I suspect a big starting point for them will be to just look at last year's MLGs and throw a bunch of people in who did reasonably well. Hopefully we'll see some of the players who fought through the open brackets and made it into the first couple rounds of the Championship brackets, but never made it much further. Would be cool to see how they compare without all the fatigue that comes with that.

Of course you would have it in NYC on 02/24-02/26, the one weekend where I will be away for my bachelor party.
I think it's destined for me to never attend an MLG.. sigh.

as always.. confusing as hell.. and I do this for a living.

The Arena event is $10k first place. The championship events for each season will presumably be more.

I hope so, they 5k first place prize at all the MLG's last year was pathetic..... and 10k isn't much better.
I fear, with their recent cost cutting moves, that their talk about 1M+ in prize money for 2012 was just butkus.
I'm disappointed, SC2 need MLG to step up and make being their champion worth something monetarily.
10k, just doesn't cut it for an MLG level tourney.

meh i liked long all day weekend tournaments and prize pools are pretty much the same.

Feels like a decent tournament.
Hopefully they remove the extended series rule while they are changing things up.

I'm excited about the possibilities.

what the heck people? they have very well said that this was info about the stuff BEFORE the live pro-circuit events. this is NOT the prize for the live, spectator-attended event. last year these events didn't exist, and you're already disappointed in MLG? 10k first place for a non-main event is already more than the prize for 1st place of the main event last year, so you know main event prizes have to be higher! Express your disappoint after they announce the prize pool for the live events if it doesn't meet expectations, not before they say anything!

Sorry HuK, but you have no right to ask MLG what they pay them. It's between them and the casters once the contract is signed and there may even be clauses to prevent said information becoming public. If you're really serious about finding out, perhaps you should release your own financial informaton to us? A lot of people would love to know what EG pay you, doesn't mean they ever will//should.

Too bad the regional online qualifiers won't have an open bracket. With the old system relatively unknown players could break through and make a new for themselves, but with the new system this is increasingly unlikely. That is too bad.
Be prepared to see the same old faces over and over.

Be prepared to see the same old faces over and over. The Winter Championship at Colombus appears to have a loser's bracket:
The bottom 16 finishers in the Arena will receive byes into Open Winners Bracket Round 5 at the Winter Championship.

Yeah, I know... They have not even announced the real season yet!
