[GSL Finals] Leenock- Jjakji, who is your main practice partner?
+ Show Spoiler + All great winners have great practice partner. On December 3rd at the Sejong University, the Sony Ericson GSL Season 7 Code S Finals will be held between the “Strong Heart” Leenock and “Phantom Terran” Jjakji. A lot of people are currently wondering “Who’s their practice partner?” Finals are always unpredictable. The players must not only play well, but also fight against their nerve-wrecking sensations. In order to be able to fight through this and win, one must practice a lot and have confidence in their game play. In order to achieve that, one must have a really good practice partner. Finding a practice partner requires a lot of considerations. Practicing with someone outside of the team is great in the sense that it is more realistic since your practice partner does not know your play style as well as your teammates. Unfortunately, the very same benefit is also a risk since you have the risk of exposing your strategies. But, practicing with your own teammate is also a problem since you’re used to the player. There must be a good balance between these finalists practicing with their teammates and players from outside of the team. It is a hard decision that the two players must make: Practice with someone outside of the team or practice with a teammate? We can see that Leenock and Jjakji has decided to take a separate path with their practice partner. On November 30th, we were able to find out a little bit about the practice plans. The coach of NS Hoseo, Coach Park, has made an interesting decision for Jjakji where Coach Lee stated that “Once coLMVP DongRaeGu (DRG) successfully passes through the Code A Round 2, it would be great if Jjakji can practice with him. I plan to request coLMVP DRG to help Jjakji prepare for the finals.” coLMVP DRG is known for being the best Zerg player against Terran. In a ZvT match-up, one can rank view DRG as being as good as QIM Nestea. Coach Park is very close with the coach of MVP, Coach Choi Yoon Sang, and Coach Park hopes to be able to help Jjakji practice with the best Zerg to prepare for the Final. On the other hand, Coach Lee of the FXO has decided that practicing with the teammate is the best. Coach Lee states “We plan to help Leenock by practicing within the team. Leenock wants to practice with GanZi (SlayerS), but he has a match against one of our player. Therefore it’s going to be hard to make it happen. Leenock’s good friends coLMVP sC and coLMVP Keen has expressed that they’re willing to help, but we have decided to make it an internal team practice in order to prevent the exposure of Leenock’s strategies. [GSL Finals] Who will be the youngest man to win the GSL? A man born in the year 1994? Or 1995?
+ Show Spoiler +Lee " Leenock" Dong Nyung (16 years old) or Jung " Jjakji" Ji Hoon (17 years old) ![[image loading]](http://file.thisisgame.com/board/files/0/img/20111201152421_1cd38c7a.jpg) Who will be the youngest man to win the GSL? A man born in the year 1994? Or 1995? On December 3rd, at the Sejong University, the Sony Ericson GSL Season 7 Code S Finals will be held between Leenock (FXO) and Jjakjk (New Star Hoseo). Despite their young age, they were able to make it to the finals through their consistent and calm play. The GSL Final between these two young players is bringing a lot of attention from the fans. Whoever wins this will become the youngest player to win the GSL. Jjakji is currently 17 years old and Leenock is 16 years old. Currently, the youngest player to ever win the GSL is oGs. MC (born in 1991) in Open Season 3. Jjakji and Leenock are definitely way younger than MC. Therefore they both have the chance at becoming the youngest player to win the GSL. In fact, people are comparing Leenock with the “Ultimate Weapon” Flash (KT), who have won the Starleague at the age of 15. During the 10 years history of E-sports, there’s one thing that these really young top players share in common: Consistency and becoming even more powerful. Leenock and Jjakji both have the skills and the guts to become the top (aka “bonjwa”) player. Jjakji and Leenock have illustrated their strong desire for becoming the youngest player to win the GSL Title. Jjakji has stated that “Because Leenock is younger than me, I did not know much about the whole concept of becoming the youngest player to win the GSL, but now I know about it and I want it. If I manage to win the title, I think such record will stay around for a long time. After winning the GSL Title, I plan to try and win other titles too. “ Leenock has also stated that “Becoming the youngest player to win something is a very record to get. If I manage to win the GSL title, I think this record will remain forever. This is my chance!.” Original Article
[GSL Finals] Leenock-Jjakji were asked to predict the final score. + Show Spoiler +This match-up is predicted to be very competitive. ![[image loading]](http://file.thisisgame.com/board/files/0/img/20111201152901_d54206ba.jpg) Both players expressed their strong desire to win. Both players were asked to predict the final score. Both answered 4:2. But with different end result. This match-up is looking like it will not end one-sided. Leenock (FXO) and Jjakji (New Star Hoseo) will be playing the Sony Ericson GSL Season 7 Code S finals on the 3rd of December. Both players were asked to predict the final score. Both predicted 4:2. Of course their prediction of the end result was different. When we asked Leenock about the match-up, he responded “My opponent is doing pretty well right now and it wont be an easy win for me. I’ll have to play very safely, but I predict the final score to be 4:2.” When we asked Jjakji, he responded “Whether I win or not, it’s not going to be easy. If I do win, I think I’ll probably win 4:2.” In the past, the GSL finals tended to be one-sided. This year, both players do not have any experience with the GSL title and are both very young. Therefore the games are predicted to be very intense. In fact, we can see how competitive the matches have been for these two players. Both players won barely 3:2 in the full set matchup in the Round of 4. Also since this is their first time playing at a big stage, there is a high chance of a small mistake from these two players. If that’s the case, the final scores may be 4:2, or even 4:3 according to the experts. Original Article

Thanks for the translations, I will be one of the few people rooting for jjakji!

opss nevermind. anyway good luck Leenock!
|
Thanks! Great read. I do think that 4-2 would be the most likely score and either player can take it.
I didn't know that Jjakji was that young, Liquipedia has him at 19.

DRG has got Jjakji's back. Easy win for NSHS!

nice nice. thanks for another great translation.

Oh wow, didn't know Jjakji was only a year older, reminds me what a sick talent he must be =D
Really keen on the finals, I expected both of these guys to be stars of the future, not the present, but I definitely won't complain about that! =D

Interesting decision with DRG to practice against Jjakji. Can anyone familiar with both players tell me if their styles are similar at all?

Unfortunately I do not. =( But according to the article, he was born in 1994

Leenock already had his practice. By beating the strongest tvzer in the world, he's proven he can take on any terran. Jjakji's gonna have to bring some new strats to win.

Not confusing him with Jjob are you? Don't think jjakji has ever been on slayers.

Thanks a lot! I honestly can't see Leenock losing unless Jjakji has leveled up since last we saw him play, though.

have to go for jjakji merely cause leenock beat 2 of my teammates at MLG! gogo terran (whoaaaa did i just say that?)

DRG plays a much more conventional style. Goes for large amounts of mutas almost every single TvZ due to his amazing mutalisk control. Only time I've really seen him do something different is as a snipe against a specific player's style (such as against MMA in MLG). DRG is, arguably, the best ZvTer in the world though, so he will be great practice for Jjakji.
Leenock's style is much more varied, he'll do everything from a roach baneling all-in to just playing 100% standard at an exceptional level. He's a fairly hard opponent to prepare for because of his varied styles.

All DRG needs to do is emulate some of the all ins Leenock can (and probably will) do , which he's more than capable of.
I think you couldn't ask for a better practice partner than DRG for this match. Barring illness, Jjakji sure as shit won't be underprepared, you can guarantee yourself that.
|
kinda weird that leenock will only practice in house, if he could practice with ganzi or the other 2 would be better then just in team but whatever. I want leenock to win but with jjaki playing with DRG most likely might give him an edge. This'll be a good finals I hope

Julyjunior vs. jjakji.
A jillion j's! Jeez!
|
I think practicing with DRG against Leenock is a pretty good choice. We know that Leenock isn't afraid of doing a crazy allin if it fits, but his macro game is extremely solid. Both play a very mutalisk-focused style, so I think it's a good choice.
|
dies anyone know what jijakji's style is for TvZ? I think jikjai will have an advantage in the fact that there's a lot more examples of Leenock's TvZ then of Jijakji's tvz unless im mistaken.

Jjakji reminds me of Boxer during his Brood War days. He loves to do technical and creative builds: fast ghosts, mech against protoss, etc. He's also one of the few players who talks about 'mind games' in his interviews, I believe. I think he is only hindered by his stage-nervousness.

youngest gsl finals ever!
|
All this talk, but in the end 4-0...
I'm not surprised Leenock wanted Ganzi. Ganzi has a very good understanding of the matchup. He doesn't beat MMA or MVP in mechanics but he's got the builds.
The only thing that can knock Leenock out are builds that he never seen before now.
|
Now I want to see a Team Melee of DRG + Jjakji vs Leenock + sC. Winner goes against NesTea + Mvp.
|
I think it'll be leenock, but I hope the finals are fun and not one sided.
|
I don't get the Julyjunior comparisons. The only similarity between Leenock and July are that they're both fat. Leenock is so much better than July in SC2 and can only grow upwards.
|
|
It's weird. I don't want a steamroll, but then again I want Leenock to steamroll him.
I'll be happy either way I guess.

I think Jjakji will take this, have you seen his jacket? Everyone knows Korean play is directly related to the jackets. Leenock doesn't even have a jacket man (BoSs you need to get on that ASAP)

Your post seems uninformed, July and Leenock are both unpredictable players. Leenock has all-inned quite a few times, but when he does it, there is intelligent thought behind it. Ex: When Naniwa consistently fast expanded on every MLG match, Leenock smartly did a 2 base roach timing to counter it. When Leenock goes macro, you can occasionally see hints of the infamous "Sauronzerg" when he knows he has an economical advantage.

Well Leenock is a little pudgy like July in an adorable way and also Leenock isn't afraid to all-in if necessary, or just unpredictable play in general, much like July.
So that is similarities in appearance and then playstyle as well.

Leenock's can utilize good all-ins, but what he's more known for is his solid all-round play. July is mostly known for his extremely aggressive style of play. Prior to the Naniwa matches, his most notable "aggressive" play was 6-pooling Nada.
And I don't recall Leenock every citing July as an inspiration. I could be mistaken. Do you have a source? Not that it matters though, MKP cites Boxer as his inspiration. That doesn't make him a MiniBoxer. A Fake Boxer maybe (kekeke).
And for the record, the only time I hear July and Leenock comparisons are always together with the Gumiho. Where Leenock evolves into Gumiho into July.

I hope for Leenock to win this GSL. So many time he got unlucky and fall right before any victory he could have had. Nonetheless, i'm so sad that mvp lost, he was so obviously the best player and then tried to hard. Leenock became so good this last few months, he's really on fire.

But leenock and flash shouldn't even be in the same sentence. Why not if you are not comparing skill lvls? You are just luring out the trolls when you say stuff like that.

Jjakji is pretty good but leenock looked unbelievable against MVP. Leenock 4-1 IMO

Leenock reminds me of July, both in appearance and playstyle lol.

It wont be long and Leenock will overtake Nestea as the best zerg.

The meh finals, first finals I probably won't watch, I feel leenock is somewhat more lucky that skilled, we'll see the next few seasons, I wouldn't be supervised to see him in code a in the newer future.
Also, who is jakji? I doubt we'll ever hear about him again.

Leenock is Code S material man, you're living in a delusional world.

Hopefully all the new blood leads to some great matches!

Leenock is Code S material man, you're living in a delusional world. Jjakji is a victim of the GomTvT phase, just like asd, Virus, Noblesse and a couple of others. It's just that with so many Terrans with no prior market power coming in, it was hard to see which one was better than the others. It was pretty clear that some of them were really good (asd, and occasionally Virus).
Jjakji though seems to have risen above them and would really benefit from a boost in his name power, and from what I see he's pretty solid and has really smart builds. Hope he keeps up his performance though. We don't wanna see another TOP or Inca.

I always find practice partner politics interesting . Thanks!

He's so good and he never gets fan support T_T Except from me, because TSL is team of the year, all years.

Jesus... Leenock is about to make close to a 100,000 USD ... well I'm guessing around $75000 taking off taxes...

I am fairly sure that leenock is going to destroy jjakji. Then again, jjakji does do special builds that could get him some wins. But after seeing what leenock did to the best terran in the world, I'm gonna call 3-1 for him.

Only lucky people beat MVP in a Bo5, right?
Get your ignorance out of here

When doing LBs it was like... yeah this guy won his way here, but is here to stay?
Pretty confident that Jjakji is one of the few who is legit.
And to the other guy... calling Leenock lucky? Please. He's anything but. The only thing about Leenock that is lucky is his team mate.

Wow, get this guy out of here. Hes prolly basing his thoughts on the few GSL games he has seen. Anyone who has half a brain that watched RO4 Leenock vs MVP would not even argue that Leenock deserves this finals and his Code S spot.
I try to just lurk these forums, but that post just got to me...

Nooo DRG don't practice with Jjakji! The GOMTvT era must end D:

Leenock is on fire and I hope he wins.
Then someone make a documentary how the little youngster had a rough start in GSL with unlucky up and down groups got knocked down to code A and eventually out of GSL.
Came back, won biggest MLG followed by GSL.
Leenock FIGHTING!

Pretty sure Jjakji is just Effort under a disguised name playing off-race in SC2.

I seriously hope Jjakji wins, just because Leenock is younger than me and I'd feel shit if someone younger than me wins GSL. ;_;

I didn't know that Jjakji was that young, Liquipedia has him at 19.
Korean ages work differently.

Leenock Lennock! Rise to the thrones of Zerg!

As I said back in July/August, Jjakji was one of the few new commers that I could ever see winning GSL. Rooting for him

I dont care who wins.. I just want great finals, 4:3 gogogogo !!!

Very interesting article, but I have to say it seems not unlikely that Leenock will win in a blowout.

People are stupid.
