If any of you guys watched the episode of State of the Game where they asked stephano about it, he explains that he was just trash talking naniwa, and that he never intended to play for 5 grand but was just trolling naniwa.

Well bad way of trashtalking, Naniwa calls him out for showmatch, Stephano tries to bluff his way out of it. Naniwa accepts and Stephano looks like a coward now

ps. not that i would've done it, but if i would make a bet or challenge i make it within propertions and man up

Naniwa is such a boss sometimes

from 30:35 approx

He says he think they will play a showmatch, but that the 5k each thing was just him talking trash and that he didn't want to put that much up

10k show match is ridiculous, Stephano would have been nuts to accept it. He didn't chicken out he just has a brain. With 10k you can run a nice little tourney with more players and more games. A show match with a better prize pool is just as good. : )

lol?

This is exactly the kind of crap I was talking about, some people are just blind and can't call things how they really are but rather how they want to see it. Stephano was the one that wanted the match to be $5000 each in the first place. He obviously made the proposal thinking that Naniwa would back down right then and there, but when Naniwa said he was cool with it (and he has said that and offered to play the match MANY times now) Stephano immediately backed down.

It is what we call a dodge. A very blatant and sad dodge.

Oh then my bad..

Well I'm guessing (though I don't know for sure) that Stephano was joking? Silly stephano... he's still right to dodge, sad as that is. I'd rather look like a dodger and not risk 5 grand (in a semi-broken mu xD). But yeah my bad about not being a bit more aware of what really happened.

To be clear though, the show match itself is what I find ridiculous, 10k is too much even between two Bonjwa caliber players (no one in the SC2 scene is bonwja yet btw).

Why would you say it is semi-broken? From your post I assume you are trying to say Protoss is favored?

Then why does Stephano say that protoss needs a buff to compete with zerg (though I personally do not agree with him and I do not believe he is in the position to say that)? Also DRG, the best zerg in the world, says that zerg is currently the strongest race (though he probably wouldn't say the same thing after getting manhandled by MKP and his Terran filled Code S group).

My point being that Stephano obviously feels extremely confident (or cocky rather, though I do not know his feelings after losing to Inori) in the match-up so I do not see why he would worry about losing so badly. From everything he has said in the past one would assume that Stephano thinks he would destroy Naniwa and that he would definitely be willing to try his hand at taking $5000 from him. Obviously as we have seen now though, this is not the case. The fans want it, Naniwa wants it, but Stephano does not, just strange and quite lame really.

Also I should add that Stephano definitely didn't look like he was joking when he offered to play for $5000. Naniwa offered to play for $500 each at first after Stephano initially called him out on twitter, and so Stephano said that that was too low and that they should each put $5000 on the table. Naniwa accepted, so Stephano dodged.

I don't know why Stephano or DRG say what they do, in my personal opinion the match up has some flaws (Z can get map control hardcore with Muta for example, 2 base all-ins a tad too strong for P, etc).

If Stephano doesn't want to play a show match vs Naniwa for 5k$, it might be lame because he dodged, but it's probably a smart way to not lose 5k$. He dodged, it's lame, yeah. I'd rather be called lame and then have everyone forget about the whole thing because I'm the best foreign zerg than risk 5k$. Now I'm not trying to defend what Stephano said or anything, dodging sucks yeah.

Now, unrelated to what either Stephano, Naniwa, DRG, or anyone else for that matter, my personal opinion (ie MINE) is that 10k$ is too large a sum for a given show match, even between 2 BW Bonjwas. 10k$ is probably better spent on a nice little tourney with more than just one single match. That is all.

This was players better their own money.

Personally, Stephano shouldn't have gone into the kitchen if he couldn't stand the heat. That being said, to those saying "the money could be spent better" it is the gamer's money, let them do with it as they will.

Stephano, don't be a scrub and back down, just beat Naniwa and take his $5k, its not like ZvP is hard for you.
Got that.

From the OP (I'm neutral as I don't like either player) it looks like this - Stephano calls Naniwa out - Naniwa wants to bet 500 for a showmatch. From my viewpoint, Stephano is scared and bluffs by upping it to 5000 and Naniwa calls him on it (we have the evidence that Naniwa is going to accept a 5000 bet for the whole world to see). Stephano should now walk the talk by accepting it.

Looks like I was right!

The games never got played because Stephano dodged the whole thing.

Naniwa came out as the winner in the sense of not backing down when agreeing to a bet proposed by Stephano, when Stephano was talking trash (or perhaps Stephano came out as the scaredy-cat by going back on his big talk... or both), not as the winner and loser in actual games.

If I called my friend a pussy over and over for not doing something and talked a lot of shit about how scared he was and he goes ahead and does that thing I would certainly feel like I had to do the thing I challenged him to do.
Proposing a bet, calling someone out for not accepting and, as soon as they do accept, say that you were totally joking is low. Stephano was the one who started the name calling and the calling out but he won't follow through. I think a lot of people (including the guy you quoted) have lost respect for him here.
TL Mafia. Love it. Play it. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/index.php?show_part=31 I find Kennigit really attractive. If anyone has a picture of him please feel free to PM it to me.

On twitter, with thousands of followers, as a pro gamer...
No still not compelled.

BUT we can all safely conclude that:

a. Stephano is a pussy.
b. Naniwa is Stephano's boss.

that is until such time as a show match goes ahead with significant sums of money put down from either side (say... I dunno... $500?) and Stephano wins.

Thems are the facts people.

But he is never making short-term prediction, everyone of his prediction are based on fundenmentals, but he doesn't exactly know when it will happen... So using these kind of narrowed "who-is-right" empirical analysis makes little sense.
