this is their own skill. That is, they can enter tournaments but they might now win against top players. In merit based tournaments, if a player pool is stagnant, then that is because the top players are very stable and just in a league of their own. Should lesser known players be given seeds or spots in merit-based tournaments? I don't think so because it devalues the meritocracy. So I disagree with the idea that the top shouldn't be stagnant.

But this is an invite based tournament, and it seemed to invite players considering skill/merit but other factors too. And that's fine. So in this case, I do agree with you that inviting up and coming players has its own benefits (particularly inviting platers like ostojiy, jecho, lastshadow over familiar idra/machine/tlo/etc). But even when doing this, I believe that the 'up-and-coming player' should be a player that has demonstrated a reason to be invited. Even when looking at the players that we've named, it's clear that they've done something to make us notice them. Ostojiy and jecho made notable runs in MLG Open brackets and LastShadow does his vlog things. So we have already noticed them, they are good players, and this is now just a chance to propel them to the next level.

So yes, given the fact that this is an invite-based tournament (which already devalues its meritocracy), and that there might have been a quota on non-Koreans, I do agree that giving a moderately known player a chance to succeed is a good idea. Could there have been an invite of better skill? Probably, but this isn't the goal of the tournament. If MLG did something like this, it'd seem to contradict their fundamentals.
