Seriously, if TiG just released the English transcript, all our lives would be easier... I bet Naniwa's going to read this and say that none of this is correct and that I'm a terrible translator QQ

+ Show Spoiler + Your first time getting into round of 16. Tell us how you feel I am amazed myself. Playing in Korea, I lost 0:2 every time, so today, I came with the simple goal of just taking one set. However, winning four sets in a row, I was just amazed. You began today by losing the first set. How were you feeling? I realised what my mistake was. I decided to not feel bad since I knew it was my mistake and do well in the rest of the games. You advance to ro16 showing off great skill. What’s the reason behind the sudden jump in skill level? After returning to Korea, I have been in the Startale house the entire time. I needed some time to adjust but once I did, I was able to concentrate on the game and that’s why I was able to improve. Also, I think my mindset has improved. So far, I have been nervous in my games but now I am over the nerves and the games are playing out well. You have a strong image as a troublemaker in Korea. Any attempts to improve this situation? I am well aware of my image in Korea. Even in Warcraft 3, I was impatient and short-tempered and this became at least five times worse in Starcraft 2. However, no matter how hard I try to stay on the right side, a tainted image is so difficult to overcome. So, I’m not going to pay attention to my image anymore and just focus on the game. Are you planning to stay in Korea? There’s so much to gain from staying in Korea. There are just more players to practise with and quality-wise, they’re better too. In the future, even if I attend foreign tournaments, I plan to stay in Korea. You were once a Warcraft 3 gamer, what is your dream as a Starcraft 2 gamer?
When I first began Starcraft , my goal was to win one major tournament. Since I’ve achieved this, this goal no longer has any meaning. Now as I keep practising, it is to obtain a skill level that is comparable to Korean players and to beat every Korean player in different tournaments. There is group nominations in ro16. Do you think you will get picked early? It’s hard to say. I think they will be reluctant to pick me since it’ll look like they’re trying to get a free win by picking a foreigner. However, looking at what the players think in general, I think I will get picked fairly soon. As a foreigner seed, you are the first to make ro16. Your goal this season? My goal was originally to take just one set but that’ over with after today. I won’t look too far ahead and just play out my games. Compared to the high calibre Koreans, I’m a weak player with so much to learn. I will try my hardest to prepare for and win every game. Anything to add? I want to thank GSL who gave me the Code S seed. Personally, I think anyone who receives a seed, including myself, is given an unfair chance but I did make good use of that opportunity and made it into the round of 16.

+ Show Spoiler + This is your 5th time in ro16 in a row During practice, I had most difficulty against Protoss. There were two Protosses in a group so making it to ro16 makes me delighted. In your first match, you lost to a Terran, not a Protoss Despite our builds being similar, I got behind. Losing the build side of the game, I played impatiently. I think impatience was the cause of my downfall. You had a one-sided victory against Puzzle in the loser’s match I was confident about Entombed Valley in Set 1 since I had a lot of practice on that map. Frankly, I couldn’t say the same about Set 2 on Daybreak. If Daybreak were to be selected, I was going to just warm up playing standard then take Set 3. Also, the build I used on Daybreak was a never-before seen build. I got behind with my build but with the medivac fake working out well, I took the game easily. You met Ryung again in the final match to pay him back in style I lost the first match because of impatience. So in the final match, I paid great care to my builds to start the games with an advantage. However, my build didn’t work in Set 1 so it seemed difficult. Then, my battlecruisers netted me a win and I rode that momentum to take the series. What do you think is the reason for you recent slump? I’ve said often before that wrists and my health in general have not been the best. Even during practice this time, I suffered from enteritis. I couldn’t practise because of my bad condition. So I’ve stayed stagnant whilst others advanced onward. How is your health lately? I thought the reason I couldn’t exert any force on my wrist was because of the wrists themselves. However, I recently got in touch with GGPlay (T/N: the name MVP mentions has two results in TLPD, the other, Jjando, just looks very unlikely to be whom he is talking about). He told me that he had the exact same symptoms that I have. At the time, GGPlay retired and I continued. After GGPlay got out of the army, he had an examination which revealed that the problem wasn’t in the wrist but in the cervical disc. So, I am planning to get my cervical disks examined shortly. Your goal this season? First, it’s to get to ro8 so that I get to stay in Code S. Once I achieve this, I will set a new higher goal. It’s ro16 group nominations on Sunday. When do you think you’ll get picked? Lately, Terran’s a pushover, right? (laugh) So I think I’ll get picked rather soon. Lately, MKP is on a roll so being in the same group as him should be fun. Anything to add? I want to thank my mother, father and older sister who always cheer me on from home. Even today, I received texts from my family before the games. They were a great help. The coach is having a tough time right now but I’m sure everything will work out soon so I hope he feels better. Also, Nestea plays his ro32 games tomorrow so I hope he does well and lastly, I’m grateful to my girlfriend (T/N: wait what? Since when?).

yaay! thanks for fast translation!

naniwa fighting!!!!!!!

Glad to see that he himself too acknowledges that the whole seeding thing is unfair and silly. Good luck Nani!
Oh and about the whole not focusing on the image thing.. Could've at least washed his shirt! It was all dirty, had some white stuff on his shoulder.

Thank you for this!
Naniwa seems so humble! But he is still a freaking beast!

NaNiwa has grown into a man! Now go win this GSL!

gogo nani! nice, measured responses.

Why didn't he thank his sponsors?

This:
"Compared to the high calibre Koreans, I’m a weak player with so much to learn. I will try my hardest to prepare for and win every game."
Such a different naniwa from just a year ago. He is learning so much and I am sure he will do just fine in the near future. I have waited for him to succeed in Code S for more than a year now, and today was such a relief.

man so fast ! thanks for this I hope nani will go far in gsl :D

Thanks for the translation. Weird but good to see a humble NaNiwa :')

thx for such a quick translation. happy he went through, even got 1st in his group. gj nani

It must feel bad for the Korean players when they effectively lose a spot to a foreigner seed, but obviously this isn't Naniwas fault personally.
He played well today so he justified it I guess.

Possibly he was too busy focusing on making sure he said the right things about GSL and didn't come off as a dick and it slipped his mind or something

That is a very nice interview to read for someone who is not a Naniwa fan per se. Just mature, well thought out responses and I guess what I would want to hear?
Anyway, huge wins for him today and huge congratulations are in order. Although having a seed is an unfair advantage, what he did with it was stellar.

To be fair he earned a seed through MLG once that he never got to use really.

As you said it's not his fault, and if he choose not to accept the seed GOM would give it to another foreigner anyway. So why decline? ^_^

I've had a neutral stance on Naniwa all along but always respected his skill, and I suspect there's a lot of other fans like this as well. Now he is winning me (us?) over more and more. Well done Naniwa.

If he really means what he has overall said in this interview he has gained a fan in me, and that is something I REALLY never saw coming.

holy shit. such a different naniwa. I'm impressed with his attitude and humbleness. I'm really becoming a fan of this guy I guess sase is helping him in some many ways =)

I like how MVP is still connected to woongjin stars and their players even after nearly 2 years since he left the team for SC2.

Mvp clearly wants to challenge MKP, Stated above, I want to see if he can beat mkp if this does happen and he got picked.

Thanks for the translations! It sucks to see MVP being so ill, its amazing that he's still so good.

I think MVP should get the problems with his wirsts done before concentrating on SC again. You have to live your whole life with those hands, better care about them! And there will be plenty of Starcraft to win in the future. Besides that I hope he advances further.
|
Naniwas honesty makes him sound like a really humble person. Or it could just be the translation great games from naniwa and i hope he gets matched with some more pvps so he can really use his strengths and advance deeper into gsl.

MVPs approach to Daybreak tvp doesn't surprise me one bit. Happy both MVP and a foreigner made it!

The way naniwa and idra act is completely different. Idra is an outspoken person when it comes to the game and won't hesitate to say someone is trash if he thinks so. He also remains professional when representing his team at major events, which is respectable. However, Naniwa just doesnt care about anyone but himself. Do you mean the "fuck off" to Huk after the Hallu VRs incident? Or the flinging the headphones down and breaking a key off his keyboard? Or the 6pools vs aLive? Thanks again as always storywriter. Very nice to see Naniwa's response saying that he is a weak foreigner, very humble and a realistic perception, although I think today he's showed that he is stronger than some Koreans.

Hrm cervical disk issue for mvp eh? Sounds similar to the problems metta world peace (if you follow nba). He had a spinal issue that made him have issues exerting force to his legs. Wonder if a different disk could cause hand/wrist issues. Poor mvp =( and yet he still crushes.

"a disparity of awareness between actor and observer: when words and actions possess significance that the listener or audience understands, but the speaker or character does not" anyway. finally nice to see a foreigner not losing. go naniwa.
That's dramatic irony. For a play, theatrical production or novel. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that applies to what Zealot Orgy meant. _____________
I think that Naniwa's achievement here might be slightly overrated. He did well, but a 2-1 PvP and then a 2-0 against Ryung is actually less impressive, in my opinion, than what he has already achieved at Winter Arena and Providence. It is only because of the label of the tournament that people are hyping this up.

I think Genius will pick SuperNoVa, which lets PartinG pick up Mvp since he'll be the 2nd weakest TvPer if Virus doesn't make it tomorrow.
MarineKing will most likely choose July as he isn't confident enough in TvT to take on the other Terrans, imo.

I like him because, to me, he seems like someone that's extremely motivated and focused on the game, but who sometimes does stupid stuff that he later realizes was stupid. I haven't been following him since Warcraft days, so I don't know what he was like then, but in SC2 he just seems a bit awkward, like he comes off worse than he intends. I don't know, I could be wrong, but I used to be like that when I was younger (hell, when I was his age) -- I'd say things that (I later realized) sounded really mean and rude, but I totally didn't have that intention, I was just clueless and awkward. I kind of see something similar in him, so I sympathize, and I hope that he continues to grow and mature personally as he keeps getting better at the game. I mean, look at this interview for example -- what part of it seems childish to you? He sounds fairly mild and modest to me, acknowledging that he's earned a bad reputation and that he didn't really deserve a Code S seed, but is just trying to play his best although he has a lot to learn.
Eh, I don't know -- it's fine to not like the guy, but I don't really get the near-hatred that some people refuse to give up on. I know it's just the forums and people just like to talk and exaggerate, but still. Maybe if I had followed the Warcraft scene I'd get it more.
At any rate, hopefully Nani keeps playing well and growing up and doesn't do anything to earn more of a bad image.

He sounds fairly mild and modest to me, acknowledging that he's earned a bad reputation and that he didn't really deserve a Code S seed, but is just trying to play his best although he has a lot to learn. Eh, I don't know -- it's fine to not like the guy, but I don't really get the near-hatred that some people refuse to give up on. glad he was able to find another player with same condition to seek help... it doesn't look like it will be a easy procedure to cure.. in fact, it may take him a couple months to recover after surgery

Like I posted before. http://i.imgur.com/LtMEu.png and that incident when he called MLG a joke on the mainstage AT the tournament. There are tons of examples but i'm not going to waste my time finding all the screenshots. It's really bizarre to me that people turn a blindeye to all of the shit he does just because hes a foreigner from europe. If he was American, i'd bet europeans would hate him.

Not irony. Sorry, that annoys me. ^__^
You know what's ironic? Correcting someone on the use of the word irony and being wrong. "Situational irony entails a certain incongruity between what a person says, believes, or does and how, unbeknownst to that person, things actually are."
http://grammar.about.com/od/tz/g/situationalironyterm.htm
Also to quote something from your link: "The essential feature of irony is the indirect presentation of a contradiction between an action or expression and the context in which it occurs."
And lastly, Congratulations to Naniwa, finally a seed put to good use!

I believe it's a maturity thing, being able to see the difference between insignificant acts of bad manner and what actually matters. While I don't condone flaming or hating, It doesn't matter to me. The things that actually did matter, like the probe-rush, is something he has been regretful of and has apologized for, I don't see why I should hold that against him, especially since I never minded in the first place. Also he is a funny guy, proved on Huks stream, TL Attack with Thorzain etc.
The people that goes ballistic over BM and still is a Naniwa-fan can speak for themselves.

I fear that this could be the season of the protoss
I hope for a terran to end this nightmare! I'm placing my hopes on MKP!

Naniwa seemed more self deprecating than humble, and I get he's trying to win over Korean fans but it seems strange. What happened to the only goal being a championship?

Hahahaha, somewhere MKP is staring at his screen in shock.
I really hope MVP gets better soon, he's just a pleasure to watch when he's not bothered by his health problems.

Really glad that MVP advanced but I want him to get better first. Hope he recovers soon because I would hate to see him not able to play due to his injury. Glad that Naniwa advanced but would have loved to see Puzzle advanced rather than Naniwa.

Glad that Naniwa isn't cocky and respects himself and the koreans enough to admit that he'd be easily beaten by higher level koreans.

Such a different naniwa from just a year ago. He is learning so much and I am sure he will do just fine in the near future. I have waited for him to succeed in Code S for more than a year now, and today was such a relief.
Your rewriting history/dont know what your talking about. Naniwa also througth (1 year ago) koreans were much better.

MVP and Nani fighting !!!

You can say whatever you want about stats but fact is Naniwa got first in a group of solid Code S players with Puzzle, MVP and Ryung, which is not something many people would be able to do.

Really like Naniwa's responses. Seems much more mature than what I'd seen and heard previously.
Extremely happy to hear Mvp might have a clue about what is going on with his health. Hopefully he can get it fixed and back into form.

why people say mvp was in a slump??? last gsl season he went to ro16 and in his 2nd group went 1-2. Losing to semifinalist of GSL, and almost finalist gumiho. Reminds me when people say to nestea that he is in a slump, and nestea saying that he thinks he is not in a slump.

He played well today so he justified it I guess. As you said it's not his fault, and if he choose not to accept the seed GOM would give it to another foreigner anyway. So why decline? ^_^ Decline it so Stephano can get it I'm pretty sure the reason Stephano didn't get it was because he wouldn't go to Korea anyway. I thought he' s stated that he doesn't want to go to Korea when he can make more money abroad.
Stephano would probably be the first and only foreigner to win a GSL.

Still this interview he answered nicely and you can only admit he's playing great. Maybe one day i will cheer for him but not yet. Also, i really liked both interviews. Hopefully Mvp will recover in the future. He also remains professional when representing his team at major events, which is respectable. Do you mean the "fuck off" to Huk after the Hallu VRs incident? Or the flinging the headphones down and breaking a key off his keyboard? Or the 6pools vs aLive? Or the constant, constant balance whine? Or the refusal to shake hands with Cruncher? Or the vulgar gesture to MC at MLG Columbus last year, in front of a whole crowd? _____________________ Anyway, glad to see that MVP is back - he might not be the best any more, but he could become a contender. Good luck with the disks!
I couldn't disagree more. In an interview with someone, IdrA clearly stated that he just likes to play along with all the shit talking. Just friendly shit talking.

That doesn't make what IdrA does professional though (since we are talking about professionalism here). I mean, if I shout, "Fuck you!" across the room even jokingly at, say, one of my coworkers in front of a customer, that'd still be seen as totally unprofessional. Even if it's done in good humor and even if my boss doesn't care, it's still not something I should be doing because it promotes a bad image of my company.

Do you see what he wrote on TL last week that got him temp banned? did you know IdrA banned like 3-5 times on TL.(not temp) Summary: I don't like naniwa because the way he acts. IdrA isn't nearly as bad as naniwa in my opinion. Still don't like idra, either. Can you give some examples if this bad behavior? The only 'BM' thing I can think of is the probe rush but that has been talked to death already and I don't think it was a big deal.
To be fair it is incredibly difficult not to just burst with anger at the average now-it-all bronze leaguers.

The customer would probably be smart enough to know that you are joking. That will make him or her laugh, which will make you funny, thus bring in more customers. Customers have money.

True, makes me wonder what to consider slump for each player
Although i dont think losing to semifinalist of gsl is a slump
Its like Nestea knocking Mvp out of tournament and saying yeah, Mvp is slumping...

I highly doubt stephano could win a GSL. He's good but not that good.
On topic congratulations to naniwa, was really surprised to see he made it out of his group, let alone first. Very well done ^^.

Cervical disc? That's the neck, right? (at first I thought cervix lol)
Seems a bit odd that two progamers would both have neurological problems like that.

well if you sit infront of a computer all day with bad posture thats what happens. i know because i had/have terrible posture when sitting at the computer and my wrist started hurting like a bitch. sitting properly now but wrist still hurts.

Your goal this season?
"First, it’s to get to ro8 so that I get to stay in Code S. Once I achieve this, I will set a new higher goal."
Such a great mindset, seems rare now that I think about it.

Look at those 2 handsome men. Naniwa and MVP are among my top 3 players to root for in the foreign scene and Korean scene, respectively so waking up to this result made my day.
