Scarlett joins Eclypsia - Page 21

Complaints about moderation and freedom of speech are for the website feedback forums. They will be treated as being off topic and dealt with appropriately.

No more Iron Lady talk, no more gender debate. This is a thread about a StarCraft player. Last I checked what's in between your legs has no impact on how you play the game.

I agree with some of the comments here that the moderation on this thread has been dreadful. It's way too soft. I have gone ahead and simply deleted a bunch of comments that fail TL's community standards. Yes, those standards are determined by the mods. Yes, those standards are not perfect nor even uniformly applied. But we try our best. Spare us your righteous indignation over any notional impairment of free speech. This is a private site. It's a club. There is no "right" to free speech here. We only tolerate quality speech. By who's standards? Ours. Go read the TL Ten Commandments. And if you don't like this policy or our way of running our house, leave. - mensrea

Artist is ok though. But yeah, DesRow isn't exactly Code S

As one of Scarlett's biggest fans, I'd say she isnt exactly Code S yet either. I think the hype is more around the potential she has rather than her currently being one of the best players in the world or anything like that. Right now I think Desrow would probably be a fine practice partner.

Admittedly I havent seen any play out of him in forever but I refuse to live in a world where he's bad after like 6 months in Korea.

Is it really true that she is trans gendered? If so, is she the first trans gendered sc2 player? And what sort of transgender is she? :S

Right now I am honestly thinking, well she really just got picked up because she is a girl (I know this is a bad attitude, but I really think it describes the situation). I feel that there are several male players out there who are just as good but will not be given this opportunity because they don't carry the hype that a female player does. Only time will tell whether this was a good decision by Eclypsia or not.

That being said. Good luck Scarlett, please prove me wrong!

There are alot of pros who are worse than Scarlett who are on even higher profile teams than Eclypsia. She is significantly better than any other girl out there. If a male player had the run she had at IPL4 and he was teamless i would guarantee they would be picked up by a mid level pro team WHICH is exactly what happened to Scarlett. Hell you could argue that Scarlett is better then several of her teamates. No doubt you just read that a girl joined a pro team and didn't even know they player in question. Also can you list these male players who are more deserving then scarlett to be on a pro team?

I agree with what you're saying, but saying "she's significantly better than any other girl out there" is a gross understatement, in my opinion. She's on par with the top North American players right now, and with some tweaks to her playstyle, will easily outclass them.

In comparison, the other "top girls" besides Aphrodite are what... sort of high master's?

I think we simply place different value in the word significantly.

Yeah, I guess. I would say, like, "DRG is significantly better than IdrA," whereas saying "Scarlett is significantly better than Flo" is... almost offensive because you're comparing two players who aren't even on anything close to the same skill level.

You're trying to force an argument. Why did you use Flo? Why not Aphrodite?

No, he acknowledged Aphrodite,

I think we could all agree that she's not just "good for a girl" but rather all around "good." Good enough, in fact, to compete with top NA talent, and apparently some Korean talent as well?

A lot of people are going to look at the headline and original post, and ask themselves what difference does it really make whether you're a female or male. And to be honest, it doesn't really matter 99% of the time

But then when you enter the Iron Lady tournament, the 1% pops up and asks the question. And in my opinion, fails the question from an anatomy standpoint.

In my world of mixed martial arts, a transgender would not get away with entering (and automatically winning) a WMMA contest. They would perform a simple epitestosterone level check, and the transgender would fail that test. I would imagine Scarlett failing a epitestosterone test as well.

I'm only bringing this up to point out that the second place finisher of the Iron Lady tournament is probably the true winner.

Not transgender. SHE is a player that is kicking the living shit out of the starcraft world and is making us all notice.

Are you?

I'm not trying to force an argument at all, and as the person above me said, I did bring up Aphrodite, who is quite good.

Scarlett is good enough to deserve recognition on the sole basis of her play which literally no other female player has come close to achieving, including Aphrodite.

edit:

She IS transgender. That doesn't make her less of a woman, but it's kind of demeaning (imo) to say something like "NO SHE'S NOT TRANS SHE'S JUST A WOMAN" when she is transgender, and should be totally okay with that.

I guess what I'm saying is that people who are trans shouldn't have to live in a world where even their defenders have to say "SHE'S NOT TRANS, SHE'S A WOMAN" and instead it should be "Yeah, she's MtF trans."

Wading through all the 'omg a girl' type comments, it's nice to see some people can see past that.

I hope she does well :-)

Hehe - when you think about it, it's pretty cool that the only slightly derailing contoversy/quarrell here is: "exactly what aspect of this whole situation we should be excited most about".

Is it the double rainbow? Is it the excited voice? Would we be even having that meme if the double rainbow guy wasn't a cliche huge softie?

Well, at least we all agree it's pretty cool :D

congrats, but if the organization really wants to step into top professional gaming they have to get rid of desrow. i cant take a team serious that contracts this player.
