NEW IN-GAME CHANNEL: FRB |
As promised last 2 days I worked very hard on this map. Map name: Korhal Augustgrad District 666 Here is the map: Korhal Augustgrad District 666 image It is published in EU. It is alot basic no fancy graphics or anything. I experimented alot so we can more easy gather data how different combinations can work out. There may be some bugs.

That has a lot to do with why it is so long Lots of people correcting each other, I love seeing that. Again I don't want to miss anyone's concerns, and I'm still workin on 30 pages and counting of posts to reply to lool. Right this moment I do want to address one thing though: --- I have put my heart into this, as I truly feel it is worth it. Over a decade experience of various gaming at many levels (explained here lol), and hundreds of hours of thinking, researching, debating, writing, and rewriting has gone into this. If you think the idea in the OP is foolish, then please disregard anything I have ever posted or will ever post on TL. But I really don't want you to take my word for it. The proof is in the pudding - and it will inevitably be self-evident. I have resolved to help it every step of the way. Many many people have told me they love playing the 7m/6m maps, and there's a real mini-community here. I couldn't be happier. There's lots of things that can happen with this, and I intend to make sure the best of it does happen. 6m/7m isn't going anywhere! Expect more! Well, the community response has been overwhelmingly positive so far, so good for you. My own suggestion: Keep an eye on the mineral and gas cost of expansions, tech structures and research options, with an eye to possibly bring them down. Unit upgrades should also be in the same sack, but a lot of them are so efficient right now that they could stand to become "more expensive" for what they do IMO.

Giant wall of amazingly good text... I love it bro good job. Its an amazing way to help us get alittle closer to what the game should feel like.. instead of what it currently is.
|
I read the whole thing, and as someone who has been playing broodwar recently, (because my gaming pc isn't with me at uni, so i can't play sc2) and remembering how awesome it was, i really REALLY hope this catches on, i promise that once it is posted on the EU server, and i am back at home, i will be forever in the channel looking for games to promote the maps!
Really nice job barrin.

Master level PvT on Entombed with 7M 2G.

Seems pretty standard except the lack of minerals makes Protoss more inclined to go for Templar tech. Still not sure how this is going to shut down deathball styles.

Try the 6 mineral map it makes a huge difference

Even so, the only thing it seems to do is making the assembling of the deathball take more time. Not create this kind of spread out gameplay the original post seems to hint at.

I just played on the 6m1hyg Devolution map, and it is awesome!

Haven't gotten to play yet but I feel like playing tvp will be WAY better late game. The mineral dump in 3/3 chargelots is one of those factors that makes you feel like you are climbing uphill, when t relies on gas units late. Maybe even viable biomech play?
Same with stephano/lingfeator styles that rely on surplus mins and maxing on lings early. Will force z to spread further and actually be vulnerable to drops.
Mid master terran. Gunna play a bit over the next few days.

Just watched Demuslim vs Bling game 1 from Lone Star. There were no engagements of significance until the 19:00 minute mark (in game). Seemed closer to baceball then BW. This is not exciting. I must disagree with the casters, this was not an "awesome tvp."
There is some disagreement whether this 6/7m idea would work, and rightly so. However it seems we are all agreeing something needs to change.

There is some disagreement whether this 6/7m idea would work, and rightly so. However it seems we are all agreeing something needs to change. Watch Sage vs Yoda and Happy vs San from last night's GSTL (or don't actually). It's the same damn thing, even amongst top pros. TvP is a horrible turtle fest =/ I really don't like watching it lately...I'm at the point where I just prefer to see the Terran do some 1 base all-in. I've made like 3 posts on the subject in last 24 hours but as a big sc2 fan and spectator it's really starting to wear on me. If 6m 1/2gas could fix this somehow I would be so damn grateful.

We realy need more people currently in EU channel 7m has only 5-6 people...

The fact that it takes more time and bases is the whole point of the change... The changes doesn't force spread out engagements, the change provides more opportunities to spread out and engage.

Can't wait to try out these maps! I really hope a large figure in the community embraces the experiment and has a high level tournament and gauge reception there

Would someone please post a video of a game played or two played on a 6m 1g or 6m 2g map? I can't get to a computer with sc2 for a few days and would love to see how games play out on these kind of maps.
That said, to the person who said this map change will just result in a slower tech to deathball, I do think that it is going to take some time for the community to understand how they can play differently on this new map style.

So what's the general consensus now that this thread is a few days old?
From what I've seen in my own experiments with the 6m2g map the OP made for this thread, it doesn't really pan out and all the "great idea!" posts were largely unfounded. You just end up with more, quickly over saturated bases, but the actual games play out largely the same.

I read a bit but couldn't find the channel name, I wanna play the maps a bit. Someone please tell me the channel name.

I'm pretty sure most people are simply playing the way they're used to play. It's hard to shift your gameplay paradigm with a flick of the fingers.

All this 7/6m stuff leads to is current SC2 on a smaller scale (from my experience). Not exactly my idea of improving the game.
