I can't believe I'm more hype for the sponsors of the 2012 season. More big name companies coming into esports is always good. | ||

Maybe its not AS competitive as those games, but its still an incredible hard game to master and play at that level. Its also pretty entertaining to watch in the few games I've seen. Not sure why they should just drop it completely. Bringing on a quake or something wouldn't be a bad idea, but no need to kick out halo, just because its on a dreaded console. it's actually pretty simple. halo is no e-sport at all. it is just a game people play for fun as most console games are (excluding fighting games like Tekken and Street Fighter) and it is not competitive. but i won't expand this further as there is no point in debatting this. but i have this to add: if halo is the flagship of console gaming why are there nearly no teams outside of the US? where is the GLOBAL console scene? perhaps because consoles are just limited to gaming but many families have a computer for work anyway? this is especially true in countries where the population is not that rich. and most e-sports games run on really old computers that are affordable. just look at the hardware requirements of BW, quake, CS 1.6. or WC3 (Dota). On December 06 2011 05:34 Ace.Xile wrote: Suggesting dropping console games is so stupid imo. Like sooo many ppl are computer elitist yet fail to realize taht the only way that e sports is going to really take off (yes it's still very small comparatively) is by using the medium through console gamers. Computers in many western countries still have a stigma of nerdyness whereas consoles have broken this stigma, the hands down biggest market of game players are those who are exceptionally casual and are either on things like fb games, phone games, and console games. Trying to grow a playerbase by forcing hardcore gaming reinforced with already prevalent social stigmas is just plain dumb. Computer games, and especially esports, needs console games and the more casual scenes, much more than most people realize because they are the medium most times, between casual gamers and the perceived computer nerds. i hate people arguing with "marketing" things. but first: there is no difference in a "stigmata" of console or PC players. consoles are in fact considered more nerdy in germany at least because well, you can only play on a console while you can also work with a computer. second: i and many others don't give a shit about people playing fb games, phone games or console games. i don't even want those people playing sc2 (or any other game i play competitively) because sc2 is not casual and if they start playing it will become more casual (look at WOW for reference). so i don't agree at all that we "need" console games or casual scenes. if casual people watch e-sports games because they like it it's fine. if they don't because there's no console games in there then who cares? this stupid forced "moar growth" sounds like total business economics logic to me which should not be applied at all to gaming. "forced" growth is not healthy at all and you have to make compensations for those people that will hurt the scene. just let it grow naturally. like it has been since the days of quake in the '90s. unfortunately there are too many people in the scene nowadays that don't know about the growth of e-sports and just think it appeared with sc2. btw: e-sports IS elitist. just like any soccer or basketball player is elitist if he is playing competitive. and i also only picked the "elitist" games, not the dumbed down versions that are maybe played by more people and have better visuals to please the sponsors (CS:Source as an excellent example for both) but are way worse to watch. even DOTA as an e-sport is debattable IMHO (but the scene in asia is BIG).
