Update: FXOBoSs clarifies the situation with "new" FXO:

Original post:
Today it was announced that team imba.FXOpen (BRAT_OK, Strelok, HappyZerG, LoWeLy and others) is now reformed as team FXO. Did you previously confuse imba.FXOpen with FXO? Now prepare to confuse Russian FXO with Malaysian/Korean FXO!
At the same time a few members of imba.FXOpen reformed old Guild of Imbalance in its old pre-sponsored way: as a friendly amateur clan.
Players of FXO:
FXO.BRAT_OK FXO.Strelok FXO.HappyZerG FXO.Elbegast FXO.LoWeLy
...and others (see team profile on goodgame.ru -- click on "StarCraft II" section to see a list of players)
Players of Guild of Imbalance:
imba.Adolf[RA] imba.vindikat imba.Couguar imba.onelastgoodbye imba.dSKe
...and 8 (!) female players. See full team profile on goodgame.ru
Sources (in Russian): sc2tv.ru, goodgame.ru
Now a little bit of history. Guild of Imbalance dates back to Broodwar. Back in 2008 this team created the site sc2tv.ru, which became one of the biggest Russian StarCraft/eSports sites, with daily news, streams and articles. After SC2 came out, Russian branch of FXOpen (not to be confused with "big" FXOpen) started to sponsor sc2tv.ru and Guild of Imbalance. Clan Imba started to turn into professinal team: they changed their clantag to imba.FXOpen and eventually signed a few famous Russian and Ukrainian players, as well as some promising up-and-comers.
Sc2tv.ru hosted a few tournaments, including the biggest Russian team league -- RPL. First season of RPL took place back in BW days, and there were 3 more seasons in StarCraft 2 (also RPL 4 was sponsored by HP). Most people consider sc2tv.ru and goodgame.ru as the biggest "rival" sites, when it comes to covering SC2 in Russian.
It seems like eventually some conflicts aroused between FXOpen and old Imba team. This lead to sc2tv.ru no longer being sponsored by FXOpen for a few months now. Today's announcement brings the logical end to the partnership of "old school" Guild of Imbalance and FXOpen Russia.
I am not entirely sure if the tag FXO is temporary. It obviously seems wrong for two different FXO teams to exist. And I think FXOBoSs will be against it :D

Makes sense. I haven't heard about the protoss player, lowely is ok, but BratOK, Strelok, and happyzerg are sick players

|
I like how the '8 female players' are all lumped together as an afterthought
|
I doubt that it'll be a different team. Its just like when they bought fou. Now the fxo family has grown.
I saw a lot of great stuff out of slivko (happyzerg) and if he spends any time with leenock hes going to wreck the eu scene like no one else. I'm talking 4 base to 2 base zvp levels of crazy, oh wait both of the extra 2 base's are gold base's.

So is it now FXO Russia and FXO Korea? Or is it the same team? Is there going to be any interteam training or what? (I would especially love to see any of these players hone their skills in Korea) Will they function as one team for team leagues?
|
On March 03 2012 08:39 lit0st wrote: I like how the '8 female players' are all lumped together as an afterthought There is a series on sc2tv.ru "Escape from the Bronze", where a bronze-platinum level female player is coached by master level player. Some of the episodes featured Brat_ok and HappyZerg as coaches. Most of new Imba female team comes from this series.
Packawana, I am as confused as you are. But they always were separate teams with separate management, so my guess is they will stay as separate teams
|
Wow the level of confusion in this is crazy.
|
Hah I love how FXO took every player worth a damn from imba. I never understood how this was a good investment from FXO, but oh well.
|
Maybe they felt the relationship was imbalanced.

imba adolf ? Please tell me I am not the only one who finds this ... strange, at best. Its IMBALANCED ADOLF. Come on. For real

Today it was announced

I'll try to wake someone up and get some clarification for you guys hang on

Why don't they just merge the teams together? Couldn't you save overhead costs that way and avoid confusion? I would love to see guys like Strelok, Brat_OK, Lowely training with the FXO Koreans and getting better.
|
I don't get a thing out of it either :D They part ways but their players go to fxo ? What?

I believe that the implication here plus knowledge of this before it developed is as follows. Please keep in mind I'm not a spokesperson here so this might not be 100% accurate:
Okay so as it was tried to be explained in the OP:
-the FXOpen you guys all associate with the Korean team, and the foreigner team was never fully associated with the guild of imbalance. -The imba.FXOpen partnership was instead done through the Russian branch of the company, and management separate from FXOBoSs and FXOUnstable. -There apparently have been issues... and now imba is splitting from the Russian FXOpen branch, but the top players are staying. -And this is where it gets confusing, because they have now re-labelled themselves "FXO" even though they are still not affiliated with the Korean team, and the few remaining foreigners we have on our side of FXOpen esports. -So there are now two teams calling themselves "FXO" who are completely separate entities...
I am so confused right now, and I'm literally the only person from our side of FXOpen esports awake right now... great

Dear god, my brain. But congratulations, hope it helps your business.
|
Perhaps we'll see FXOru?
Keeping the same tag seems like it'd be to confusing, but at the same time merging the two probably wouldn't be ideal.
|
So instead of imba.FXO and FXO as two teams under separate management, we now have teams imba, FXO and FXO all managed separately?
This is really confusing.
|
Doesn't really seem like such a big deal to me... I mean, Ok, the imba guys weren't happy and have split... But if FXO Russia is still sponsoring the rest of the players, it'd sort of make sense to just incorporate them? Or not.. and have FXO.(playername).RU or something?
|

imba isn't a pro team so you don't have to worry about that anymore.
I'm surprised the relationship hasn't had an issue before ie in a team league. it shouldn't be too hard to tell the euros apart from the Koreans/foreigner that where the original fxo apart.
I'm sure this is going to be the lowest intensity esports drama of the year though.

He's being sarcastic because the announcement itself is confusing, your English was fine. The announcement itself is just very strange.

Interesting situation. Thanks for the background, really helps to sort things out.
gl to FXO.RU/imba in their plans

Well I think I understand, they should just call the russian team FXOru like Postman said. They are russians and it would easily help people when they want to talk about one of the team.

Either the russian FXO and the main FXO teams merge or the Russian FXO branch team changes their team tag.

The only logical conclusion now is to resurrect the old fOu brand for the FXO branch that we all known and love.

Why split ways? i'm very confused by this idea that teams do better on their own, huge conglomerates do better it seems like. Like Quanti-startales and QIM.
|
Ok now we need the new FXO to partner with IM so that we can have fouFXO and IMFXO. This mess sounds fun.

The whole imba.FXO and regular FXO always confused me.
I wish you guys would rebrand both teams. FXO-RU and FXO-KR.
|
The korean team should be able to keep FXO as their tag. I feel the russian based team needs a different tag.
|
Obvious solutions:
1. Merge them. 2. RFXO and KFXO 3. FXO and make the Korean one fOu again, since none of the original FXO guys remain except like Slog.

Team Razor is kind of like TEAM U.S.A.
They are both everyone and no one at the same time, and you really only here about them when something good happens to a member of Team Razor.
Team FXO is more like an Octupus of ESPORTS. Technically its one team, but for legal and physical reasons it is functionally split into seperate "arms" that connect to single point. In this regard, FXO gains the ability to lose an arm to fend off predators (drama, legal action, associations of a dubious nature, etc.) and then regrow it under new name. Also, if they are scared, they can shoot ink and escape into the murky depths.
|
Wouldn't it benefit both sides to merge, since the European players might want to train in KR and the Korean players might want to attend tournaments in EU? Seems like it would be better for one team to have an international presence rather than splitting your team up into segments based on region. Even if it's a little bit messy logistically, since you probably have separate staffs, I hope that a merger is possible because I think that's what would be best for the players.
Did anyone else see that thread Strelok made, asking what's different about Korean Terrans and why they are so successful in the GSL? I think it would be awesome if he had more of an opportunity to learn the difference in person.
|
Confusing.... never heard of this partnership with a russian team.
But hey it makes sense... there is no FXO russia team. Only FXOpen korean and foreign.

I guess what it comes down to is how FXO manages their worldwide sponsorships. So far it seems the various FXO branches in different countries are doing their own thing and there is no central approach on the worldwide corporate level.

FXO should just merge with the other FXO :B

isnt FXO sponsors both of them (service i mean). Because on Strelok stream (btw check it out :D) he has FXO logos.

the korean team can be FXO-GirlsGirlsGirls and the european team can be FXO-LightningTigers imo

Well if its 2 different branches of fxo and 2 diff teams they should just call one fxo.ru and the other fxo. Its not that uncommon for bigger players to have 2 teams in a competition who are run with different management and sometimes different sponsors even.

2 FXO??? So they won't be merging the two teams even though they're from the same company and have the same name?
|
Dear E-Sports community
I am going to formally address this once and for all.
First of all, what people are already calling FXO-RU and FXO-KR, is actually just FXO. That is, the teams are now officially 1 team. However due to geographical issues and langauge issues, the Eastern side of the business will be completely run by me, and another one of our staff, Vladimir, will be running the Western side of the business.
Players such as strelok and bratok will have opportunities to compete in Korea with FXO, and we will be working on joint sponsorships for both sides.
All in all, it is now officially the same team, but with extra managers.
I hope this clarifies things for everyone. If it doesn't please feel free to ask your questions here.
Regards,
FXOBoSs

Thanks for the clarification Boss. I'm actually really happy to see that they are now 1 team. Separate management makes sense though.
I really hope to see Strelok go to Korea!
