What happened?

You realize this showmatch happened when he just got to Korea, right?

Christ, really one guy posts it and the 40 pages afterwards everybody tries to get rid of this inaccurate statement.

The game of tonight was 3 days old.

No it wasn't.

The matched were played very very recently, this should end this.

Glad I didn't bother staying up for this. I was expecting it to at least be competitive.

What a terrible quantification of "top foreigner level". Idra, Naniwa, Huk, and Sase have all had their ups and downs. Sase hasn't shown nearly the amount of results Idra has. Naniwa didn't win a single game at Blizzard Cup and for most of 2011 didn't show any results. HuK also had his up and down moments. Stephano has been fairly consistent. You completely omitted Thorzain.

Idra currently isn't performing as well as he's capable of. He fell out of Code S and lost this showmatch, all in the span of a short period of time. But when he's in form he's easily a top foreigner. If you're truly capable of seeing past the "massive hype machine" as you seem to be implying that you can, you'd realize this.

The fuck? Nani has been one of the most consistent foreigners outside of GSL.
TSL3, all MLGs + invitational, Blizzcon, both Homestory cups

I agree that Idra is overrated. People only see the good macro/mechanic player in him, but don't recognize that he is too vulnerable in the early game and too predictable because of this. So his losses are downtalked.

If you look at Idras win percentage or better his ELO rankings (sc2charts.net has a more accurate than TL), Idra was seldomly among the top5 foreigners throughout the year.

at least idra has earned and played in a code s.

I think it is time for Idra to start learning new builds, his style looked ridicoulously weak agaisnt what Taeja was doing, and it was not greedyness or cheese that put Taeja a head but rather simply outsmarting his opponent completely. It is a shame because the muta/ling/baneling style creates some really intresting games.

Yeah muta/ling/bane makes for the best games to watch, but I'm starting to feel like with a few thors and some marine splitting it's almost impossible for the Z to win with that comp. I think idra needs to start incorporating earlier hive or at least earlier infestors to his muta/ling/bane.

it was extremely disappointing to watch idra lose like that, as always, but this time he lost 3 games of pure macro played out without any special opening harassment/cheesing. taeja's macro and mechanics were just too much for idra to handle and it was scary to behold. most of the time taeja kept the pace with the worker count, sometimes led, and almost never dropped too much with the food count. he just outplayed idra in his own game.

i was a big fan of idra up until the recent slump. actually, i still am, because i love his style and i believe in what he's capable of. i just wish he would show some good results sometime soon.

so i watched the vods against my better judgement and sigh. idra rage quit, a lot. he rage quit with army supplies at something like 176 to 182 at one point.

as a related question, why get banelings against marines? it seems like marines hard counter banelings and infestors would be an overwhelmingly better choice.

obligatory im not in masters league comment. in fact i dont even play sc2. i just watch it. a lot. but it has been bugging me for a while. banelings are not a useless unit, just not useful for countering microed marines with stim. so why constantly get something that is hard countered into the ground by microed marines?

didn't really see anyone actually posting the link; here are the vods, they are quite painful to watch though. reminds me of the desrow-revival series

I remember the first time I read that thread. haha

There's no denial that Korean players right now have Starcraft 2 on lockdown, but when you read some of the live report threads you still see the same dumb posts. "OMG HE WON WITH CHEESE (instant 1 rating for recommended watch)

Perfect example was the Supernova vs MC game. I'm not going to spoil it even though it's old, but one of the players won with foxy/clever/sneaky whatever you want to call it "cheese" build, but it was so smart and planned out that you can't even be mad at the winner. Who is to say that the winner has to win a macro game every game to show his "honor".

When MMA did a thor rush against Naniwa, is it MMA's fault that the Blizzard tourny was a Bo1 format? NOPE! He capitalized on the fact that he could catch Naniwa by surprise and win the game. Or when MVP did a 3 rax scv all in (bit-by-bit style) Does that make him a cheesy newbie? Anybody that even has a 1% knowledge of SC2 knows that MVP is a godly player.

There's a reason why Korean pro gamers are so got damn good. They eat and breathe this game. SC2 is their life. They know all the builds. They know what works, what doesn't work, they know the timings down to milliseconds. Back in brood war there wasn't even a damn in game timer. So imagine MVP now that he can actually look over and say "Oh look it's now 6:30, time to go kill my opponent."

I'm not surprised when a non Korean player gets crushed by a Korean player. There's no excuses. It shows in a lot of the Korean progamers tournament games. I know I sound like I'm being a Korean progamer groupie, but results and VODs don't lie. So from Brood War to Starcraft 2 the same thing is happening. In Brood War, basically Terran looks like they don't have a skill cap... look at Flash. Now look at players like MMA and MVP for Starcraft 2. Same thing... the race just gets better and better.

I don't think people should blame IdrA saying "oh he sucks or I'm not going to be his fan anymore". If you seriously think that way maybe you should look in the mirror and ask yourself if you are on a bandwagon or if you are a true fan. Slayers Taeja isn't a no named player. He didn't qualify for Code A and Code S for nothing. Idra's fan club page should be constructive posts like "I'm behind you and I know you'll show better games in the future" but when you go to his page it's usually small posts like "IdrA just got swept" "Go back to the US" and other dumb posts where people get banned and you have to have a disclaimer on the top of the post letting people know that they will get banned if they bring IdrA hate into the thread. It shouldn't get to that level... we should be supporting one another. If all we do is ridicule the non Korean players how are we going to advance.

I put the post in spoilers since it seems like a long rant. Hopefully some of if it makes sense.

the amount of micro required to make marines hard counter baneling is insane, to match that zerg has to flank and micro aswell.
